This guitar is a dirty little secret that I hope stays this way so the price doesn't get jacked up. Personally, it's one of the best guitars i've played. There are no issues with the one I recieved. I only bought it new because there are no dealers or stores where there would be a used one locally. I have had no issues with it other than specific ones that are limited to my own preference. I play with extremely low action and anything lower than about 1/8" will cause some buzz past the 14th fret (which is pretty normal for most guitars w/o trimmed nuts. The neck is thinner and the fretboard is more narrow than most guitars so it was a bit of getting used to. The guitar definately has it's own personality. It is a really sturdy guitar and everything about it is simple and to the point and just begs to be abused. I would love to recommend this to someone but I would prefer if the prices stay where they are for them.

The guitar is very heavy but that is where it gets the incredible tone and sustain. Don't buy it if you are on the frail side.If you want a beautiful, high quality Les Paul style guitar - this is your Baby!
Incredible bite, growl, and sustain! The neck feels just right and is easy to chord and bend strings.
The neck is super strong and the tuners are perfect. Stays in tune! I could not find any cosmetic flaws in the finish or other quality issues in the guitar.
Great value considering the incredible finish and coil taps for tonal selection. The resonator fingerboard works as advertised - super sustain. Extremely well made guitar!

I own an Epiphone Les Paul and by far prefer this guitar over it.

Yes it is made in china but it is well made.I have a Gibson standard as well so I can compare the two of them. My Hagstrom is as well made as the Gibson and looks nicer due to the inlay at the headstock. The neck is very smooth and very fast. The pickups are very well made and the versatility is quite amazing due to the single coil capability. Overall I like my Hagstrom as much as my Gibson and I think that in terms of quality they are equivalent except that the Hagstrom is a fraction of the price of the Gibson. Nevertheless in terms of sound they have a different personality and the Hagstrom is very enjoyable with great versatility with sound on a darker style. If you want to emulate a Gibson, don't, the hagstrom is a guitar of its own that can compete against any American made $2000 guitars

I play for the band Tripping Icarus. I've heard all my life of a guitarists defining sound but never understood it. This guitar gives me a defining sound. It's deep, dark, heavy, but also light and sparkly. You can get any sound you need from it. It came set up, ready to play, I haven't changed a thing but the strings since I bought it.

I traded a few pedals for the Black Super Swede, and when I first opened it, I found the sound that I had been looking for. If you are looking for a Les Paul copy, this is not your guitar. It has a very dark sound, even with 8 and 8.7 ohm pickups, that can be best compared to the British sound. Many people compare the coil tapped sound to that of a Strat, but I think it sounds most like a P-90, because of the metal coil covers. I gave this a 4 for features because the regular Swede has a switch for low and high pass filters, which I really would have liked on this guitar.I gave this a 4.5 for quality because it has a polyurthane coating, which is standard in this price range, but all other features on this guitar are comparable to a reissue strat or les paul class instrument. People often comment on how beautiful this looks, and their eyes light up when they hear how it sounds. The cream coloring is much darker in life than it looks in the picture, and it makes it look very vintage. Overall, this is a fantastic instrument, and very unique.

I have the select super swede in dirty blonde and the guitar is a great value. The coil tap switch is a great feature and lets you switch from bright clean chords to overdrive with the flip of the switch. The pickups are quality so no need to switch them out at all. The guitar is heavy like the LP but are a 25.5 scale line the Strat. Nothing bad to say at all about this guitar. It is made in China but they don't press out as many like the Epi LP. If you are looking for a LP type guitar this one is light years ahead of the EPI no doubt

Hi guys! I have read alot of good reviews on this site and on the Net about this guitar. I was looking for a decent guitar at a reasonable price and thought this fit the bill. I was in a working band 10 years ago but have since 'settled down' - I want to pick up my rocking ways again. The Super Swede sounded and played great when I got it but about a month in I had terrible fret buzz. I had the guitar professionally set-up and some frets resurfaced. It played well for about a week and then the neck started rattling. Must have been a structural defect. Hagstrom was great and sent me a replacement. Immediately I discovered that the volume control for the neck pick-up didn't work. As soon as I manipulated it the sound cut off completely. Additionally, whenever I flipped to the neck position the pick-up had alot of static...like a short-out or something. I am waiting for guitar three. Just wondering if anyone else is having problems or am I just having bad luck. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

This is a very good looking good sounding guitar. The finish is perfect (I have the vintage sunburst). Seems to be a lot of attention to detail. Don't see any flaws in the appearance. Intonation was good right out of the box. I like the neck, good action. Pick ups and coil tap give good variety of tones. Humbuckers are not as meaty as my 1983 Ibanez but it's a good sounding axe. When I started testing the controls I found a problem. The neck pickup volume control didn't work. It was full on only. The bridge control was fine. I'm going to have to send it back for a replacement. If that problem gets fixed. I'd rate it a 5 across the board.

A nice to play guitar with an easy action. Plays jazz and even classical with ease! I have a few fret buzzes but I think these can be solved. However my neck split!! Not knocked at all, just kind of cracked, maybe shrinkage or something. People say they're built like a tank but the thin neck may be vulnerable. Body and finish very nice . Fittings good apart from the coil split switch which is naff compared with the rest. Tone controls do very little on my instrument.

I purchased my super swede about 3 months ago and to say the least, I am very satisfied. Mine is the vintage sunburst and it is beautiful. The neck, mahogany body, and coil splitter are kick a.. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in this price range even close to this guitar. Play one of these, and you will throw rocks at your Epiphone Les Paul. I have been a Fender guy for a long time and was looking for a "thicker" sound. This guitar fit the bill. An added bonus: No one you know has one of these guitars, be an original, buy a Hagstrom. do it
