OVERVIEW

Fast powerful, and easy on the eyes.

A slender, compact body joined to an ultra-slim neck profiled in a easy “D” shape is combined with the rich and powerful sound of Hagstrom’s Custom 62 pickups. The tone is truly “ultra-licious”, both in humbucking mode and in coil-split mode for single-coil sounds. The Ultra Swede is everything that makes a Hagstrom special combined together in a platform for the 21st century.
The Power and the Glory

Hagstrom’s Custom Ceramic 62 pickups shine in both humbucker and in single-coil mode. A tight and raucous humbucker attack is complemented by a lush and airy single-coil tone when the pickup coils are split.
Ultrathin Neck

Vintage Hagstrom necks were known as the “fastest in the world” and the Ultra Swede easily lives up to this legacy. Its H-Expander™ truss rod, Resinator™ fingerboard, and slim “D” profile provide an ultra-comfortable playing surface that can handle the lowest action settings. Pull the trigger and let those fingers fly.

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a good, solid, decently priced guitar to play instead of my Schecter Limited Gryphon. I didn't want another metalish guitar because of playing at church and such. So I was looking for a Les Paul style for the more middle tones in 'em...then I stumbled across this guitar and it blew my mind. The best guitar I have played hands down. It's quick, solid, and it sounds absolutely outstanding. I put a Screamin Demon in my Schecter for those metal pinches that people love...sadly I wasted the money...the Hagstrom blows it out of the water with stock pickups..I don't even play my Schecter anymore because of the versatility of this guitar. My friend bought a Hellraiser and my Hagstrom Ultra Swede puts it to shame in my book...don't just think about it...DO IT

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I've personally owned the Hagstrom Ultralux UltraSwede Flame for around seven or eight months, first thing you should know is it's truly an amazing instrument capable of more styles then most players would use it for.I'm mainly a metal player but I play more blues and slide guitar then anything else, all of which it handles easily.Neck:forget about how fast it is capable of being played the best part is how smooth and resonant the fretboard is, it feels like nothing I've ever played.I own a Gibson Les Paul standard, Epiphone G 400 SG ,Esp ltd KH-502, and an Epiphone Zakk Wylde Les Paul. The UltraSwede outplays them all.The pickups have a tight crunch thats dark, but with the coil-tap can clean up or shift between several awesome tones.Works well with effects(fuzz, distortion, chorus, etc.)It sounds great through my Vox AC30 and just as good through my solid state Peavey 1/2 stack. Also I play it alot unplugged just practicing and it has a great acoustic quality to it.Stays in tune very well.Great guitar for even triple the price(really).Every Time I pick it up I write another 10 great riffs completely different then what i played when I put it down last.I play it I don't just baby it and look at it on a stand;this is a solid well built, and I truly beleive will last several more decades guitar. If you're thinking about it, stop thinking, just try it out.You will forget about that hot date, you will call into work, you will be hooked...It Is Awesome..

Awesome Guitar

By Scott Morgan

from Undisclosed

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I researched mid range guitars for about a month, after I started gigging in a band. I played mid priced Fender, Epiphone, Gibson, Gretsch, Ibanez, and never could find anything that really hit me as a great buy. After researching the Hagstroms, I took a chance an ordered one, the Ultra Swede, and man, does it really shine. Hands down the best guitar I've played under $500. And it rivals many that cost much more. I really like the coil tap, you can wring out a lot of different tones from this guitar, although, I'd say that it has a somewhat darker tone overall. But the coil tap will let you get some clear ringing sounds. Super Fast neck. Its the perfect rhythm guitar, my bandmates love the tone. The finish is beautiful, very well done. If you are in the market for a great quality guitar that won't set you back over a grand, try a Hagstrom. They Rock!

