I've been playing guitar for 10 years and got this guitar as a Christmas present. I picked it myself reading and comparing with many other acoustics. My main priority is I wanted something that would great for recording but possibly also for live use down the road. This guitar does it all. It's buit in recording device works excellent. The guitar looks and plays good and can easily compete with anything in the price range.

I was comparing this with an Ovation acoustic electric guitar. I picked Ibanez. What's nice about this guitar vs. an Ovataion is it's still a legit acoustic guitar. Ovation's have a wierd, bowl shaped body are nowhere as loud as this thing is. Yes, it's a cutaway and it's not as loud as a full body guitar but it's definitely more rich and louder than an Ovation.

I love this guitar and I'm going to keep it for a lifetime! It does have minor flaws I have found over this past month of owning it. The recording device for amplification isn't perfect. Sometimes it's hard for me to find that perfect sound with it. Yes, there is some very very minor buzzing at times but it's easily tolerable and honestly most acoustics you play alot on get a little buzz. The body and paint scratches and knicks easily but that's normal. Other than those very minor setbacks, this guitar rocks. It's easy to play on, sounds great, has great tuners, looks good, and is fun to play on. What else do you need other than that?
This guitar features everything an normal acoustic would. What make it's special though is the built in recording/tuning device. This device works exceptionally well and even includes a phase button to cut out on feedback when you play loud in an amplifier. The recorder works great and can dramtically change the sound. I've recorded with it and I find the perfect sound is something in the mid range, but if you like to play different styles of music maybe you would like a brighter sound and turn up the treble for example.
This is a high quality guitar. The body is solid and comfortable to play on, the neck feels slick, the headstock and paintjob is beautiful and the tuners are amazing. I'm blown away by the tuners more than anything, they are very precise, more so than the Grovers on my electric Schecter guitar! I have the Vintage Violin finish and it is beautiful. Personally I think the blue and red looks silly on an acoustic. Whatever color you pick, I recommend going on Youtube and watching videos. Not only can you hear the guitar but you can better wee what the colors look like, because the Vintage Violin looks 10x better in person than in the picture.
This guitar is a real bang for the buck. Honestly, it's going to be hard to top it sound even at a higher price range.I've sat down and played dozens of acoustics. Ibanez, Gibson, Martin, Taylor, Epiphone, and many others at a local music store. I would say for the price range, this is guitar is perfect, yo ureally don't need to drop big bucks on anything more than this especially if you're a hobbyist. If you want that true, devine acoustic sound with a one of a kind lifetime guitar, yes, a more expensive Martin is going to sound better. But personally I don't see myself ever spending that much on an acoustic, I think this Ibanez is perfect and I am more than satisfied with the sound and playability.

Two things you should know before deciding on this guitar.

    1. It is pretty easy to play, and has a balanced tone.

    2. It is made of maple which can take years to mellow out and is initially way too bright. The sound out of the box will most likely sound a little hollow and tinny to you compared to other guitars made from rosewood, mahogany, or spruce. Give it time. A friend has this exact model that is 5 years old and sounds much richer than the new one I have.

I bought this to supplement or replace the Takamine EF361EC I own and there is no comparison. The Takamine is 20 years old and much richer sounding. Still, this Ibanez is easier to play.
Very good build quality; solid fit and finish.
For the price you could do a LOT worse.

    Fantastic Guitar

Comments about Ibanez AEL20ENT Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing this guitar for almost five years now. I bought mine in April of 2008 through my brother-in-law who is a guitar teacher and owns a guitar shop.
I have the transparent blue which is much much darker in person.
The tone of the guitar is amazing, as is the playability. I played an entire album with it back in 2008-2009 and I'm currently working on a new album using this guitar for a large number of songs. It holds up great, the fretboard is smooth and the tone is very rich. Much richer than you would expect from a guitar of this price. Ibanez, in my opinion, makes the best acoustic-electric guitars in this price-range.
I think a lot of musicians underestimate Ibanez.
No matter how many guitars I own in the future I will always make use of this one.
It's a great priced, very good instrument.
Don't hesitate on this one. You will not be disappointed.

Comments about Ibanez AEL20ENT Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The picture of the guitar shows light blue / turqoise color rimmed in dark stain. The guitar received is 100% navy blue and black at-a-glance. The wood grain is not visible further away than 4 inches.
The built-in tuner works, but does not seem stable i.e. you can hear the tone go sharp and the tuner continues to advise is flat, then immediately tuner says sharp and says detune. Finding the pitch & green light is annoying.

Overall, excellent purchase despite these minor complaints. I'd highly recommend, fantastic sound and playability.

