    Hagstrom

A semi-hollow electric with the modern side of vintage.

The Hagstrom Viking IIP Electric Guitar features a double-cutaway semi hollow basswood body, 24-3/4" scale UltraLux bolt-on maple neck, 6-inline headstock and 22-fret Resonator composite fingerboard. Hagstrom's Dynamic H90 soapbar pickups deliver warm vintage tones that are edgy and have attitude. The original Hagstrom Viking semi-hollow body electric guitar was made famous in 1968 by the king himself: Elvis Presley!

    Revolutionary Neck Design

The Viking IIP guitar and all other Hagstrom electric guitars include the patented H-Expander Truss Rod. Providing tension at either end and running the entire length of the neck, the rigid yet lightweight alloy truss rod allows for a very low action and thin neck, two factors that were instrumental in earning Hagstrom its reputation as the world's fastest playing guitar. The fretboard is made from Hagstrom's own Resinator Wood, a composite wood that is homogeneous in nature and is more stable than any standard wood product. It is the perfect fingerboard material in that it eliminates wolf tones or hot spots, and it has an articulate sound like high quality ebony, but without the problems associated with Ebony.

    Custom Hardware

With unique aesthetics and ensuring accurate tuning, Hagstrom's exclusive 18:1 gear ratio machine heads are featured on all electric models. The Hagstom Viking IIP guitars feature the Self-lubricating Graphite Composite Nut that further ensures increased sustain and vibration through improved transfer of energy to the neck.

    Select Materials

Hagstrom used only the finest select tone woods and figured wood stocks on the Hagstrom Viking IIP to enhance its sound and beauty. Carefully selected hard tropical mahogany tone woods are used on the body to produce a powerful and warm sound, and North American hard rock maple provides a bright articulate tone.

    Jaw-Dropping Finish

The Hagstrom Viking IIP guitar features a high-grade polyester finish, which is much harder, smoother and denser while also producing much better sonic performance than polyurethane finishes used by other guitar companies.

Since 1958, Hagstrom has been combining acclaimed design with premium materials, unique hardware, and innovative manufacturing techniques to create these magnificent guitars known among guitarists for their playability, beauty, and durability.

What a great guitar ....I go by sound,,,and this baby has great sound ...smooth ..growl...or twang. You can hear the distinctive sound of a good guitar....it is a undiscovered gem......Elvis and Al Casey were right this guitar rocks
The neck is fast the look is cool. The headstock is a beaut. The only complaint they should put bigger dots on the side......sound of p90. Pups is really surprising. You get creamy sound. Twangy sound. Or crunch with ease..thanks for the good quality right priced guitar hagstrom way to go

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2P Electric Guitar:

I've had a similar experience as the previous review.

My order was for a vintage sunburst and I received the cherry burst. I wasn't disappointed! The guitar looks great!! I did not send it back.

I was very pleased with the action and the feel of the neck right out of the box! Very easy and fast playing neck! Sound great too!

The only negitive thing I want to mention are the sharp fret ends... Which is not a big deal if you have the tools and the time. I have the tools but I don't have the time... So, I have another project guitar....

In conclusion,it's a great guitar at a great price.

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2P Electric Guitar:

Got this on Facebook deal of the day. Great price but they sent me a Cherry Sunburst instead of the advertised Vintage Sunburst. Sent it back and they sent me another Cherry Sunburst. Both boxes were marked Antique Sunburst. Sorry, no Antique Sunburst. I didn't let that spoil the fun though. This guitar looks nice and once set up, plays nice too.
I have an original 1967 Viking hollow body. This is nothing like that one. The 2P is a semi-hollow so it's heavier. The body and finish on the original is nicer than the 2P. I prefer the classy, old style f-holes on the original. The biggest difference between the two, however, is the neck. The original has a super-thin, super-fast, D-shaped neck. The 2P is much bulkier with more of a C profile. The frets on the 2P are sharp at the ends. This is the reason I dinged it one star.
After working out the intonation and action on the 2P I found myself enjoying this guitar more with every moment I played. The two P90s have a rich, clear tone that stomps the single coils on my '67 in every way. Crisp and clear at the bridge, jazzy at the neck, and nice rhythm voicing with both. It doesn't have the growl of a set of humbuckers but it's got a nice punch.
Without comparing it to an original Hagstrom, this guitar is very nice and should meet, or exceed, your expectations. It did with me, even after my initial disappointments.

