Comments about Guild GAD-5N Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Purchased this after owning several "old school classicals" that were too hard to play. The neck on this guitar almost feels like my Fender electric guitar necks. Can play much longer time now due to ease of the fingerboard. The Paduk wood not only looks incredible but I compared the tone with the rosewood model and the Paduk clearly sounded better. No dissapointments here!
Comments about Guild GAD-5N Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
The materials used are first-rate, the build quality is excellent. Unplugged the guitar's tone is very open and sweet and clear, with plenty of volume. Plugged in, the sound maintains the same excellent qualities. I have experience with guitars of every price range, and this one rates way up there with the best, regardless of price.
This should be made clear: the neck joins the body at the 12th, not 14th, fret. The description is incorrect. The bone nut and bone saddle gve this guitar a lot of class. The cutaway gives very good access to the upper frets. Solid cedar top means the tone will improve with age. The ebony fingerboard gives smooth fretting. Lastly, the solid reddish padauk sides and back give this guitar a very majestic appearance, a refreshing change from the common brownish mahogany or rosewood. The electronics are very simple -- an under-saddle pickup, and a preamp powered by 2 AA batteries, with no volume or tone controls; yet the amplified sound is very natural, with none of the nasally, quacky sound you find in so many pickup system of this design. In sum, the amplified is very good -- natural and open, with very little hiss.
The build quality is excellent for a factory-made guitar. The fit and finish are first rate. The nut and saddle might need some lowering if you want absolute low action. The factory settings are fine for most people. The frets are nicely finished, with no sharp ends and no buzzes.
An all-solid wood guitar of this quality, with a big name like Guild, is hard to beat at this price. Others in this price range will have laminated sides backs. No laminates here, all solid wood. A Guild hardcase is included. The only weakness are the tuning gears, which on my guitar are somewhat tight to turn, but the upside is that they keep the guitar in tune fairly well. I have seen smooth gears on other guitars, but this is minor gripe.
