Just a good, solid guitar
I've been a Gretsch player for 40+ years. I just began to play again after a few years hiatus. I purchased the Electromatic 5122. It reminded me of my old CG from the 60's. Looks can be deceiving,,,but not in this case. This guitar is great. Comfortable, easy picking, and the Gretsch sound is right out there. The guitar is attractive, and well-made. It might be Korean made, but a Gretsch, is a Gretsch, is a Gretsch. Nice job. I won't be strapping this one to my motorcycle, but it will be lying across the back seat of the car.

Buy this Gretsch and you won't be sorry. For the price you can't beat this fantastic professional instrument
Gretsch G5122 eminates a purity rarely heard in guitars.
The neck is fabulous and feels somewhere between a Gibson 60's and a 50's.
The fit and finish are empeccable. The tone is clear and twangy in a Rickenbacker 360 kinda vibe. Not too twangy like a Telecaster. The guitar is relatively light and you can feel the whole body vibrate against your chest...good resonance. The real test is how it sounds unplugged...and this Gretsch passes with flying orange colors. Bigsby is tight and works well
The new improved pickups have a lot of beautiful tonal color and sound very close to the original dearmonds of yesteryear. Really a great value that sounds and looks cool
No issues...the fit and finish were perfect
Great value for an archtop of this quality. Really sounds sweet.....crank up the gain and you can play the heavy distorted rock with full body of tone.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5122 Double Cutaway Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:
This is my first Gretsch guitar and honestly this is probably the first time I can say that I've played/owned a quality guitar. This guitar is fantastic, it looks and feels amazing. When I ordered mine I was going to change the clear pick guard because my guitar is the black model and I thought silver would look better. Luckily, mine came with the silver pick guard instead!
I freaked out a little bit the first time I played it because when I would switch pick ups the guitar would stop giving signal, but after switching a lot the guitar broke in and got used to it. Now it switches without issue. This is a good thing because the switch from bridge to neck is so great. It sounds lovely in the rhythm position, I used it for blues and jazz. Its muffled tone compliments slow 7th chords in songs like "Who Wouldn't." The lead pick up is very clear and sort of trebly at first but can be adjusted. I use it when playing Rock songs like "Something" by The Beatles, or "D'Yer Ma'ker" by Led Zeppelin. It compliments both George and Jimmy's playing. Middle position is an obvious mix of the two. It's the full sound that you'd think of when you see the guitar. I use it for Indie or Latin music such as "Coconut Champagne" by Dennis Diblasio.
This guitar is a solid instrument and very nice both plugged in or even acoustic. It is very versatile and you look professional playing it. It is very worth the money and I recommend it to anybody who want's to get into jazz, blues, or any softer types of music. It isn't a White Falcon but it will still get the job done and more.
Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5122 Double Cutaway Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:
The Gretsch G5122 is a beast worthy of a name in place of a model number. It has all the tone you'd expect from an American made Gretsch at almost half the price. I've played on various hollowbody's from Epiphones and Gibsons to Ibanez and Vox, but the G5122 can't be beat for it's quality and value.
Do yourself a favor and get a nice amp with a lot of reverb and vibrato, because this guitar deserves it.
My only slight issue with the G5122 is the pickups. While I do like the loudness of the humbuckers, I miss the twangyness of Filtertrons. I was told that there's a way to adjust the pickups to get that sound, so I'll see if I can make that happen.
The craftsmanship is amazing considering it's made in Korea and the details look, feel, and play like a Country Gentleman's younger brother. I especially love the Bigsby for that perfect vibrato when playing Jazz, Rockabilly, and Surf.
Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5122 Double Cutaway Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:
Ordered on Friday, received on Tues. at 3:00. Removed the foam under the bridge, set intonation and tuned, played in a gig at 7 the same evening. Bandmates were all happy with the new "Gretsch Sound". Guitar is flawless. Workmanship is as good as my Gibson Les Paul or my Taylor or my Fender. Play through a Blues Deluxe, a Pro Jr. or a Marshall AS100D. Each has it's independent sound and I love each one. I would recommend this to anyone. This guitar produces a clear, clean sound from every string anywhere on the neck. I couldn't be happier.
