OVERVIEW

Knockout punch and phenomenal twang.

When the Gretsch R&D team recently unearthed a Baldwin-era Filter'Tron pickup with knockout punch and phenomenal twang, they incorporated its DNA into dynamic new "Black Top" Filter'Tron pickups, which now endow Electromatic hollow-body instruments such as the G5420T with an electrifying new voice and identity.

The G5420T Electromatic Hollow Body is a sharp new Gretsch guitar with a bound single-cutaway hollow body featuring sound-post bracing and elegant bound f holes. Other features include a maple neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and hump-block pearloid inlays, gold plexi pickguard, three-position pickup switch, classic "G" arrow control knobs, rosewood-based Adjusto-Matic bridge and Bigsby-licensed B60 vibrato tailpiece, vintage-style open-back tuners and gold-plated hardware.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5420T Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Played well straight out of the box. Didn't care for the stock strings, but my luthier did a setup with D'Addario 11's and now it has the great Gretsch sound I wanted. Looked it over carefully out of the box; no flaws, workmanship was excellent. Gold hardware and inlays give it a classy look.My luthier called it a "statement guitar" and I have to agree. As other reviewers have noted, the volume nob is not linear. Just a personality quirk that requires some getting used to. Bigsby vibrato works well; a bit stiffer than the whammy on my Strat, but again, just something to get used to. Some reviewers have noted difficulties getting a good case. My local GC in ATL carries Gator brand cases, and they had a quality hard shell case that fits the Gretsch G5420T like a glove. I bought this guitar to play Beatles and rockabilly, but got a pleasant surprise: on the neck pickup only, it is a respectable jazz box, and I expect to enjoy exploring that aspect of the guitar. It sounds great for just about any style of music. If you are looking for a quality, well-made mid-priced hollow body guitar that looks great, sounds great and is very versatile, this guitar fills the bill very well. If it gets damaged or stolen, I would definitely replace it with the same model, same color.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5420T Electromatic Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Very versatile guitar. Easy to dial in everything from rockabilly to a sweet, fat jazz sound and some blazing dirty rock. Playability, build and sound as good as much more expensive guitars.
