Better than a les paul in every way. It sounds better plays better and feels better. The tuning machines are fine and very stable even with aggressive string-bending. The bridge feels smooth, allows muting and is rock solid. The tail piece does not move. Let's dispel a myth: there is no such thing as a "fast"neck. You either can play fast or you can't. The dimensions of the neck have nothing to do with speed. Usually, those who use the term "fast neck" have weak hands and poor technique and they don't know what they are talking about. The fact is; this neck is a bit wider and thicker which is a good thing. The three piece construction makes the neck more stable, which means you can adjust the action lower without it warping or buzzing. One piece necks are inferior to laminated necks for that reason. The width of this neck allows easier chording and clear soloing, assuming your technique isn't flawed and you are not a limp wristed wanker. The large radius allows clear buzz-free bends. The jumbo frets are nice for bending strings too. For this money, you can't do any better. The only complaint I can possibly think of is the location of the selector switch. I prefer them on the upper bout like a Les Paul, but that's because I'm just used to that on all my old Pauls.Really, this is a classic design with improved features over the gibsons and a far better value. You can ignore anyone who gripes about a "slow neck" simply because there is no such thing. That's like saying a "fast potato" or a "slow spoon."

I purchased this guitar based off of it's features and it's looks. I think this is a beautiful guitar though I found the quilt top to be very dark in person, you really need to look for the quilt pattern. The finish on the body and binding was very nice however the finish on the hardware specifically the pickup rings left a lot to be desired. The guitar arrived and it was exactly what I ordered but upon taking it out of the package I found the B string broken. After playing it for about 30 minutes I noticed that the bridge pickup had let go on one side. After replacing the strings and dismantling the pickup I found the threaded insert pulled out of the pickup. The pickup sound was not a complaint though. They are not as nice as a decent set of EMG's or Seymours but they are nicer than most lower end stock pickups. In spite of all the problems I am still giving the guitar a nice review, it played well and there was no buzzing to speak of except when I started to get aggressive with my strumming. All in all I would recomend this guitar, it is very solid and I am chalking up the problems I had to just bad luck. Finally this guitar was nicknamed the tank with in 10 minutes of owning it. It is very heavy but with that being said the sustain can not be beat.

Awesome Tone, solid guitar

By Samsquanch

from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Pros

  • Active Pickups
  • Jumbo Frets
  • Solid and durable
  • Tone And Sustain
  • Tone And Sustaine

Cons

  • Weight

Best Uses

  • Black MEtal
  • Metal
  • Sustaine

This guitar is awesome I have had mine for 3 years now. The neck even though its a standard neck is pretty fast. The tone and sustain is nuts. I put in some Seymour Duncan Blackouts and this thing purrs. I mainly use this for black metal and you can tremelo pick so fast on this and the action and response is perfect. Never played a nicer guitar.

Very Nice Guitar!

By Craig Rebo

from Texas

well balanced, pickups are good, tuners stay in tune nothing bad to say!
I picked up a damaged one and had do a little work on it re-mounting the bridge pickup. once i got it back together all was well. Really nice guitar for the money! quality tuners/bridge/tail piece. love the 3 piece neck. like all new guitars and can be made to play great with a little setup work.

inlays on mine are beautiful! very well done! nice feel to it, reminds me of a cross between a les paul and a PRS. Pickups are pretty good too, sounds nice through my JCM 2000 DSL. Ive read some knocks against the knobs. but i kind of like them! Thing is dead quiet, grounded good and balanced.

nothing but good things to say about this guitar!
I was shocked at the quality of this guitar to be honest! Have never seen one this nice come out of China... totally blows away some of the other brands I have tried. Ive read some reviews about the inlays and fret borad not being quite done, but mine is flawless!
for me it was a fantastic value, got mine for well under the list price with only minor work needed to fix it.

Wow what an Axe!

By Edward Mills

from Florida USA

The value for the price is IMHO unsurpassed. A setup and some new pickup and you really have a screamer. I had to watch Sachmo tonight to get an idea of how it might sound!
A mix of great stuff and some not-so-great.. Mostly great though!
The rubber knobs seem a bit cheesy. The abalone-look inlays are elegant. The quilt-finish is among the best I've ever seen. Amazing depth and gloss. The tuners are precise and look greatThe pickups seem a bit muddy. My Prophecy EX is much clearer. They are probably will be the first things I replace. The setup was good. A bit high on the bridge end, might need some work. The trans back has a VERY nice finish. IMHO its absolutely beautiful. The trans black has a deep black lusterous finish. Nice inlays on body and fredboard.

Also this guitar is VERY heavy- reminds me of the old pre-chambered LP Studios. Me? I LIKE heavy since I'm most often seated. It adds stability.
At the current $ sale I don't think you can loose. You can play this 5 years and likely sell it used for that! Expecially if Ibanez doesn't make a 700 but they probably will.

I wanted to love it

By IbyLover113

from Colorado

First let me say that I am a huge Iby fan. 7Axes, 7 Ibanez. I bought the ART320 about a year ago and love it. When the 600 came out I had to have one. First thing I noticed was the weight. It's heavy. Has some great features that I would like to see Ibanez use on more guitars. The auto trim feature is sweet. At first I thought it was going to be a huge problem with tuning but it was my favorite feature on the guitar. I don't know why but the 600 did not feel anything like the 320. The neck felt fat, wide, and slow. Considering that it's basically the same as the 320 dimension wise, I was surprised that it felt so different. I played it for 30 days and just couldn't get used to it. This is just my opinion and many people love it. It's just not the one for me.

underwhelmed

I bought one of these sight unseen based off all these great reviews, and felt like I need to add my 02 cents. Everything about this guitar is on target in it's price range except for the fretboard. Mine is rough like the factory never sanded it smooth during construction. The frets also were not smooth. The inlays, yep they were rough as well. It's a shame because it's a nice guitar otherwise. I am an Ibanez fan and wanted to try out something different from them, but I think a new S series is in my future. Never had any issues with a wizard neck.

Soft and Hard

By TremHeadR34

from Vancouver, B.C.

Absolutely wonderful guitar, i cant put it down! I recently bought this guitar and i love it, the pickups are way high output which is great for rock to metal to death metal tones. Seeing as they are high output you have to roll back on the volume a bit if you want a nice clean sound. When you do, the clean is wonderful. Being active they are good for anything. The neck is really comfortable and playable, the body looks awsome (i have the transparent black finish) and the bridge not only is great, it feels great. Wonderful guitar from clean to metal (btw the specs say its a 5-way blade switch, but its actually a 3-way toggle. bridge/bridge-neck/neck) I suggest this to guitarists of any play level. it is awesome!
