      Gretsch Guitars

Classic Gretsch looks and improved sound with new pickups and a sustainful center block.

The G5655T-CB Electromatic Center-Block Electric Guitar features "That Great Gretsch Sound" with the "center-block advantage." The interior solid spruce center block running the length of the guitar’s 1-¾"-deep Double Jet body makes for a lively "high gain-friendly" tone and delivers greater control over the kind of feedback players want. The new dual-coil Super HiLo’Tron neck pickup is voiced to produce a clean, high-end sparkle with robust low-end, low-noise performance. Together with the "Black Top" Filter’Tron bridge pickup, it’s a potent tonal combination.

Other premium features include five-ply maple body construction with a bound arched top and back, a bound maple neck and a 12.5”-radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and Neo-Classic "thumbnail" inlays. The G5655T-CB also has three-way pickup switching, single-ply black pickguard with Gretsch logo, four "G-arrow" control knobs (volume for each pickup, bridge-pickup-only tone, master volume), anchored Adjusto-matic bridge and flat-handle Bigsby-licensed B50 vibrato, Grover tuners and knurled strap retainer knobs. Case sold separately.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5655T Electromatic Center Block Electric guitar:

I really like almost everything about this guitar. It looks incredible, it plays very well, and its sound is absolutely killer. The only downside is that the tuning stability disappears entirely when I try to use the Bigsby. I haven't tried lubricating the nut or the saddles yet, but my use of the Bigsby would be pretty minimal even if it worked flawlessly.

The pickups were better than I expected from Gretsch pickups after hearing a friend knock the old in-house pickups as compared to the Filtertrons. I think Gretsch did a great job with these black tops. The neck can be a little darker than I prefer, so I tend to use it when I want to sit in the back of the mix more. I use both pickups for general rhythm playing, and switch to the bridge for leads when I want a more biting tone. It works out really well and I have no intention of swapping out the pickups, which is rare for me.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5655T Electromatic Center Block Electric guitar:

I just bought one of these in Georgia Green and the picture doesn't do the color justice, its just gorgeous. Really looks great, I've been getting compliments on it non stop. The thing about this guitar though is that it sounds and plays even better than it looks. I've always been a Fender Strat kind of a guy, but once I picked up my buddies Pro Jet, I fell for Gretsch. Let me tell you this G5655T blows that guitar way out of the water. The neck pickup get a really beefy thick tone which is great for distorted blues like stuff. I play through a Peavy Classic 30 tube amp with an Ibanez Tube Screamer and man this guitar hits hard. The bridge pick up gets a really nice classic twang when clean, when dirty it screams for lead riffing type stuff. I also can get some really sweet clean tones out of these two pickups great for more finger picking folk type stuff. The B50 Bigsby works great and doesn't make the guitar go out of tune, once I had it set up at the shop and got my hands on it, I haven't had any issues. I use the Bigsby quite a bit too. This guitar also feels amazing to play, the neck and frets are real smooth and the action nice and low, Im just as quick on lead stuff as I am on my Strat as I am on this Gretsch. The neck is a perfect size too, enough to get my thumb around the top for the root in un-barred bar chords. Hats off to Gretsch, really well done. If you're thinking about getting one, stop thinking and do it! I'm pretty sure the next guitar I eventually get will be a Gretsch, the really know how to make them.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars G5655T Electromatic Center Block Electric guitar:

Recently purchased this model in black and have played it at several gigs so far. Great classic Gretsch tone. Pickup combination provides articulate, crisp notes whether clean or overdriven.
I have had several people approach me and comment on how sexy the guitar is, they have asked what make/model of Gretsch this guitar is as it really looks similar to a higher priced Duo Jet.
Only negative is the Bigbsy, which has trouble staying in tune even on minor vibrato's. It really should be set up with a B3 not a B50/B5 as the string angle is too steep coming over the bridge. I have purchased a tuning stabilizer in hopes of remedying this tuning issue. Overall very pleased with the purchase.
