o.k. , I've been holding off for
close to 3 years now, but will now review. This is one fun guitar to play. It is made in Korea, but it is put together really well. The neck is a real joy to play. look, I've been playing for over thirty years. I am blessed to own Gibsons, Fenders, no names, and Gretches. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a hollow body. The stock pups are able to sound clean and easy or down right nasty and dirty, My background? I've been influenced by Iggy and the stooges,The Who, MC5, Ramones, and The Clash. I've spent much time in the studio, on both sides of the glass. Also on the road. I know good sound and good quality when I hear it. If you want to be agressive, then this guitar will suite you well. On the other hand, if you like clean folk or blues, great guitar for these styles too. I play all these styles of music, and have much recording and commercial experiance. Like I said, I have been holding off for three years. I wanted to give this guitar a chance before I submitted a review. For the price, buy it. For you prima donnas moaning about switching out the stock pups. What ever. If you wanted the upgrade, you should have bought it in the first place. Don't waste everybody's time complaining about the pups. They are fine. I have allways purchased guitars for the sound they produce, not for what I think they should sound like. That's why I own so many. My 5120 stays in tune. I've got the orange finish. The wood grain, binding and color is awesome! I've got the clear pickguard. Most object to this pickguard, but I think it looks great. I got a great deal on this guitar, but would have no objections to the price tag or more. You know you want to buy it, so what are you waiting for???

I admit, i bought this guitar a year ago for its looks and the reviews. It has a great sound and playability too. However, the body is made of some very shoddy material. I put it down on my couch and the input jack that plugs into the side punched clean through leaving a hole where the jack was. the tuners are cheap and go out if tune easily. Finally, it seems that everything that screws on to this guitar comes unscrewed. My biggest complaint is the wafer-thin laminate body material. No excuse for that. Sorry, i know you want to hear good things about this beauty. It does have its aforementioned merits.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I just finished playing mine and was inspired to write this review to make one specific point. I have had my 5120 since they first came out so mine is a few years old now. Perhaps it has sweetened up even more with age. But here's what I want to emphasize: I own two other Gretsch guitars, a Setzer Hot Rod, and a 6122-1959. If you are holding back on buying a 5120 because you think you would be settling for a second class guitar compared to a "real" Gretsch ... well, don't! I treasure my 5120 just as much as the other two and sometimes it even sounds better to me - and that is saying something because I love the other two very dearly. The 5120 punches WAY above its price.
Bigsby tremolo, somewhat unusual tone and volume controls
I was won over the very first time I opened the case. Finish and playability are excellent.
There is not a better value and only one other that is equal in terms of bang for the buck - and that is the Epi Swingster.

Smooth guitar

By Alex Wilson

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for a month and love it! It has that classic thick Gretsch sound, but it also can cut through when it needs to. It looks as smooth as it sounds. There are tons of videos and manuals online via the Gretsch website that helped me set up my new guitar and get the tone dialed in. Sounds great, and you can't miss it on stage! I'll be rockin this guitar for a long time.

This guitar has it all. I promise that you will not be disappointed in any way with this guitar!
My wife surprised me with this guitar (in Tennessee Orange) for our anniversary. Immediately, I was amazed by its tone and playability, not to mention the great looks!
You are not going to find a guitar, any guitar, of this quality for this price. This is the guitar you have dreamed of! I have owned a few hollow bodies before, but none that come even close to the sound and feel of this one.
I do not believe that a better guitar can be had in this price range.

Living Beast

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

The first time i played one of these things through some tubes, and it started resonating in my hands I bought it. Awesome sound, have a lot of soul, and is very classy. Be warned its big though, but that should be expected of a hallow body.
Bigsby is great. pick ups are very versitle, although im thinking of adding another in the center because you can never have too many options. Tuneing machines are GARBAGE! the thing will not stay in tune out of the box. I replaced mine with locking tuners, set the bridge, and dialed in the intonation, now it sounds great all the time.
Everything besides the tuneing machines is very high quality.
For the price, I dont think there is anything else out there that looks and sounds as good. a little personalization makes this a sweet player.

