I don't like the way it sounds. I don't like the chambered body, or the pickups...Just a matter of style & taste, that's all. This guitar has too much treble. I have a 64' Gretsch 6117 as my main guitar and this one doesn't come close to the warm, rich tone. As far as the quality and value go, it's awesome! This is a very well built insturment.
I pulled my Dad's 1959 Firebird out from under the bed. It's abosolutly pristine. Not a scratch. My kids play an LP and an SG. While I've been playing with other guitars, I keep coming back to the Gretsch. What a sound! The sustain is awsome, its plays very well, and its a piece of history. I haven't played a modern Firebird, but if they look, sound and play like my Dad's, buy it now.