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2P Electric Guitar:

An all around fantastic guitar. The guitar has an extremely unique tone given its unusual combination P90 pickups and Semi-hollow construction. The tone is very clear and pronounced while retaining a powerful sound. The best way to describe it would be the Gretsch sound on steroids. The only slight downside to this guitar is its tendency feedback when played with gain. Although, The feedback produced by this guitar is quite musical, similar to the feedback produced by an Epiphone Casino. The guitar neck is quite uncommon for the type of guitar its attached to. It has thin neck with a wide nut width. This gives this guitar essentially a shredder friendly neck on a traditional,335 body. A great guitar for those wanting unique features and a traditional look.

          Great guitar with minor problems

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2P Electric Guitar:

First, this guitar is the best guitar I've owned. Better than my $1000 strat. I got it very cheap off ebay and fell in love the second it arrived at my house. It looks absolutely gorgeous, I always get questions and compliments about it. The pickups sound fantastic in this. They have the bark and growl of a good les paul when you need them to but they can also chime and twang like a strat. The guitar has a lot of character and it has fit every style of music I've put to it except for very heavy metal. The only problems I've had with it involve the neck pup's volume pot. I think it's either a bad wire or some dirt in the pot. At any rate every so often it will cut out. It's a pretty quick fix, I just switch from neck to bridge and back and it works again. More good things about this guitar:not a single dead fretvolume and tone knobs are very responsive pickups complimentlightweightbalancedvery controlled feedback for a semihollowmost important - comfortableGet this guitar now

          Hagstrom Viking IIP

          By SenathDavid 1943

          from Near Snake Lake (Reelfoot)

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2P Electric Guitar:

I received my Hagstrom about 2 weeks ago from MF. It is a thing of beauty. I can't find a finish flaw. I love the tone and sustain that it is capable of. I really like the guitar. The negatives are: there was a radical convex bend in the neck which required truss rod adjustment before I could play it. The strings were junk (I am accustomed to getting junk strings on new guitars). The edges of the frets need dressing, they are sharp. The tone adjustment controls require attentive listening to, to tell the difference between full on and off.I would love to give this instrument all fives, but for the price, it should have come set up and the frets dressed.

          I love my Hags,

          By StampedeMan

          from the high desert, AZ.

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2P Electric Guitar:

I love my Hags, and I have 3 different Hagstrom models to prove it and they are all keepers. I have a Ultra XL-5(a super shredder), a drop dead gorgeous Select Super Swede, and my new Viking IIP( I've had it for a couple months, now). My Vlking is in the Cream Red finish(a wierd kinda pinkish shade of red, but my dealer gave me a great price on it as a reward for being a repeat customer). As with my other Hags the fit and finish is flawless and I have had zero negative issues with my Hags. The Viking IIP is a unique guitar with the semi hallow body and a bolt on UltraLux neck(so thin,so comfortable, and so fast playing) The Viking has a nice warm acoustic tone unplugged. But plugged into a good tube amp (mine is a Bugera BC30-212)the H-90(P-90's) pickups come alive, they will sing you a lullaby or crank up the volume and gain, throw in a good dose of reverb and they will punch you in the gut and slap you up side the skull. So in closing, I think the Viking IIP is a very versatile guitar that would fit into all kinds of genres of music. Try one out, in my opinion there is no better bang for the buck guitars out there, than a Hagstrom!
