Comments about Hofner HC Chancellor Electric Guitar:
The Hofner Chancellor isn?t a typical sounding archtop. I also play a Gibson ES-175 and a Gretsch Country Club (non-Bigsby), out of which one gets the more traditional jazz tones. The Chancellor, however, sounds nothing like either. With the tone open, the Chancellor is very responsive, with an almost woody sound. With the tone rolled all the way down, it gets as buttery as movie theater popcorn while still retaining its punch, so even single note lines still pop through. It never gets muddy. It has good sustain. It had some ?wolf? notes when I first got it, but those have since disappeared. You need to play spruce tops in a bit. Acoustically, it has good volume. I set the action on mine high, but it still plays easy.Aesthetically, the craftsmanship is top notch. With the exception of the pickup ring, there?s not a piece of plastic on it: ebony tuners, wood binding, and matte finish metal knobs.Look elsewhere for a traditional jazz box, but if you want something unique, this is it!
