OVERVIEW

Jazzalicious

Take a ride uptown in style and plug it in! Reminiscent of the early Synchromatics of the 1940s, this archtop acoustic/electric has a spruce top, maple sides and back, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. The G100CE features a Gretsch pickup, separate volume and tone knobs, chromatic tailpiece, aged pearloid block inlays, vintage headstock logo, and compensated bridge. The 40's design is simple and elegant, and you'll be unlikely to find anything like it in the market at this price.

Perfect for the Gretsch player looking for a no-nonsense, the G100CE guitar is a vibe-loaded acoustic that allows you to plug it in and won't break the bank! It's the couch guitar you can take to the streets.

The Synchromatic's Gretsch pickup offers flexibility and tone. The chromatic bridge and tailpiece provide balanced string tension and enhanced bass response. The art deco design is vintage cool!

More Than A "Jazz Box"

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

I first played a Synchromatic a couple of years ago, but at the time, didn't realize the unique flavors the guitar could offer in comparison with the Gretsch hollowbodys I was familiar with. The Synchromatic set up yields a voice of its own. A voice far different than the typical Gretsch equipped with Bigsby, Filtertrons, Dynasonics, etc. I use it for select classic country, rockabilly type tunes within a set. Using 12-53 flatwound strings, the tone is rich and full through a Blues Jr III. Single note lines never sound thin, but instead fill a great deal of sonic space. Though I'm not a jazz player, the guitars tone and smooth playability have inspired me to learn more chord inversions, and jazz oriented fills to use in the music I've been playing for years.
The G100CE Synchromatic exudes class. The chromatic tailpiece, chromatic rosewood bridge, headstock logo, the pickguard, all harken back to smoky night clubs, and late night jam sessions of more than 70 years ago. But the timeless good looks and tone of this Gretsch are as welcome today as they were in the 1940's. The G100CE electronics are simple and effective: one pickup, a tone knob, and a volume control.
Light weight, but a very solid feel. This is an "all night" guitar. The playability of the neck is as comfortable as I have ever known. The kind of guitar that one can play comfortably from the first tune until closing time.
I own three Proline Gretsch guitars. All of them very different in tone from the G100CE and two to three times more expensive. But the Synchromatic is still a favorite.

Jazz or Rockabilly

By Gene Miller

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

Loaded with 13 Elixirs gives that twangy rockabilly sound. Can be tamed and mellowed with Flatwound 12's.

Great for Jazz. Great for Country.

Finding a decent case a little tricky Gretsch web site does specify much. TKL 8116 or 9116 perfect.

It is a hollowbody guitar with a pick up and that's what it sounds like very cool tone and playability.
It is a great deal.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

I'm an old school guy 60's/70's classic rock who was away from playing and then after centuries finally bought the g100 black and now having trouble putting it down. It was incredible even the next school kids in the music store were very impressed with the sound and me playing Pink Floyd, Thw Who etc. Yes Fender,Gibson are great but The Gretsch Sound is a totally different sound no matter what kind of music you are playing.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar a month now and it is wonderful. Fret buzz when I first got it and adjusted it with wrench provided and good instructions included. After that, I quickly changed strings to Thomastik-Infeld 0.13-0.53 and now the box really sings mellow. Actual body depth is 3.45 inches, all dimensions mirror Gibson ES-175. I got TKL 8916 hardshell case they make for the ES-175 and it fits like a glove. Thank you Gretsch people!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

Just as the title of this review says, Gretsch's G100 certainly does not disappoint. I got this black model, as my band is starting to get a little more serious, and my playing was being limited by my old gear. Comes with Gretsch's lifetime warranty, and hand inspected. Oh, and flatwound stock strings. Perfect! Not only is this guitar a looker, but it's certainly a player. One of the best guitars I've ever played in my entire life. Smooth, low action. If you're debating it, just go ahead and buy this thing!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

Once in a while, you get a guitar that you think at the time will be a speciality axe for certain projects, and it turns out to be something you just can't put down. I've been using this guitar in all kinds of settings, and it's just a joy to play. I've got it strung with a .013 flatwound set. This is the first guitar I've used flatwounds on. I've got small hands, and some medical issues in the joints of some fingers, and yet this guitar is very easy to play with these strings on it. In a duo setting, with a percussionist, the sound through just a little GK 250ML solid state amp fills the room and feels very, very full. You expect this guitar to excel on the jazzier pieces, and on the rockabilly and jump blues numbers, but it also adds a unique and effective sound to the singer/songwriter stuff, the country ballads and even the rock numbers. Yeah, you won't be doing a lot of string bends with this set-up, but that just causes you to find other interesting modes of expression.