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I have purchased a spalted maple Ultra Swede and overall I would say it is a very nice guitar and built with a quality level that will last for a long time. For the money I think it is an excellent value but overall a notch below the quality level of the premium brands like Fender or Gibson. The finish is flawless and the veneer top is outstanding. the neck is very fast as they advertise but I have not been able to get "great" action out of it due to buzzing, however it is a little below average. I had 3 issues that needed attention out of the box. The nut slot for the low E was cut too deep and buzzed no matter what. I superglued a sliver of bone in there and recut it and it is fine. The tune-O-matic bridge had all 6 saddles sloping towards the tailpiece so the low E and A strings would not intonate. I removed the 3 lowest saddles and turned them around and the problem is solved. In my opinion both of these should have been caught during the inspection. The last issue I had was the pickups and I did not like the sound of them. The trebles were a bit, not a lot, harsh and the bass a little weak and slightly muddy. I can see how someone else may like them but I usually play clean or just a little dirty and did not think they were very clear. I tried height changes and adjusting the polepiece screws but last weekend I changed them out with a bridge Duncan and a neck Dimarzio, which turned out to be a great combination, by the way, and with minimal adjustment the guitar now sounds terrific. The basswood body generates a lot of sustain giving the axe a very full sound with out the guitar weighing a ton. If it was lost I don't really know if I would replace it or try something new. There's a lot of nice guitars out there.

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for just over a week now and I can tell you that this is a finely crafted instrument. When I first got it I opened the box and was literally blown away by the look of the guitar. It's absolutely beautiful! The burgundy burst is gorgeous! (which was the reason I first noticed this guitar) All the binding is beautiful and nicely done. The fit and finish is fantastic. The fretboard is really nice, and smooth. It reminds me very much of ebony (which I personally love!). Overall, it is a joy to play. I can't really say whether it is a "fast" neck or not because I don't play that fast...yet! I started playing about 32 years ago, and got fairly decent at it, but had a lot of years between the and now that I didn't play. But lately I've gotten the bug again and am back at it full blown. This is another of my recent additions. It's certainly smooth though, and makes it easy and fun to play. And I don't regret it one bit!

The pickups, although not the greatest, are perfectly fine. At the present time I see no need, or want, to replace them. The coil- split is nice but it really reduces the volume, moreso than my two others with coil- split - a Gibson Studio SR and an Epiphone Les Paul custom. My take on that is that it's just a limitation of the pickups. As humbuckers they work great..

The tuning machines, although certainly different, work just fine. This thing holds tune really well. I prefer to look at it this way, they add a small touch of class to the guitar!

So far everything has been perfect., and as it wears in should only get better.

I would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone.

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

This guitar is just incredible for the money... and I'd say that if it cost more, too.The pictures really don't do it justice, which can be said of a lot of guitars on here, true, but the quality of the maple top and the finish is surprisingly good. It's really a striking guitar. the inlay's in the headstock and fretboard though, aren't superb... but in the price range, I've never seen better. What I like most about this thing is it's size and shape. It's a bit smaller than a les paul, much lighter, and with the countour, much more comfortable. The neck is thin, flat, and eminently playable... truly excellent. I was surprised at how well the frets were dressed, too... no snags, no high spots, no buzzing. I'm able to get my action insanely low and still be able to bend notes without fretting out.Since it's made from good tone woods, I figured that I would have a great jumping off point for customizing, and I was right. The stock pickups are actually pretty darn good... they channel some serious PAF tones, and with the coil tap, offer some shockingly useful single coil tones, but I already had plans to put in a Duncan P-rails before I bought it, which is exactly what I did and man, this guitar delivers buckets of tone!!! Extremely versatile instrument. With an on/off/on and a P-rails in both spots, you can get 3 sounds out of each pickup, and then 3 more when combined together for NINE total sounds. And that's with 1 mini switch and 1 3-way toggle. Those pickups, by the way, are friggin incredible.. try 'em out.The hardware's not bad, and will probably more than satisfy most folks, but I plan to replace the tuners and the bridge, ideally for a tone pro's. The stop piece is interesting to look at and, given the small size of the guitar, makes a really comfortable place to park your hand but it hides 6 individual string stops that I took apart and screwed back down a little better for a better string-body connection. I've thought about replacing the stop piece altogether, but honestly, it sounds pretty darn good as it is.For $450, this is a LOT of guitar. I own some really nice stuff, but I keep picking up this one, even over my Axis, because it has so many great sounds and it's so bloody comfortable. I love this thing... great, great guitar.

