OVERVIEW

Amplify the natural beauty of solid African mahogany with onboard Fishman pickup.

With its comfortable body and distinctive voice, the M-120E provides excellent balance and a delicate tone. Featuring solid African mahogany top, back and sides, the M-120E' 24 ¾ scale length, vintage shaped Guild neck, and 1¾ nut width make this concert size guitar easy to play.

The Fishman Sonitone pickup allows for expert amplification of this small-bodied guitar' incredibly rich sound. Additional features include an Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, NuBone nut and saddle, and period-correct tortoiseshell pickguard. A mother-of-pearl rosette and Guild' iconic Chesterfield headstock emblem reminiscent of 1960s models complete the package.

Comments about Guild M-120E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Solid mahogany guitars have a distinctive sound prized by folk artists and many blues players. This little Guild has a voice like none other within its class. At approximately half the cost of the comparable Martin instrument the M-120, to my ear, projects better than the Martin and has a sweeter voice. It is a real treat to find that you prefer the more affordable guitar! I have not had a chance to play the new American made Guild M-20, but if it acoustically out performs the M-120 I will be both surprised and more than willing to part with my money. The M-120 is a beautiful guitar, though I might have liked it better without the high gloss finish. The pickup in the M-120E is the Fishman Sonitone, and it is what it is—pretty good, but nothing to write home about. My only complaints about the guitar are: (1) the very high action (mostly caused by a LOT of relief in the neck) when I unboxed the guitar. Guild could do much better with their factory setup; and (2) whereas the GAD version of this guitar shipped with a hardshell case, the Westerly version ships with a polyfoam case. This is not made clear by most dealers, and it is somewhat of a disappointment upon opening the box. Over all assessment: Tremendous recording or small venue guitar for the money... or twice the money.

Comments about Guild M-120E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I won't claim that this is the best guitar for everyone, or that you'll like it as much as I do. But for me, it's the right combination: beautiful full tone, comfortable body size, nice neck, the color (I have the red one), and even the wood scent hit all the right buttons. Nice case, too. And reasonably priced, in my opinion, which is great, since I don't have to live in fear of dinging it on something. The action is slightly high, which is not unusual for a steel-string acoustic, and easily correctable.

I first saw this guitar at a local music shop and was amazed at the build quality, sound and ease of playing, even without a set up, not to mention the price! Just right! Plus a hard shell case! Love it!

Comments about Guild M-120E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a small body, solid mahogany, acoustic/electric, with a neck attached at the 14th fret, that came with a case and wasn't going to cost me too much. My intention was to use it primarily in open tunings with a slide. This fit the bill perfectly. This is a small, solid mahogany, 14 fret, that is really comfortable when playing while seated. Because its so small (something like a 3/4 size) it has a low volume when played without the electrics if you have a light touch but, the Fishman electronics do bring out the volume. It is a budget Fishman package. That's OK because it isn't an too expensive a guitar and it sounds just fine played through my Fender Acoustasonic amp. Others have stated that the base E string doesn't amplify as well as the other strings. I agree. But that's OK with me because I am using this guitar in open tunings and don't use that string much and when I do, I hit it harder which does bring the volume up. I actually raised the action and changed the strings from how it arrived to play slide. Now it's a really fun little slide machine for me. The strings are 1.5 inch at the nut and the nut is 1.75 inch. The strings are 2.17 wide at the saddle. This makes it an easy fingerpicker as well. I am very pleased with the quality of the build. The neck is straight, the fret board is clean, and there are no glue squeeze outs anywhere to be seen. I have 6 other acoustic/electric guitars, most that cost a great deal more than this Guild, and the quality of this Guild compares very well with all of them. The Guild Westerly line provides a nice visual package with the tortoise shell pick guard and Chesterfield headstock emblem. It's really a good looking little guitar. When I become a better slide guitarist, I might spend more money, but for now, this is exactly what I was looking for and at a very fair price. And, I second everything stated in the review from DMR Guitar. He covers it well.

Comments about Guild M-120E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have always wanted a Guild Acoustic and finally took the plunge, purchasing the M120E. Although I already have some Takamine and Gibson acoustics, they are all of the dreadnaught body style and I wanted to go with a concert style for a change. I also wanted to try an acoustic with Mahogany wood (a bit of a darker sound). This is a very nice looking guitar. The body bouts are relatively small, body depth about medium sized, without sacrificing tone. It is very comfortable to hold and play. Also, the neck dimensions make this an easy acoustic guitar to play. The hard-shell case is of a very nice quality and visually appealing, adding to the value.
In some reviews, people criticize the tuners. They may not be the most pretty tuners out there, but my guitar stays in tune, big time. Last time I looked, this is the major job tuners are supposed to handle and these Guild tuners do it quite nicely. On guitars, functional trumps looking pretty, every time!

Only a few negative or cautionary issues and none of these are deal breakers for me..
#1 Like so many acoustics (including the Gibson) the neck action is quite high, from strings to finger-board. The guitar is still quite playable, but a bit tougher to deal with past the 10th fret. Either live with it or remove the bridge saddle and slowly, carefully, thin it down a bit off the bottom using sand paper.
#2 The guitar, when plugged in, has a nice electric sound. However, the Bass E-string does not project as well as the other 5 strings. Even though this is a bit of a disappointment, the guitar, overall is good enough to keep on the acoustic merits alone and I will either change the transducer or the pre-amp in order to see where the problem lies.
#3 The Fishman pre-amp only features a separate volume and tone thumb-wheel which is pretty basic, but provides good overall projection/tone. However, the thumb-wheels are not easy to turn, especially on the fly, so once the settings are made, you're stuck at those levels.
