I just produced the new Karen Elyse - Matters Of The Heart CD and I use this guitar on many of the tracks. There is a snipet video of on youtube of one of the takes, I could say a lot of things but seeing the guitar in action speaks volumes.

I've endoresed a lot of guitars over my more than 30 years of professional play, with everyone from Brian McKnight to Brian Auger and I haven't purchased a guitar for 20 years and I bought this one which pretty much says it all.

If you are looking a quality instrument and you don't want to spend $4,000 or more I strongly suggest that you pick up a Artcore AF95. Very nice instrument
Considering what you are probably looking for in a hollow body you can find in the AF95. The pickups, the tuners, the knobs that you love Ibanez for, the pickguard, the bridge, the tail piece, and the ability to load the guitar with round or flat wound strings comes to mind in the features department.
Often this is a relative topic but considering the price it truly is a nice guitar. It well exceeds the needs of most guitarists of all levels.
It's definitely a value no doubt about it. I have read many of the reviews about this guitar, some that are really misleading in my opinion. I'm talking about people saying how hard it is to set the guitar up to people talking about gold platting peeling. I have not seen that to be the case, I'm very hard on guitars and it's still going strong after using it on a recording project. And lets be honest you shouldn't expect a guitar of this price range to live up to the standards of a more expensive instrument but in many ways this one does.

I bought this guitar from a local music store after reading all the comments about it. .

Very average guitar. The action has to be set up high to achieve reasonable playability. Fret buzz is very obvious in the 8 to10th fret. The upper registers are hard to play. Using heavier gauge strings and adjusting the truss rod does not help much. The gold plating on the tail piece started peeling off after two weeks

Beautifull guitar with near perfect finish. Great Jazz tone (used with a Roland Cube 30x). Well made for the price.

surprisingly good - and surprising

By Anonymous

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

I went looking for a semi or full hollow body because a wanted deeper, smoother tones than I got from my Strat. After playing everything at Guitar Center a couple of times I ended up with one of these, because it delivered what I was looking for. And I could have bought something far more expensive. The funny thing is, once I had it home and played it regularly, I kept drifting into the not smooth end of things, especially after restringing with heavier nickel flat wounds. Don't get me wrong; this thing will deliver all the smooth jazz sounds you want. But it can make you rock. It just delivers, period. I can't remember when I last got this much guitar for the money, and I am not young. So, do not overlook this guitar when you are looking over guitars.

China Made

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

First Off I have been playing for 45 years and have owned a music store. I am also a guitar tech.I did many days of research on this Artcore Model AF95PV-TK-12-01 and nowhere did anything I read said it was made in China. Well it is.When I received it the pick guard was really far off and I had to re-set it. Next the tail piece/string holder was off by a whole screw hole. This caused the bridge to move down as soon as I started to play it, causing the intonation to go haywire. I had to remove and fill the holes with epoxy and re-drill/mount the tail piece.Next I had to adjust the truss rod, it was way too tight thus causing the guitar to play hard. Now ... the fret board is almost flat not hardly an arch, and this is for beginners, lol. On the Ibanez website I did look at the profile and it showed a nice arch. The frets are Chinese and are not polished and thus play ruff. I had to change strings 3 times to find what is the best and I found Martin Acoustic Ex Light, 10's sound the best either plugged in or not. This gives the guitar that warm sound I was looking for.If it wasn't for Musician's Friend giving me an excellent XMAS deal I would have returned it. I paid $279.99 for the guitar and the hard shell case. But now I am letting the cat out on this guitar, it is Made In China.

All that Jazz and More...

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

This guitar appears (in a well-lighted area) as the most beautiful brown - it's the "transparent" black, with the bright curly maple shining slightly through that creates this effect. Don't worry: it's stunning. And the block fingerboard inlays are of the most exquisite abalone I've ever seen. The guitar is simply unique in appearance, and I want to sit and just look at it sometimes! But when the looking is over, the playing begins, and the AF95 plays like a guitar costing four times this price. It sits on your leg, perfectly balanced, and is so "cool" feeling. This is, I suppose, a result of everything coming together just as it should in a super-nice arch-top guitar. The neck is fast and the fingerboard is coal-black; the pickups and bridge are gold, the tuners are gold and pearl gems that match the tailpiece perfectly. The pickguard is even made of curly maple and finished in transparent black -- no plastic here! And the array of tones you can coax out of this "jazz box" is enormous. Smooth jazz, bebop, swing, even fuzzed-out rock, country, boogie-woogie -- it's all in there, waiting for you. The piece of foam beneath the movable bridge IS a bad idea, but here's what I did: I put the guitar on a bed, loosened the strings just enough to pull up the bridge ever-so-slightly, while my dad carefully dragged the foam out with tweezers. You don't want this kind of bridge to move back or forward even a hair, so be careful. Shame on Ibanez for such a dumb move! That's my only gripe. I've strung it with flat-wounds, round-wounds, all sorts, and it likes them all. I've settled on D'Addario's "Jazz/Blues" set, which are 11's, and what a great chunky tone comes out of this guitar now! The treble notes, high up, are bell-like, just awesome. The AF95 is a beauty and it sounds great, plays great, it's a keeper. Get one.