One of the very best I've ever played

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I was truly blown away by this guitar. When it arrived I had never seen one before in person. My jaw is still dropping every time I look at it hanging on my wall. -mine is vintage burst. The whole thing is bound in pearl - amazing. Tuners are great, stays in tune and sounds wonderful with factory strings [which is unheard of]. Range of sounds is super, sound quality is super. It's just a bit brighter than an 11 pound Les Paul - but very smooth and diverse in tone. These pickups are tops. I was figuring I might drop a set of 57 classics in - not needed. They are fairly hot pickups, but dialing back the volume to 2/3 they reach full output for vintage level and sound great right there. Split coil switch is fine, but I don't know if I'll use it much. The tone when split is actually quite close to full except about half volume. This could be useful sometimes I suppose.I have bought more than a dozen guitars this year alone including from Gibson and Fender. There are a lot of nice guitars out there, but all things considered this is the best piece of work I have ever layed hands on.Did I mention it's light? I was questioning the basswood body - but tone has mojo and sustain is just fine. Sure it's made in ChinaMart, but my specimen is a superb piece of work and a bargain at full retail.

First let me say that I've been playing guitars since Hendrix was alive. I've owned and played just about everything. If you blindfolded me and handed me this axe, I'd guess I was playing a $1,500 - $2,000 guitar. Gorgeous, very, very well made, amazing attention to detail. Unless you just have to have a name up top, grab this guitar now. This is the one you never sell.

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for about 6 to 8 months now, so I'm well-versed enough to write this review. PROS:- Lightweight and ergonomic....FEELS nice- Nice fast neck- Finish and binding is top notch...up there with a PRS- Stock pickups are great as is- Coil tap is a nice extraCONS (IMO only....most may disagree):- Not a fan of the Hagtrom "impreial" style tuners....I hate the feel of them and I don't like the look. I put in some vintage looking Klusons and it looks way better. - The Tuno-matic type bridge was kinda cheap and not helping me with intonation/tuning. I replaced it with a Tonepro bridge...not a problem since.- Not a fan of the Hagstrom Block Stop Tailpiece...I may look at replacing it...but honestly, it WORKS fine...this is asthetic onlyThis has quickly become my number 1 gigging guitar...so lightweight and versatile. Without sounding clich...do yourself a favour and buy this one. I have the blonde...wow.

5 stars for Hagstrom. Zero for MF. Sent me a Jay Turser w/P90's not the Ultra Swede. Same factory makes both but MF should have caught glaring error. Cust svc helped w/return yet entered it as "wrong color" not "wrong guitar" Cust svc kept calling it a Hagstrom. No apology offered for disappointment or hassle. Cancelled my original order. Not likely to buy guitar from MF again.

    Gibson Beware

    By Bradley-aimKf

    from Buffalo NY

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

After being in several bands and using guitars across the spectrum, a girlfriend came along and kept me out of the action. I ended up selling my American Heritage Strat due to lack of use and was convinced my days of shredding were over. 2 years later, the relationship ended, and my passion returned 10 fold. I needed to find a new guitar to inspire my reemergence into the music scene, something I never used before. Something that didn't cost an arm and a leg that appeared and functioned like a high end guitar. After many days of careful research I discovered Hagstrom. This company has a great history, and after having disappeared for 20 some years decided to surface again with some of the best guitars I've laid my hands on.Alas, the Ultra Swede. I was already convinced I was getting a Hag, but I called every local dealer to get their take on which one I should choose. All of them said they purchased the ultra, and claimed it was one of they best axes they've owned.I found a transparent blue beauty and bought it. Indeed it has the super fast neck, the resonator fretboard, the custom 58 Humbuckers. What can I say? I've played pricey Les Paul's and Fenders and Guilds... I just now realized that half the price of any given leading brand guitar is going towards the name alone. Well there is another name to respect in this industry, and its Hagstrom. And Hagstrom is charging a whole lot less.I will be keeping this guitar. I will be buried with it.

