A painstaking replica of George's 'first good guitar'!

It was 1961 when George Harrison finally got his hands on a genuine American guitar worthy of his prodigious musical genius. The Duo Jet was Gretch's entry into the "solidbody" market (though this instrument actually has a couple of body chambers) in 1953. George's was probably made in 1957 and it was used on many, many Beatles recordings. This exact replica has a number of differences from the standard G6128T including aged binding and inlays, rocking bar bridge, slightly different knob and switch placement, and large body chambers for ultralight weight. Single-coil DynaSonic pickups, hump block inlay fretboard markers, multiple body bindings, and silver plexi pickguard give it the perfect vintage vibe. An arched maple top with mahogany back and sides, a one-piece mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, and Bigsby vibrato are all just like the original.

Gretsch Duo Jet

While my friend is painting my Les Paul, I have been using his Duo Jet. It plays amazingly fast, and the clean sounds this thing produces are phenomenal. This guitar is definitely not meant to be played with distortion, unless you're going for that surf-punk sound. The bridge pickup doesn't sound all that good by itself in my opinion -- a little too twangy, but put the toggle in the middle and you get a classic surf sound. In the neck position, it makes a clear, mellow, kind of dark sound that is perfect for blues, reggae and ska. Play a fast jazz run on this thing and you will be sold. I'd buy one if they weren't so expensive.
