The Grestch Americana Wild West Sweethearts guitar sounds much better than the vintage parlor sized guitar I purchased recently. The low end is full. The top end is a bit thin (if you actually compare this guitar to a standard flat top), but that thin sounds offers up a nice twang. As a graphic designer, I was drawn to purchase this guitar by the retro 40s styled graphics. Very cool. In my opinion, the other three designs in this series can?t touch this model. The design is well balanced and graphic style of the illustration is professionally executed and fits the series theme like a glove. After reading other positive reviews concerning how the guitar played I as almost sold. But I was still concerned about how the graphic was applied and finished. I worried a little that it might look cheap in person and might be easily scratched. Well... I don?t have any idea how Grestch applied this graphic. It doesn?t look cheap like a decal. The graphic is very smoothly applied and the finish is amazing. I?ve strummed away on the guitar for four days now with a pick and I haven?t nick or scratched the finish yet. Surely, at some point it will wear. But my point is that the finish not only looks great... it is going to hold up to some abuse. Additionally, the overall fit and finnish on the guitar sent to me was excellent.

I liked the quality of the other full sized Gretsch acoustics...and their somewhat different tone, so I took a chance and set up a pre-release purchase order for the set (another vendor). When I took this red one out of the box to check it, and turned it over, I was appalled to see grate marks, 4 deep scratches and smeared red paint over the attempted repair on 1/3 of the back. At the price, we're not talking high end collectible here... but dang; you'd think the maker would toss the bad wood and not force it through production. Nice idea, but...paying full price for a lesser wood (the whole body felt thin and cheap), poorer toned (than its entry level competition) guitar is just insane. The way it's made, I can't see it holding its value no matter how pretty the picture. Order cancelled.

I couldn't resist picking up this fun and frivolous item. The graphics are really amazing in person. Not only is this a great wall piece, it actually sounds pretty great. This would make a cool gift for a Dita Von Teese-type dame.

Cute little bugger

By Geetawr

Nice collectible. Picked it up for my girlfriend to tinker with and as a wall hanger. I'll be d***ed, but it doesn't sound too bad at all. Very playable. Very cool. I'm sure to buy the other three models as they become avaiable.

Great Little Parlor Guitar

It's a great little guitar to keep in the parlor or to travel with. I wasn't expecting much when I ordered it but it turned out to be better quality than expected. The action wasn't too bad and the intonation was fine. It stayed in tune great and it is easy to play on the couch or lazy boy because it's small. I own 3 american strats and a les paul and yet I enjoy messing around on this little guitar. Pick one up today, you can't go wrong for the cash.

I love it!

The Gretsch Americana Series Wild West Sweethearts guitar is fantastic! As a woman, I found that playing my husband's full size acoustic guitar was nearly impossible. The smaller body of this guitar has enabled me to learn quickly and comfortably. It's so fun to play that my husband is always stealing it from me!

A Real Guitar for Real Guitar Players!

By mrmusa-q7PXo

from Upstate New York

O.K. So I bought this guitar to set aside as a collectors item, hopefully to increase in value. However, as I kept looking at the neck inside the see through box, I just had to take it out and play it. Man, am I glad I did!!! This guitar plays as good as any expensive guitar with its full size neck. The sound is a wonderful full sound, not expected from such a small body. Therein lies the secret of this guitar: it sounds like a Martin parlor guitar of the last century. The fit, finish, sound and overall quality of this guitar, in addition to its unique appearence are all reasons to buy it. This is a FUN Guitar. Buy it. Enjoy it. Play it!!! You will not regret it!!!

Very Cool!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

For the price this thing sounds very, very good. It was set-up very well out of the box and the action is fairly low with no buzz. Very fun to play. Best sounding of the travel guitars I've played recently. However, the top and back are veeeery thin and it doesn't have the 1/8" thick plastic finish like most cheap guitars do. So it sounds good, but not something you really want to take camping. And it looks even cooler in person than in the photos. Nice red burst on the edge of top that doesn't show up in photos. Overall, a great little, fun guitar that looks good in the living room.

I liked the quality of the other full sized Gretsch acoustics...and their somewhat different tone, so I took a chance and set up a pre-release purchase order for the set (another vendor). Warm Fuzzy

By George-RQeMl

from Big Spring, TX

I just got my Gretsch Americana Series guitar in today. I'm very pleased. It has a nice solid feel. The tuners feel like they'll last, and the tone is unexpectedly rich. I was really just looking for something nice to hang on the wall of a new music room I'm building. I figured if it played decently that would just be a bonus. This guitar plays and sounds much better than average, and much better than I expected. I've decided to buy all four models over the next year and just make a nice wall display. I'm almost never entirely pleased with a purchase. I'm entirely pleased with this one.