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I had a Hag back in the 60's and played in 5 bands with that guitar and loved it. I also had a Gibson and a Fender Strat, but very seldom played them because that super thin, fast neck on my Hag was incredible. I sold it when I went into the Military. That was stupid. Then I heard the Hags were back and so I bought a 201....WOW! Then I decided to buy the 300....WOW! FAT! R&B! However, I noticed that the neck on these models was not as thin as I remembered, but thinner than any others on the market except my for my American Jackson. So, I couldn't wait too try out the Ultra, so I bought one...unbelievable! Now this Hag has that amazingly thin and super fast neck, that you can play for 8 hours without being tired and no sore fingers....gotta love it.

Playing this guitar was finger melting. Seriously - there was such good action that it felt like butter under my fingertips. The tone variations that you can get on this one is just mindblowing - I can get the perfect lead sound, perfect and funky clean, and get a sweet bass for my rhythm section. The pickups it comes with doesn't even need any replacing - this is a fine guitar as it is! I play on buying this guitar once I get my paycheck ... and I can NOT wait!

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

My search for a guitar I could connect to, led me to this Ultra Swede. I have had LP Epiphones and Gibson guitars and didn't really get much enjoyment out them because it was always something. Like pickups sounded muddy, neck didn't feel well, tone wasn't what I wanted and was very heavy. Over this time period of searching I had Gretschs, Epi Wildcat, Teles, Strats, Music Man, PRS etc. I tried them all for a while. Nothing seemed to fit, I did not find what I was looking for. So I was open to suggestions! I had heard from a friend a while ago about Hagstrom. Didn't know anything about guitars or prices. But I researched, and researched. The model I looked at was the Ultra Swede. It was Hagstrom answer to the LP. Here is what I learned, the Ultra Swede was lighter than a LP and a little smaller, has hotter and better sounding clarity pickups than LP, amazing tone, contoured back, one of the best necks and fretboards out there, single coil with a switch instead of push/pull (switch is awesome) and looks beautiful in a burst top, pearloid binding. I actually could go on to more features and this well put together guitar, but you need to play it yourself and open up to a new world in guitars. I bought the guitar and it was a bargain in my opinion with all the enhancements and features, it was priced very well. Unfortunately most stores don't carry the Hagstrom Ultra Swede, but you can order it through Musician's Friend it to see if you like it. I give the Ultra Swede my endorsement for the reasons stated above. Only a minor adjustment out the box, a string change (that helped a lot). So if you are tired of the same old guitars, give this one a chance.

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

I've had the Guitar for a couple of weeks now and I have to say that this is a fantastic Guitar. Due to being busy, I haven't had the time to set it up properly for my preferred string gauge, despite that it was set up quite well out of the box and I don't expect to spend much time getting it spot on.

Looks: The Guitar looks great, the paint job and binding all look nice which adds to the 'I want to play it' feeling you get with a new Guitar.

Plays: It plays and feels great. It has a nice quick neck and I find it very comfortable for rhythm and lead playing alike. I'm not much of a shredder these days but it can easily accommodate my widdly widdly moments.

Tones: I expected to be swapping the pups out straight away but I have found myself liking the ones that it came with. There are a ton of sweet tones available and it does cleans and slightly dirty really well. It also handles high gain much better than I was expecting and you don't have to try very hard to produce squealing pinch harmonics.

Due to its very small body this Guitar is very light, which is great if you have any back issues but it does mean that the neck does have a bit of dive going on. It tends not to drop further than horizontal so it's not really too much of an issue.

Over all, I would highly recommend this guitar. It looks nice, it plays nice and it sounds nice. I would say you get a lot of bang for your buck with this Axe, more so than many more expensive Guitars.

Comments about Hagstrom Ultra Swede Flame Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for the money, in fact it is a great guitar for much more money. It came needing a minor tweaking to my liking but after the setup it plays like a dream. I had an old Hagstrom II many years ago and I recall the neck was extremely fast and comfortable. This new Hagstrom Ultra Swede is every bit as playable and comfortable. It is good to see this company back in the guitar business. Even though this was assembled in China to Hagstrom's specs the workmanship, fit and fittings all seem right with no flaws that I have found after a month of playing it.
