I purchased one of these a couple of years ago. Recently I purchased a Gibson LP Studio from Musicians Friend, and was so disappointed in the quality and playability compared to the Hagstrom, that I sent the Gibson back.
1. The neck is to die for. It's really that good.
2. The Resonator Fret Board is amazing.
2. I put a Dimarzio Air Norton in the Neck and a Tone Zone in the bridge and it sounds REALLY good.
3. The setup is lower than on any guitar I've owned.
4. It stayed in tune just OK. Put a set of Planet waves locking tuners on it, and a Tone Pro's locking bridge and I can now aggressively bend strings through an entire set of music without it going out of tune.

Build quality is excellent. Mine setup so well that the action is the lowest of my guitars even my high end gibsons. Fretwork was nice, finish and hardware excellent. I cant say enough about this guitar. Upgrade the pickups to some seymour duncan or equivalent and you will a have a pro level instrument. Be aware that the neck profile is very thin on Hagstroms, this is either a pro or a con depending on your style!

I've played a lot of nicer guitars and this is definitely one of the better ones. It sounds very nice clean as well as distorted, the pickups do feel a little weak for my tastes but it still looks and sounds amazing. I have the grey/black maple top which looks really nice with the binding. Overall, I would recommend this guitar to anyone.

I was looking for a prs but wound up getting the ultra swede. As if the looks aren't enough (I have the natural finish), the playability and tone are both incredible!!! I love the small neck. It's great for really wrapping your hand around the fretboard for more control and the Resonator fretboard is the fastest I have ever played. As for the tone, WOW. I use a gibson falcon amp with the tone setting near the middle but a little more toward the bass end. I also use a danelectro fab distortion pedal with the tone all the way on treble. When I play my ultra swede through these I can get ANY tone I please. I usually keep the pickup settings for the tone knob and toggle switch on treble, and it gets me tone very identical to that of Alex Lifeson from Rush, or if you put a little more bass into it you get tone more like Mark Tremonti from Alterbridge. The tone selection for this guitar is unbelievably versatile, making it suitable for all players from blues to metal. The humbuckers can be a little buzzy but that can be fixed with the pickup bypass switch. This guitar has great sustaine too. I use a standard crybaby wah pedal, which never sounded better than when I played it through my ultra swede. I can get really accentuated swells, great for soloing. As far as quality goes it's very comfortable and easy to play. It stays in tune (and intoned) very well. The only problem I have with this guitar is authenticity (it's made in China) but it's quality is uncompromising. For the price, you can't beat it! I strongly recommend the Hagstrom Ultra Swede electric guitar to any guitarist for any style!!! GO HAGSTROM!!!

the hagstrom ultra swede is a solidly built,beautiful guitar.the neck is second to none.stock pickups were a little weak, so i replaced with a seymour duncan hot rod set, and the guitar screams.i would put it up against any gibson i have played.gave it a 4.5 because of the pickups and the coil tap is noisy.i just disconnected it when i installed the duncans.
