The semi-hollow that plays like a solid or hollowbody.
Celebrated for its flexibility and broad tonal palette, this Hofner semi-hollowbody can portray the subdued warmth of a full hollowbody, the bright and primary hues of a solidbody, or just about any shade of tone in between.
It has a much smaller, thinner body profile than conventional semi-hollowbody guitars. In addition, the Verythin employs a hand-fitted solid spruce sustain block that does not use tone bars. These features reduce the potential for feedback and accentuate the tonal punch and attack while preserving the guitar's acoustic qualities.
The current version of the Verythin Standard updates the original 1960 Hofner design with contemporary features: top-shelf humbucking pickups, Schaller tuners, and Schaller bridge and tailpiece. With its slender body crafted of highly flamed maple, it is a beauty to behold. Its design and special features liberate guitarists from the volume and style constraints of ordinary semi-hollowbody guitars.

It does not handle overdrive as well as Hofner leads on but I find when i use pedals on my clean channel and not my overdriven tubes I can crank it up a bit without too much feedback. The neck is wide. I bought this because i wanted a hollowbody but gibson necks are too narrow and short, and i wanted something different, nobody has seen this guitar before it seems, they say "Hofner??" and i say "yah like the beatle bass..handmade in Germany" The pickups are bigger than in the picture website provides. Hofner started using full sized humbuckers so you can swap them out if you want without taking a dremle to the holes..but i love hofners pickups. They have a real personality. Hofner also started putting mahagony sustain blocks in this model which would sound a litte differt and not as bright, I think that woill be an improvment. But if you buy it you may get the spuce block inside... A hofner rep i talked to told me that.
The Hofner verythin standard is a very versatile guitar. The features are just right; two tone, two volume, the ability to go into "single coil mode," which is, essentially, a way to make the humbuckers get punchier tones, like a hum-free single coil. VERY HAPPY about that. It is light, and it is like playing a work of art. Hofner takes this guitar seriously, and that is obvious in every detail about this guitar.
I have a 2005 model handcrafted in Germany that I purchased used. This guitar has rich and balanced tone, and incredible sustain. It appears to have Hofner's equivalent to the "Memphis circuit", so you can roll the volume down without it getting muddy. This guitar will give you tones that will range from fat Telecaster to a full on Jazz box. Like all semi hollows, it can feed back. If you are considering an ES 335, you owe it to yourself to check this guitar out first. This is the equivalent to a Memphis Custom in quality, and check that price out!
