played this at a local guitar shop and I KICKS ANY FENDER STRATS BUTT!!! they had a deluxe fender strat as well and as far as crunch or my style it didnt even compare. i didnt know about he humbuckers split coil switch so didnt get to try that out. lookin forward to buyin when i have some extra cash
I have been playing one of these for a few years now. I also have the Tribute Legacy in 3-single-coil config when I want a lighter sound. I play blues and funk-rock. Think Bonamassa, Kotzen, Mother's Finest, even Chili Peppers (you know the tune). This guitar slays on all of it. Whenever I don't know what I need for a pickup gig, I take this. There is a quality sound in there somewhere. The bridge bucker is not dark or heavy sounding. It has a nice tonal balance. Not too anything. After a good working over on the setup, I have it pretty good. I'd have to spend a LOT more cash to get close to better. IMHO, this slays any off the shelf HSS strat I've ever layed my hands on. Could be "faster" but would lose its emotion. Mine is natural finish with faux tortoise shell pick guard.
I don't write enough reviews, and since this guitar hasn't got one- i'll be the first to give some feedback (hah) Caveat#1- I did not buy this guitar from MF, I got it secondhand in like new condition. The features are GREAT! G&L Pickups which have beautiful tone, albeit not replica tone off an Amer. Strat- but that's not what your looking for. These pickups sing and howl, and feel great- Now here is the great part, humbucker has a dedicated coil split switch, which adds a whole new dimension for soundscaping, and Gasp, the tone knobs are freaking great, one dedicated to treble, and one just for bass freq, you can get any sound you can think up! All that being said, you still have to deal with the classic hum in mode 1,3,and 4&5 depending on where the coil split switch is. The neck was ehh, but it plays smooth as can be, it just has this strange low quality feel to it that I can't put my finger on. Mine wasn't set up very well, but like I said bought it used, and once I tweaked it, I got just the feel i was looking for. Bottom line, this guitar kills any strat in it's price range easily. Great guitar