G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Over all it's a good solid guitar, decent hardware. The intonation was right on when I got it, that's the first thing I check, I hate to play a guitar that is only in tune in the first position. It's worth the money and it's a pretty little thing, I got the white one and it's a head turner.
I like the master volume control, because when you're driving it in the center with both pickups on, you can get a little feedback and you can tame it. The BIgsby licensed is a good unit, solid, chunky.
The build quality seems good, there are a few places on the edges of the f holes where the white paint is removed or scraped off.. maybe they had to do some electronic work and scratched the edge of the holes? The hardware so far is good. It stays in tune and no bridge or trem buzzez. The finish is flawless, except for the rough f hole thing. The pickups sound great. I was able to get that big thick jangle. s
You can't beat this guitar for the money. It is definitely worth the price. It doesn't come with a bag or a case, so be prepared to spend more for a case. I ordered a case at the same time, but the guitar and case were shipped in seperate boxes, go figure.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I plugged 'er up, cranked the gain, volume, and every other thing I could possibly do to make this thing feed back, like most fully hollowbody guitars do, and i could only bring 'er to the edge. Then, after actually dialing in my tone on the amp, and through my pedal, I couldn't believe how amazing she sounds. Clean, on the neck pickup, she sounds ALMOST acoustic. Bridge pickup, clean, sounds very tele-esque, but with a bit more balance and low end. She feels great, fairly low action, and SMOOTH. The finish is beautiful, very well made product. 10 out of 10.
She's got dual filtertrons, and a Bigsby Vibrato tailpiece, what more features do ya need?
A very well built guitar.
The price could go up a grand, and I'd still buy a couple. She's a nashville at heart, and it shows.

Great customer service and online videos
Got my new Gretsch as specified and love it. After a week I developed a fret buzz, but not to worry. There are great videos on YOUTUBE that show Gretsch Techs setting up and adjusting new guitars that are easy to do and will make your playing more enjoyable. I adjusted the bridge and truss rod with no problems and now I like this thing even better!

It's a good guitar if you wanna put some money in it i did but now i don't play any other

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar! you get what you pay for so if you wanna put money into it it is a great guitar! You get what you pay for.
The select switch cut in and out on me from day one I bought a whole new wire harness with switch and tone pots.
There seems to be some confusion as to if the pickups are good? If you are playing with a practice amp yes they are nice. I play through a 67bandmaster and people if you switch out the pickups and you got a good amp you will not regret it let me tell ya.
I wish it was a little cheaper The guitar and the bigsby is the only things left origanal. and the first thing I had to do is take it in to a guitar shop and have the frets reglued down and filed. I tried everyone of these i could find and they all had fret problem bad fret problems but they got good necks so find one with straight neck and take it to a guitar tech and have them redo the frets. playing good to the ninth fret not work for me lol.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

the sound is amazing if your into blues, country, or southern rock (there is a pattern emerging here people!!)
The bigsby tail peice is fun to play around with but you will go out of tune in a heat beat if you do, which is to be expected. the humbuckers are very warm and bluesy sounding whitch is great because thats what i bout the g5120 for.
Bought it in black and the finish is ehh, standard gloss black nothing special. DON'T buy with the clear pick guard unless you dont mind an ugly pickguard after only a couple weeks of playing (it scratches horibaly and looks bad when it does!) construction feels pretty sturdy overall.
depending on the genere of music your planing on playing this guirar can be an amazing amount of bang for your buck! obviously your not going to be buying this guitar to shred metal leads or chunky progressions but if your into the southern rock or country maybe rockabilly chickin pickin type stuff this is the guitar for you, 'less you have 3 grand for the real thing (6120)

Currently owning a few Strats, a Tele, a few acoustics, and a Les Paul...this finishes all my quests in tonal variety. What a wonderful guitar, and it didn't break the bank! I did change to Ernie Ball .009's though. The strings that came with it sounded good enough, they were just not what I would normally use. I do some jazz, some Allman Brothers, etc. This now does both equally well. As for the few cons I read about this, I have no bad experiences with this guitar yet. The Gretsch humbuckers, will sing or growl at will. I may get another, for those odd tunings!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have been watching this guitar for sometime and when it went on sale I jumped on it and I am glad I did. My current setup was running a customized '72 Thinline Tele (P-90 in the bridge) through some effects into a 5 watt tube amp connected to a homemade cabinet with 10" speaker. Apartment jamming setup. When the Gretsch arrived I removed the foam pad from under the bridge then adjusted the intonation by the placement of the bridge. This was easy and took only a few minutes. I then jammed for a while. The new Gretsch has an awesome clean tone. You can also get really cool dirty tones through a tube screamer and adding some reverb. I did play it through a BigMuff Pi and yes, the tone is killer, but the feedback is enormous. Then, while jamming I did notice that the action was a little high so I lowered the bridge and re-adjusted intonation. That helped some but I also noticed a slight bow in the neck and that while running up the frets the intonation was off. I gave it a few days to see if the change in humidity from shipping would clear the neck bow but it did not so today I adjusted the truss rod. I had only done this once before but it is pretty straight forward and again, only took a few minutes. The intonation up the fret board is now on and the action is even easier. So in the end I only had to make small adjustments and now have a rockin' jam rod. I am pleased with my purchase.
