OVERVIEW

A joyful combination of vintage style and modern playability.

One strum of the Honey Dipper Round-Neck Resonator Guitar transports you back 80 years to a hobo jungle just off the tracks, where wandering workers congregate in camaraderie and the comforting and captivating strains of a real all-metal resonator guitar waft through the smoke of oil-drum fires and enchant the ears with a sound like raindrops beating on a rusty pump house roof.

The very sound and look of this fine Gretsch creation will make you want to free yourself from the damning confines of your office, your cubicle or whatever it is that enslaves you and hop the next train to anywhere with a smile on your face as big as the sky and a song in your heart. Limited Edition - 300 pcs Worldwide. Comments about Gretsch Guitars Limited Edition Roots Series G9202 Honey Dipper Special Resonator Acoustic Guitar:

Overall, I think this is an awesome guitar. I have only had cheaper models to compare with so I am no expert. I was first very surprised by the weight, it's pretty heavy but I always play seated so not an issue for me. I couldn't imagine trying to play this on a strap! The maple neck against the oxblood color is a nice contrast... the color and style make a really cool looking instrument. My only gripes (and these are fairly minor) are that the finish is not a "weathered" look as I expected. It is a smooth, metallic dark maroon. I wanted more weather beaten look that would. Hide imperfections while looking like an older guitar. Since it is a smoother finish it was easy to see there were a couple of very tiny scrapes that allowed the grey metal to show through on the top side. However, this was the only blemish I could find, you would only see it if you were doing a close inspection. The action was higher than I normally play but still had no trouble fretting. The slide sounds awesome and I could play all the way up the neck with no buzz. The cone is nice and loud and puts out a really cool swampy sound. I play mostly Delta/country blues so this will open up new areas of my favorite styles to explore.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Limited Edition Roots Series G9202 Honey Dipper Special Resonator Acoustic Guitar:

Looks beautiful, but arrived with dead frets #s 10-13 and #1 for high E. Unplayable. Also has a small crack in neck binding at body joint. It's back ordered and permanently out of stock so I can't get a new one, which just makes this whole process very frustrating. Do not buy this guitar. A quick glance or run up the neck would have flagged it as a lemon. No other resonator in the price range because it was a SDOD. No offer to make up for the hassle of having to ship it back even though I have bought literally over $15k from Musicians Friend. Disgusted, never again. So much for their great customer service!

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Limited Edition Roots Series G9202 Honey Dipper Special Resonator Acoustic Guitar:

I've been wanting a resonator for a while. i bought this on impulse (Stupid Deal of the Day) figuring that it would help me determine what I liked and didn't like. Very pleasantly surprised at the quality and the sound. It's pretty loud! It's also pretty heavy but, hey, metal body with a resonator cone. Of course it's heavy. Good action, too. I've been having a lot of fun trying open tunings and it does a good job of staying in tune. In general, a good value - especially as the SDOTD.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Limited Edition Roots Series G9202 Honey Dipper Special Resonator Acoustic Guitar:

I've played guitar for years but this is my first resonator. It responds much differently than any other guitar I've played: the brass body (not wood) gives it less bass response but great highs and the most sustain I've ever heard from an acoustic instrument. Also, it weighs about 12 pounds so it's the heaviest guitar I've ever played.

When fingerpicked, this instrument is gentle and subtle. When played with a plectrum it's decent but not exceptional. When played with metal fingerpicks it's bright and bold. Playing with a brass slide is a tremendous sound. I mounted a 'pickup' microphone to the bridge and was not at all happy with the results, a much better amplification solution is placing a small diaphragm condenser mic about 6 inches from the bridge.