The picture on Machinist's Friend has a clear pickguard but mine is white. A little deceiving, but I was already shopping for a white one to replace the clear, so I'm happy.
Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5122 Double Cutaway Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:
Overall I was dissapointed with the tuning on the guitar. It sounded great but the tuning problems was a huge turn off and for that reason I returned it for a refund.
There was a discoloration in the woodgrain on the fretboard. Not a show stopper but if I had the choice I would opt for one with a more even woodgrain. There was a spot on the body where it looked like the stain was darker.
I was constantly having to tune the guitar. It was in tune at the low C position and out of tune at the high C position. This was the main reason I returned it.
Good price for a Gretsch.
Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5122 Double Cutaway Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:
While I can play typical folk guitar stuff I am by no means a guitarist, however I have built a few and repaired a few, so I know a little about them. I plan on learning and now I believe I have just the instrument to do it with all at a very fair price.
When I was a kid, my mom bought some 8-track tapes (this dates me) with Chet Atkins playing standards (not the country twangy stuff). I listened to those tapes until they wore out. I also listened to CCR, Peter Paul and Mary and others to no end and I was hooked on music. I learned piano (besides other wind instruments) and went on to play in several bands. In the back of my mind, I always had songs like, "Bluestone" and "Red Roses for a Blue Lady" in jazz style, rolling around. I found them so relaxing, but they had to have that Chet Atkins tone guitar...
Fast forward to me buying an Epiphone 335 copy on that auction site - which was advertised as being playable and in good condition. Uh, no... it wasn't. Back it went, and my search for THAT guitar that would play THAT tone was intensified. After a few music stores and lots of time on YouTube, I started to zero in on the Gretsch... I was looking at the Brian Seltzer and the Chet Akins guitars but in reality (since I am not really a guitar player) they were a little spendy for me.
After reading a bit about the 5122DC vs. the 5120 and carefully listening to the difference in tone, I opted for the 5122DC, and since I wanted a RED guitar I opted for the Walnut finish. My guitar came from a local Luthier named Eric Miller who spent about 45 minutes on initial setup (more to be done later) and I brought the lead guitar player from the band I'm in. Well, all I had to hear was the first strum on this guitar to KNOW this was the one.
As a side note, the lead guitarist I spoke of earlier told me he had played both a Brian Seltzer model as well as a Tennesseean (both Gretsch Guitars) that he hated the "feel" of. He said they were like playing 2x4's. After playing this 5122, he said it was VERY different and very playable; with a neck somewhere between a Les Paul and a Strat. He said the scale felt like the Strat (which he plays most.) I consider this a ringing endorsement from him.
The tone is JUST right. The finish is flawless. Electronics are perfect and right out of the box, it's just plain nice. Now, I will say that it does need some fine tuning (as would any new guitar) and the tone *I* like might not be the tone *you* like... but I couldn't be happier with this guitar.

I own a 1958 Gibson ES 175, quality of this guitar does'nt come close to Gibson. At the time of purchase I did not know this guitar was not made in the USA. Recommend stick with Gibson.

I've always wanted a Gibson ES335, but the high price scared me away. This hollow body Gretch G5122 was a great compromise. Not only is it a beautiful guitar (I have the Walnut Stain), but it sounds fabulous, for a third of the price of the Gibson! The quality of this Korean guitar is first rate. Even the standard hard case was extremely high quality. I would recommend this guitar to anyone playing rock, blues or country.
Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5122 Double Cutaway Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:
I got this guitar about 3 weeks ago. And ever since I played it the first time I always felt like it should sound better than it did. The tone was just not as "full" as I though it would. It played amazing, but sounded like crap. It was extremely light weight and just felt cheap in general. I play out of a VOXAC30 so I know it was the guitar. And my Tele and LP sound awesome out of it. I wanted the Gretsch to provide the big warm tones where the Tele and the LP may have fallen a little short on, but that was not the case at all. I have had an Ibanez Artstar and a DeArmond (Guild's 2nd comp)and both sounded MUCH better than this Gretsch. For as long as I can remember I've always held Gretsch aa the top end on semi and hollow body guitars, but not anymore. Definitely disappointed.
