OVERVIEW

Modern sonics, updated electronics and authentically elegant style.

Big, bold and righteous, the G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody is designed for the modern guitarist who yearns for something beyond the norm. A commanding guitar for powerful players, the G2420's modern sonics, updated electronics and authentically elegant style create the latest iteration of That Great Gretsch Sound.

The secret to the Streamliners sound is a new offering from Gretsch: the BroadTron humbucking pickup. Specifically designed by the expert engineers at Gretsch for the Streamliner, this high-output pickup spawns robust lows, pristine highs and a throaty midrange for a unique tone that blends well with other instruments in a band context. This sonic power is harnessed and shaped by the traditional control layout, neck and bridge pickup volume controls, a master tone control, master volume control and three-way pickup switching.

A fast-playing 12-radius rosewood fingerboard with elegant pearloid block inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets sits atop the white-bound nato neck with a thin U-shaped profile ideal for chord work or firing off speedy riffs. Enjoy rock-solid tuning stability courtesy of the stylish Gretsch chromatic tailpiece, Adjusto-matic bridge with secured rosewood base and synthetic bone nut. Parallel tone bars reinforce the top, allowing free vibration for familiar hollowbody tone while providing a strong, balanced voice.

All the classic eye-catching style you've come to expect from Gretsch is here: vintage-style gold control knobs, F holes, elegant two-ply white and black body binding, slick-looking nickel hardware, arched laminated maple construction and single-ply black pickguard with Gretsch logo. Nearly impossible to put down once you pick it up and start playing, the G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody is an astounding take on the authentic sound and classic style you've come to expect from Gretsch.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

There's no comments yet so I thought I would put in something. It's a nice guitar. The neck is incredible. I picked one up at a store on a visit and it was one of those times when you try a guitar that I couldn't find anything bad about it. Which is unusual for a guitar under five hundred.

I did a lot of research on comparable guitars in this price range...went to 2 different box stores in the next city to try out different brands. Then on a MF sale I pulled the trigger.

The guitar comes set up...even has a card by the person that set it up indicating what they did. I know a lot about guitars..playing for 40 years, I'm not a tech but can set up my own guitars. The strings that come on it are pretty bright. I guess since it's a gretsch. It reminds me of a cross between a Rickenbacker and a Gibson with those strings. I'm putting flat wounds on it to jazz it up.

The only downside of this guitar is the weight varies. The guitar I had delivered seemed heavier than the one I tried in the store. They don't publish weight, I assume since it's a laminated body, it would be hard to project what the weight is consistently. It's not like a Les Paul or my Fender basses but there's a bit of weight to it. Balanced good though, not top heavy.

The paint job is nice..all electronics are nice. The neck is excellent. I suddenly could play all those demolished jazz chords :) up and down the neck and runs were easy. Easy to finger pick also for acoustic blues.

It has humbuckers so the Gretsch purist will turn up their noses on this one and it's made in Indonesia if that matters. Regardless the guitar is made well. I notice when MF got a shipment they were immediately out of them so that is a good indication. I'm happy with my purchase. If nothing else it's a budget entry way into Gretsch guitars.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

What's not happening on the 2420? Just that it comes with extra lights strings. This is not some Ibanez shred machine to play metal on. (Nothing against metal)
What is happening. Everything else. It has a great neck that is wide but not too wide. It feels almost acoustic so if you're playing John Mayer or Jason Mraz, you stand a much better chance of not feeling like your faking it. Normally I play a tele or strat and occasionally a Les Paul Jr. and on material like aforementioned, those guitars have a very shallow feel. The 2420 to the rescue.
The sound is broad and midrangy so tele twang is not available. Blues sounds are big and fat and I'm pretty sure that if you put flat wounds on, you'ld have a very respectable jazz sound ( though I haven't tried that yet). The body is smaller and thinner than your standard fat body jazz guitar so for me, the comfort zone is way better. It sounds more woody than a Gibson 335. As for rock, it can definitely rock but for me it's more blues rock. You just have to have the right amp. It will be low volume rock because there is no center block and will feedback early. For me, that's perfect.
I play as a single and in a band. When I'm doing more jazzy stuff like Michael Buble the acoustic guitar just doesn't have the same vibe. So that's another reason why I like this guitar.
To wrap it up, everyone oohs and ahs when they see it and it does not seem to have any cheapness about it that is a detriment to the experience. The controls are simpler than the more expensive Gretsches and for me that is a plus. The setup was good although I will re-intonate after changing strings. I feel fine recommending this guitar.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

6 Stars out of 5! Mmmmm......I never was good at math. Of course this is for certain kinds of music. This guitar is similar to the Ibanez Artcore AF (or maybe AG) hollow bodies (they are terrific too), but I like this one even better. Make that a lot better. I have apparently lived long enough to see wonderful, gig worthy instruments being imported at surprisingly reasonable prices. There might be more guitar players from the boomer generation if everybody's first guitar was along the quality of today's imports...instead of an un-tuneable and un-playable tease of a toy masquerading as a instrument.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

Never expected a guitar with this high a level of quality, especially that was "made in Indonesia"....but, for *me*.... it is now my favorite electric guitar that I own (out of the 4 I do have:-)....I'm more of a finger-style player, with mostly acoustics', from Rainsongs to Taylors to Larrivee's..... and the transition from those to this guitar, is seamless. I only have an original 66' blackface Fender Vibro-Lux Reverb amp for my "electric" playing, which I thought would be the *wrong* amp to play it through, but it sounds wonderful....I have the "red-ish" Gretsch, and I absolutely love the finish/color. Highly recommended.

I have American guitars that don't com close to this guitar. I have never felt a better neck on a guitar. It seriously plays itself. I wanted a hollow body I wouldn't be scared to take on the road and play dive bars with. This more than exceeds my expectations. Give these Indonesians a raise cause they made a quality instrument for a very affordable price!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G2420 Streamliner Single Cutaway Hollowbody:

I just bought this guitar. I have a Joe Pass (which I love) & just got rid of my Triple pick-up Rivera. (P-90s) I love my Joe Pass but it won't handle EVERYTHING & has fewer frets. The Gretsch G5420 Streamliner does it ALL jazz to rock & everything in between. The pickups are like P-90s with NO 60 cycle hum. Compared it with an Epi Wildkat (P-90s hum & all) & the Gretsch left it in the shade on ALL counts. The Broadtron pickups are NOT the standard Gretsch jangley fair. The only thing Gretsch about this guitar is the excellent Gretsch build & quality. Also, I COULD easily put a Bigsby B60 on it but you couldn't GIVE me pay me to do that. Gretsch hit the lick on this model ax. BELIEVE that a yr from now it will list for more. It will cut thru ANY mix, don't feed back & the pick-ups & switching is PERFECT. Smooth as silk & loud. Handles pedals BIG TIME as well. Put in some earbuds & check the badd Lady out. (Y) ♪♪♪♪

It's rare that I fall for a guitar on looks but I have to admit this one got me as soon as I saw pictures of it. Still I wouldn't buy on looks alone, it's got to play...

I've had it for 2 days now so not a lot of time to play it yet and it's already growing on me. It can get the jazz tone and sounds great run through a cranked blues junior; without that howling feedback a hollow body usually creates yet when you want a note to feedback it's right there.