Good tone and great size

I recently purchased a G4530 Americana Series Wild West Sweethearts guitar for my wife. (I wanted to check it out too!) I am very pleased with the finish, graphics, and playability of this little ax. The strings provided didn't have the best tone so I swapped them for a set of Martins. The tone and projection from this little beauty is amazing. The bass wile not booming is still full and the twang is all Gretsch. The action is very low with almost no buzz. A little truss rod tweek and viola no buzz at all.I am very happy with my purchase and my wife really loves her new showpiece.

I bought this originally to travel with, just something for the hotel rooms. it was MUCH better than I expected so I put a bone nut and saddle on, active pickup system, chrome tuners, and now play it live as well. GREAT parlor sound, plays very nice. Sounds wonderful dropped down a half step too. now if I can find a nice hardshell case.

Bought this for my 11 year old daughter and was blown away by the low action on this guitar. This thing almost plays itself and the sound is excellent!

Bottom of the Barrel

By C.J. Pistol

They must be handing out the guitars that failed inspection. My 1st one showed up very broken with a parabola-shaped break in the neck. The 2nd one showed up with the high E string unplayable for several frets. Both came from Overstock.com. It took 4 calls to handle the return. Earlier customers received working guitars, but not me. Even my replacement was broken! Wow!

Exploding guitar

This used to be my favorite guitar for blues. Until the bridge flew off. Of the dozen or so guitars I've had over the years, never have I had this problem, even in the dry cold winters of WI. The two dinky screws holding the bridge on were not up to the task, I guess...

It's kinda become my favorite guitar!

By Rob in OKC

I bought this as kind of a joke gift for a musician friend, but when it arrived it was love at first sight! This is not a toy. First, it looks great. The graphics look like they've actually been silk-screened on and not just some cheesy stuck on decal. Ok, so I tuned it up and it really does sound wonderful (y'know, for a budget axe): good balance between highs and lows, in tune up and down the neck (which, by the way is beautifully finished and feels great). I've never had a 3/4 size guitar and it really is the perfect sittin'-around-in-your-easy-chair-figurin'-stuff-out guitar. I'm keepin' it.

Playable Collectible

By Guitar Nutbag

from Corona, CA

I purchased the first of the 4 in the series of Gretsch Americana Series - "Wild West Sweethearts" guitar at the suggestion of a guitar store manager. I'm very surprised and pleased. It has a nice solid feel, and the tone is unexpectedly rich and bluesy. I really purchased it to hang on the wall and if it played decently would be a bonus. This guitar really plays and sounds much better than average, and much better than was expected. I plan to buy all four models in the series and hang on the walls of our studio. Playablility is actually good, and lots of fun. Tone is very different from other parlor guitars I've played. Overall it is very fun to play and has its own unique tonal qualities - especially for an axe made as a collector piece. Really can't give this guitar all scores of 10 when compared to most parlors, but it is a 10 in its own right.

What a suprise

By Tattoos are bad

from Du Quoin, IL

I bought the guitar more than anything for the look of the pin-up cow girls and I held my breath on the playability. I am blown away by the warm sound you get from this little thing. The action is actually great striaght out of the box. I bought it for the looks but I have played for 3 days compared to my Martin. I am taking it with me on a trip tomorrow since it is smaller also.

Fun Fun Fun

By HashBrown Willie

This is an awesome sounding little guitar. The only reason I gave it an "8" on quality, was because of a minor paint blemish caused by the packing material. I cant wait to take this puppy camping (it will be stored in my RV of course). My main guitar is a Gretsch G3700 Sierra Jumbo. I bought "The Showdown" today and I cant wait to collect 'em all!

A really cool guitar

By GuitarGuy-dz6Eg

from San Jose, CA

I would have given it a "10" for quality, but the first one I got was slightly flawed. If I wasn't using it as wall art, I wouldn't have really cared. Just a slight surface crack and a small ding from the factory. The second one I got was perfect. It's a great little guitar. I wouldn't use a pick, because of the art, but it is great for finger picking. I will definately be getting the whole series.

More than expected in a 3/4

By s.i.x.s.t.r.i.n.g.s

from Cambridge ON

Other than the fact that its a 3/4" scale acoustic, Gretsch has made an great acoustic for a great price. The only reason I gave the G4530 an 8 in features is because lets fact it, it's an acoustic. Not that much in the features department. The artwork is amazing in person and the photos on this site do nothing when compared. If you have some extra cash and need an acoustic, this should be a no brainer.
