Comments about Gretsch Guitars 9555 New Yorker Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

If all of the New Yorkers sound like this one, Gretsch should pull their name from it. It is made in China, but
nowhere on MF website does it say that. I love Gretsch guitars & the Gretsch sound, but not this one. I returned it for credit

Comments about Gretsch Guitars 9555 New Yorker Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I put my ToneRite G3 on this for a week. The tonewood loosened up and I took it to a jam today with some professional musicians in my area. They all said it sounded like an orchestra guitar from the late 40s and 50s. I love the sound.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars 9555 New Yorker Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Wanting to get into western swing. This guitar has a full bodied sound. The only thing I wish they would have kept were the Grover tuners. Granted the tuners are more authentic to the original instrument. Can't wait to play it through my Fender 212 Front Man although it sounds good acoustic.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars 9555 New Yorker Archtop Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great acoustic sound is complemented by great electric sound. The single-coil pick-up is a little noisy but has a sweet, flute-like tone and drives my Fender Excelsior amp into break-up even at low volume. Fit and finish is excellent and the soft v-shaped neck is comfortable and encourages the placement of my left thumb behind the neck and not gripping the fretboard. I had to raise the bridge a bit on the treble side to let the "e" and "b" strings ring freely. This guitar came with flatwound strings of a fairly heavy gauge and I really like them. I have not played flatwounds before but find that they sound great on this guitar and will continue to use them. I also have a near-mint Gretsch 110EC that I bought a couple of years ago that has a custom fossil ivory bridge and a single humbucking pick-up at the end of the fretboard. I bought the New Yorker on a hunch because I like my 110CE so much and I was not disappointed in the least. These are low-priced Gretsch guitars that deliver real value.
