Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF71F Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is a fabulous guitar for the price. It is well made with a solid feel and light as a feather, with a very playable neck. Funky jazz chords and their extensions are easily achieved without having to reposition your hand. Finger-style enthusiasts will find much to like here. (You should plan on using your pinky a lot.) But... This isn't a guitar for someone with big hands. The neck is very narrow at the nut which makes it a dream to play if you have small hands. (The 50's profile neck on my Les Paul seems like a 2x4 in comparison.) The single mini-humbucking pickup has a nice tonal range with some surprising punch. If you're looking for that classic 1940's jazz guitar sound, you will want to turn the tone almost completely down. (The guitar comes strung with .009 gauge round wound strings and are a bit too bright.) The slots in the nut look like they can handle heavier gauge strings without having to do any modifications so I plan to install a set of flatwound strings. The tuning keys are smooth and responsive. After 35 years of playing Les Pauls, Teles and Strats, the one thing here that will take some getting used to is the bridge assembly. It is held in place by the strings and can be moved if you have an aggressive strumming style or if you rest your hand on the bridge a lot. The Ibanez Artcore line enjoys a well-deserved reputation for affordable quality and this, their latest offering, only furthers that reputation. The fully bound body and neck, and the block inlays on the neck, add a nice classy touch that makes the guitar look like it costs more than it does. It was set up nicely coming out of the box but I used the wheels on the bridge to slightly lower the strings and improve the action. [One bit of advice: The guitar comes with a small piece of plastic foam between the bridge and the body to protect the body in shipment. Before loosening the strings to lift the bridge and remove this padding, first use some painters' masking tape to outline the placed position of the bridge.]
