Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5422DC-12 Electromatic 12-String Hollowbody Guitar:

What strikes me most is the ease of play. The neck plays like that of a six string possessing a nice low action. Seems to remain in tune as well. This Gretsch is a nice way to spice up your collection. A unique sound at an affordable price.

      Well Done!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5422DC-12 Electromatic 12-String Hollowbody Guitar:

This is NOT the guitar for you if:

you want a 12 string out of the box with acceptable intonation, proper string gauge, correct nut spacing, and proper string saddles.

out of the box, this guitar is unplayable. a floating bride on a 12 string makes me question the reasoning of Gretsch's R&D personnel.

The actual saddles that the strings are placed in are not tooled properly. (At least not on the guitar I received) The strings actually sit atop the saddles and in the bass register do not sit within the grooves. Out of the box, the string saddles will need to be retooled. This operation is outside the scope of most players, and more the job of a skilled luthier.

The nut is made of plastic material. This by itself is not a deal breaker, but the spacing of the strings and the depth of the grooves in which the strings sit is very high and creates a very high action even in the first position. The correction of the nut would be another expense for an aftermarket modification should a customer choose to keep the instrument.

I am considering sending this guitar back as correction of these design issues require additional operations that are mandatory for #1 correct intonation, and #2 reduce frequency of string breakage. #3. Instrument playability.

Lastly, the up front cost appears low, but Musicians Friend price for a hollowbody with no case, no gig bag, improperly tooled hardware, a nut that was cut improperly, and pots that are either ON or OFF and no in between is further insult to injury. Read your warranty card carefully. it would be funny if it didn't involve a purchase you made.

With the guitar out of the box, and tuned to pitch, if a player wants to execute chords above the fifth fret, there will be faulty intonation, this rendering the guitar all but useless for anyone wanting to perform more ambitious music beyond first position chords.

This guitar is the Gretsch company's offering for an affordable alternative to Gibson's recent Les Paul Traditional 12 string, as well as 2013's ES335s 12 string. This guitar has Gibson dwarfed by way of affordability on paper, but does nothing impressive by way of build quality.

i really wanted to like this guitar. i really did. but after spending the bread I could afford, I have to say that this guitar is not worth the time, or money at any price. While Gretsch did make some great guitars years ago, their current line of affordable guitars doesn't cut it. Yes, the guitars look good, but for players who need a reliable guitar for work or jamming, this isn't one of them.

Would I recommend this guitar to a friend? no way.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5422DC-12 Electromatic 12-String Hollowbody Guitar:

Great setup made it playable right out of the box. Holds tuning very well. The action rivals a more expensive 6 string......very versatile instrument.
I do have to agree with the other reviews however. The tone pots might as well be non-existent. A full sweep reveals very little response. Be prepared to make tone adjustments at the amp.
Other than this noticeable flaw it still is a great value for the money and I recommend it.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5422DC-12 Electromatic 12-String Hollowbody Guitar:

I would absolutely concur with the review from Richie in Howard Beach. The guitar is beautiful and plays amazing. The action, the intonation are great and it stays in tune. The pots leave a lot to be desired. They do not sweep evenly. You turn and turn and then just before it locks, the sound changes a lot! Other than that, very happy with the guitar. I sounds great and plays great.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5422DC-12 Electromatic 12-String Hollowbody Guitar:

I have onwed a few 12 String Acoustics in my time but never an Electric 12 String. After seeing Mike Nesmith of the Monkees play one during their last tour I decided I HAD to have one. When the G5422DC arrived I was (and still am) very impressed. It stays in tune, the intonation was right on and it sounds great. The action is as good as any 6 string and you can play lead and bend strings on it. The Volume and Tone pots could be more versatile. They are basically on or off. They don't offer much in the way of adjusting. Having said that, I still recommend this guitar to anyone who has an interest in solid 12 String electric with that 60's jamgle vibe.