Only a couple of complaints: 1) the electronics were wired to have two tone knobs and no volume knob. Weird. The website doesn't reflect this set-up, so maybe it was a problem at the factory. I just had the music store re-wire it to the standard volume/tone configuration as a condition of the sale, which they did with no problem. 2) a hardshell case should have been included. Instead, they don't even make one and so I the store had to find an old Ibanez case that would fit it (more or less).

All that aside, I absolutely love this guitar. It's a real sleeper, and if Gretsch keeps making it I have to think that it's going to really take off at some point. Get in on it now while the pricing is copacetic!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

Perfect action and gorgeous, right out of the Gretsch box. I immediately brought it into my studio to hear it on an amp...it sounds and plays incredibly well. The range of tone is wide and the signature "jazz box" sound is unmistakable. I love this guitar and always enjoy playing it. There was an acoustic rattle (not picked up when plugged in) and it took awhile to isolate it. It was the pickup. Problem solved by slipping a folded piece of paper underneath, which cannot be seen. Definitely a great buy and a superb new guitar by Gretsch.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

Excellent Gretch guitar. Well worth the price. Just a touch of fret buzz but that is usually the fault of the guitarist. Nice adjustable bridge. Pickup not high quality but can be replaced.

I have a Ovation balladier. It has a richer tone than the Gretch BUT;;;;; it is hard to play. Strings to far above the frets. The Gretch G100CE is more like my Gretch Viking great string fret action.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

Excellent tone! The laminated woods in this guitar are actually an asset--minimal feedback, greater strength, and still great tone. For this guitar I prefer the blond and sunburst finishes, as the nice F holes are harder to see in the black finish. Wonderful choice for the arch-top enthusiast.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

This is my first arch top acoustic electric guitar. The guitar was delivered to my house three days after placing the order. The guitar came in excellent shape. After digging through the cardboard, I was surprised to find it almost in tune. The fit, finish and appearance were perfect. I love the flat black finish. The strings were a little flat so I put some 12/56 round wound strings on. I made a minor adjustment to the bridge and it was ready to play. So far, I have plugged the guitar into a Behringer Eurolive B205 personal monitor and the The sound is rich and full, just what you would expect from a Jazz Guitar. I am very pleased.
Regarding the case. Gretsch offers a hard shell case. This is, in my opinion rather pricey. I had a standard Roadrunner Classic Dreadnought case that I purchased from Musicians Friend, and from what I can see, the guitar fits well. The first time I placed the guitar into the case, it was just slightly tight when the cover was closed. Now that I have had the guitar, the padding has compressed slightly to create in my opinion, a totally acceptable fit.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar yesterday, and set up the bridge (anyone that says it is set up out of the box is lying...there is a piece of foam under the floating bridge that needs to be removed). It sounded great both plugged into a little practice Honeytone amp and acoustically. I hated the strings though. I am not a Jazz player, more rockabilly and blues...and a lot of fingerpicking. The huge gauge flatwound strings on it were not for me. I put on .10-.48 DR Zebras...and just love this guitar!!!

I received this guitar last week and have been playing it non-stop. Right out of the box, the intonation was set perfectly. Contrary to what some of the reviews state, I love the sound of this guitar unplugged. I am playing my first show with it this weekend, so we'll see how she works out in a live situation, but so far, I am loving this axe.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for both the seasoned musician as well as the beginner with a desire for an instrument that they'll have for, what will most likely be, their entire playing career. The guitars flat lacquer accentuates the natural look of the wood, and just screams, "play me". This instrument also offers a considerably balanced tone, with a slightly more present mid/high range. The neck is slightly narrow for my tastes, but I'm sure this would prove as an incentive for some. Great bang for buck!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G100CE Synchromatic Archtop Electric Guitar:

My 1st Gretsch..I am very pleased with it. Plays easy. Needs very little setup straight out of box. Dropped by local shop and tech straightened neck just a bit. Everything else seemed pretty good..he did suggest massaging the bottom of the floating bridge to fully contact the guitar body as it seems to only touch on the very ends.it could give it a fuller, richer sound. I am pleased at just how many different tones this guitar can give with a small amp..turn back the tone and get a great jazz sound or Western swing...turn tone towards treble side, add a little gain and grab some rockabilly, or crank it for a full on crunch...pretty amazing really!!