I bought this guitar about 4 years ago. And its still my baby. It still looks gorgeous and I can't say ive been trying to keep in in perfect conditions and yet it is. The electrics work great, the built in tuner saves a lot of time, and the sound is angelic. I couldn't live without my baby, buy it.

Comments about Ibanez AEL20ENT Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Good, better than average to start with; it an incredible instrument now.
This is a review update, Since I've now owned the guitar 8 years now. I've progressed to a performing musician with our church's praise group and although I've been quite happy with the guitar a few issues are worth mentioning.
The preamp crapped out a year ago and I had some problems with the tuning machines, Also Since changeing my string preference from Nanowebs (or Polywebs: I can't remember which); to Dean Markley Blue steel lights; the guitar was a bit buzzy when playing barre chords. I took the guitar to a good luthier in Miami and had him install Planet Wave's high ratio locking tuners and the new Fishman Onboard preamp which included a fantastic piezo pickup. Some cutting and rewiring was needed but I assure you; I have a guitar than sounds as good if not better than my teachers Taylor and even does a convincing job of impersonating her graphite Rainsong (100's of downloadable images avail). I replaced the bridge pegs with high quality "Tusq" pins. The Luthier did a careful setup and there is no buzz at all and the action seems impossibly low! Everyone laughed at me at my local shop for dumping so much $ into a $400 guitar. After hearing it and playing it they just scratch their heads in disbelief; it a one- of-a-kind. I look at it like this: for $1000 I have a guitar that's worth more to me than a $5000 dollar guitar would be.
Well Built for a Chinese Axe; Always stayed in tune between use regarless of enviromentals. Fit & Finish way above average for this kind of money. I had to replace machines and electronics after 7 years of rigorous use. Recently I signifigantly upgraded the guitar.
Great Value, best deal I've seen.

    Great, well crafted guitar

Comments about Ibanez AEL20ENT Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Like I said, right out of the package and it's been smooth picking. Great action, the pickup system can take you to a deep full sound or like your playing in a can, it has a very widel range. The 1/4' and mic imput are nice and tight.
Yes, I give it a 10 for the price and the outstanding craftsmenship. The Finish is perfect in every detail.
Straight out of the package, tuned it up, very good action, no problems found,
    great for the price

    Never use it

    By RICHARD YOUNG

Comments about Ibanez AEL20ENT Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have tried this guitar with and without an amp. I am just not impressed with this guitar. It is pretty to look at but as far as playing it I am not impressed.
I am not a full time musician but I do love to play guitar.
I bought this guitar (AEL20E-Red) with high expectations after reading the favorable reviews. I am somewhat disappointed. The action was terrible and I will probably take it somewhere and get a setup done on it. As far as sound it is fairly good both acoustically and plugged in. I have a Big Baby Taylor that I reach for instead of this guitar. It sounds a lot better than this guitar. I must admit that I had to have the action set on the Big Baby also. I will try to write another review after set-up if it makes a difference in my opinion of this guitar.
Quality seems to be average. The finish is very vulnerable to scratches, even with a cloth rag.
I believe this guitar is over priced. It doesn't come with a case and without one it isn't worth the price.

review after a year of ownership

    By Codyyyyyyyo

    from Alabama

Comments about Ibanez AEL20ENT Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I would say this is a good, higher end beginners guitar. Ive owned it for almost 2 years now and have played it nearly every day. However I get horrible fret buzz in and around the 5th fret. I took it to my local repair man and he did all that he could. He fixed most of it except the frequency of A. Anywhere on the fret board you play an A note you get a lurid buzz. He tried everything to fix it, but it is one of those situations where it can only be fixed to the extent of the quality it was built with. Some people may not mind it, but it drives me right up the wall. You might as well start clawing a chalk board. As far as tone goes it is nothing special. It wont turn any heads or anything. It depends mostly on the hands that are holding it. I remember all the highs sounding atrocious until I got it set up the first time. The electronics are awesome. I give it a 10/10 in this area. The tuner is spot on.Of course this guitar is absolutely beautiful. It will turn heads as far as looks go. I have the violin and the picture here looks nothing like the real thing. It is much brighter in person. All in all this has been a faithful guitar. I will probably keep it forever since it is the guitar I learned with. For the price it is a pretty good value. You could fork out another $200 though and get a low-end Martin or Epi and be much more satisfied. I mean, you get what you pay for when it comes to guitars; I learned this lesson the hard way. Its pretty obvious though that the Chinese operate under the philosophy of quantity over quality. If you are just starting out or just want a guitar to beat up on this is the one. Ive heard worse and Ive heard better.
