OVERVIEW

Enter a true Scandinavian warrior.

Right next to its solid body siblings Swede and Super Swede, the Viking is the undisputed all-time classic of the Hagstrom guitar range. Being the proverbial best-seller, it is simply one of the finest and affordable semi-hollow guitars in its genre and the marketplace. The meticulous craftsmanship with press laminated maple body, solid centerpiece sustain block and a set neck made from hard maple, it churns out sounds as diverse as they come. The prominent, yet not too hot, output of the HJ50 humbuckers, delivers a sonic palette as broad as blues, rock, jazz fusion or 60's Beat. You can even take it on a shred spin.

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2X HJ50 Electric Guitar:

H shaped truss rod means straight neck always, fit and finish are perfect, the hardware flawlessly plated. Pickups are loud and very clear, great tuning stability even in Florida humidity. This is number nine Hagstrom in my collection, you cant go wrong with a Hagstrom, they will be a guitar that lasts generations. My oldest is a 1971 Swede and the neck is as straight as this 2015 Viking. I have been playing Hagstrom since 1984, 31 years.

Comments about Hagstrom Viking 2X HJ50 Electric Guitar:

I am primarily an acoustic guitar player. I have been looking a long time for an electric that would be flexible enough to fit my needs and playing style. A semi-hollow body electric seemed the best fit for me. After looking at many options, everything from a Gibson, Epiphone, Yamaha, Ibanez, Gretsch, to PRS, Carvin and more, I was at a loss as to the right one for me. A friend of mine has a wonderful Yamaha AES1500 that is super-sweet, but they are a bit difficult to find. Playing it and hearing him play it really helped steer me in that direction. I wanted something similar. Additionally, I didn't have a large budget to work with, so that narrowed down my choices away from some of the better known guitars in this class. Step-in Musician's Friend and their Sales Promotion Emails. I usually just skim through them to see if anything catches my eye or to see if something that is on my current want/need list is on-sale. A couple weeks ago I was skimming one-such email promotional and this Semi-hollow body Hagstrom Viking Deluxe Custom caught my attention. I'd actually never heard of them, but thought it worth checking out. I have a tendency to like things that are NOT mainstream, hidden jewels you might say. Brand names don't necessarily mean that much to me and I have found good quality is not restricted only to that which is well-known. That Yamaha AES1500 of my friends is a great example. It is not as well known as a Gibson Memphis, but it looks and sounds stellar. This Hagstrom seems to be one of those hidden gems also. I know it is manufactured in China, but the build quality is top-notch and the Hagstrom design specs are just right on for me. The only thing I can find on the guitar that may need some modification at some point is the tone controls. They have a small effect for over half their travel and then tend to drop off a little quickly once you get to the bass end. They are not bad, but changing the capacitor might improve them. This is just a great guitar.
