Nothing sounds or plays like a full-hollow jazz box.

The Ibanez AF125 Electric Guitar is a true full-hollowbody guitar with no soundblock. With ARTEC Super58 Custom humbuckers combined with an arched top to give you smooth, hefty tone. Quilted maple body, bound rosewood fretboard with 22 large frets, bound top, and bound F-holes provide lush looks accented by the pickguard that matches the body and mother-of-pearl/abalone block inlays. Set five-piece maple/walnut laminate neck and gold hardware.

The AF is one of Ibanez's most traditional full-acoustic lines with a large full-hollowbody that's truly full-hollow. Unlike many so-called "full acoustics" that feature soundblocks in the body, all Ibanez full acoustic guitars are completely full-hollow for the rich, complex tones you can only get from a true, full-hollow guitar.

    Very nice guitar

Comments about Ibanez AF125 Electric Guitar:

I'm not sure what Ibanez had in mind when the put this ax together. Perhaps they were hoping the ART-125 would be more of a versitile instrument. It comes with a metal tune-o-matic style bridge, this, round-wound strings, and a nut with slots set up for a typical solid body electric. I happen to own a late 40's Gibson 350, & its neck is the same width as the 125. However, the string slots on the 350's nut were more widely spaced apart. Soooooooooo, I put in a new nut, installed the optional wood bridge (fantastic that the guitar comes with two bridges!), and put on flat wound strings. Presto! Much improved. This is just not really a rock or blues ax. Why they try to make it out to be both is perplexing, except that they are likely trying to get more people to buy it. You can fool some of the people some of the time......

I've read other reviews of the Artcore series and some people have felt that the pickups are just so-so. But I've found the pickups to be excellent. Clear, balanced, rich. No problems at all - and it records very well. Intonation is fine.

The high, or shallow cutaway is, perhaps (after the nut & string-spacing issues), the guitar's worst feature. It's more challenging to play above the 15th fret than, I think, it might have been, but that's how they designed it. I also miss the deeper body that full sized jazz boxes have, though it's very comfortable to play.

Yeah, I'd love to have a new, hand-made (expensive) "jazz" guitar that's got a solid top. I think my old ES-350 (also a plywood guitar) plays and sounds better, but it's 60 years old, and has some issues.... The ART-125 is an excellent, relatively low-cost substitute.
Well let's not get carried away.... this is a very nice guitar. However, it comes oddly set up for what it really is. A jazz box! It has a relatively shallow cutaway, and thin body. It's just not some expensive beauty.
The workmanship is impressive. It's kind of odd how the Chinese are able to put such beautiful ornamentation on their guitars, when the US makers have always charged a fortune for the more elaborate inlays and finishes. Guess they got some pretty fancy machines there in the East... This still is a plywood guitar and, unamplified, it's pretty dull sounding. However, I do think the pickups are quite good. Overall, it's a beautiful guitar, though the flamed-maple top seems to be not quite as nice as some high end guitars I've seen, but perhaps that's just apples & oranges....
For a the price, it's a great Jazz style guitar that can be taken out & played without worrying too much if it were to get damaged or stolen. No need to gig with the old L-5 anymore!

Comments about Ibanez AF125 Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar. It plays soo smooth. Do yourself a favor and get nano web jazz strings. And a good amp. I actually switch up between jazz blues and like old school classic rock sound. This guitar handles it all. The clean tones on this are amazing. Would take this over a two thousand dollar guitar any day

Comments about Ibanez AF125 Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar primarily for use in my jazz band, and I couldn't be happier with it. It looks very nice, and the abalone shines beautifully in light. The rosewood knobs are a nice touch. With the original pickup heights and metal bridge, the guitar was a bit bright sounding, but after lowering the pickups and putting on the rosewood bridge, it sounded great.I also use it in a few songs with my jam band, but this guitar sounds much better for jazz.

Comments about Ibanez AF125 Electric Guitar:

For less than a grand you get a well made, playable, great sounding axe, that is great to look at and will get many compliments. This is my second Artcore, and am sold on their value and quality. My only minor nitpick is with the rosewood control knobs having only one reference dot. Being a beginner, I frquently lose my place, but only when moving around. I am also baffled why they ship these guitars with that annoying piece of styrofoam under the floating bridge. Obviously an anti scuff measure, but it means you'll need to remove the bridge, remove the styrofoam, reinstall, and re-adjust the bridge and action before you can play it. Minor hassle if you know how to do it, could be discouraging for someone new, or not willing or able to let a pro do it. You won't feel like you wasted your cash with this guitar!