Great except the bridge

By Rich

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

I'm extremely happy with this guitar. The all maple body is slightly brighter than most hollowbodys, but that's a good thing. I've always felt that most hollowbodys are way too bassy. This guitar captures that 'George Benson' or 'Norman Brown' sound perfectly. Great for jazzy funk and light jazz, yet still has that rich resonant jazz hollowbody sound.

This is also an EXTREMELY beautiful guitar without being too flamboyant.

With a replacement bridge, tuners & a jack plate it's good to go...I may try some GFS P-90s just to see what they sound like, but I'm very happy with the sound as is.

I'm very happy with this guitar.
This is a standard 2-humbucking pickup hollowbody guitar. It would be better if it was 25 1/2" scale, but at this price you can't have everything. I would have also liked to see a jack plate - but most guitars don't have one...easy enough to install.
The quality of the wood work is EXCELLENT. I was surprisingly happy with the sound of the pickups - I had expected to replace then, but decided there was no need. The tuners are O.K., not great, but O.K. I don't like the white perloid color anyway. Eventually I'll change them to Gotoh or grovers. The one problem with this guitar is the bridge - it rattled horribly. The screw thru hole sizes & threading didn't match the screws. I found the same problem when I played an AF75 at a local music store. I replaced it with a $35 Gotoh bridge from StewMac. Sounds fine now. I may try a wood bridge in the future, just to see what that sounds like.
This is a great value. Only the Ibanez AG95 and AF95 are comparable in that price range.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

this guitar is probably the single most beautiful thing to ever touch my hand (for the price...) it sounds just like a good jazz guitar should, nice and smooth. the pickup selector setup is good (volume for both pickups) and the tuners are great. the guitar is a little clunky when it comes to playing it, and the floating bridge can be inconvenient, but honestly, who cares! my advice: buy it now!

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

I am a beginner with going on eight years of practice a couple of hours every day. I have had many guitars and this one has been the best so far. I was concerned after reading some bad reviews; but, when I set it up it was more than fine. That foam packing under the bridge was a challenge for those that know that a change in position changes intonation. Since I read a review about that I was prepared ahead of time and was able to keep the bridge in place. only small adjustment on two strings required. It will be hard to have to go back and play my strat after playing this one. As I expected the tuning drifted for a couple of days until the wood settled down to temperature and humidity and now for a week has been steady.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

At first, I was weary about buying a hollowbody because I figured it would be just like an acoustic. But I found out that it has as much crunch and power as all the other solid bodies. It also has VERY good sound unplugged. I love this guitar. It's worth the extra dollar. :)

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

I first saw this guitar at my local music store. I loved the way it looked, very classy. As a joke, i told my dad "I want that guitar!" He bought it, and i have yet to play a better guitar for the three years I've owned it. You can play anything from nice slow jazz, to pound your face in metal! GREAT guitar! BUY IT! There is only one downside to it. It is very uncomfortable to stand up and play. If you have the strap too short, your right arm will start to cramp up because you are having to bring it into your body to play. And if you have the strap too long, it is impossible to get your left hand comfortable to play. The wide body is not a good choice for standing up. Other than that, it is amazing! 5*'s

I Can't Put it Down

By Stryno

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

I Love it, and the reviews you are reading are all correct, it is that good. My only complaint was that the Pick guard was loose and slightly rattled, but with a little tweak I don't notice it now. I went from Flat Tops, and was hoping for a smaller feel, but this Large guitar feels every bit its size, Luckily it sounds great and feels great. With smooth low Action and a Clear Tone it is my Favorite Guitar, and I cant believe it was not near as expensive as I was planing on paying for such a quality instrument. My Friend Who plays hard rock and Metal was blown away by its Power Crunchy Sound and Gritty Tones when plug into my 15g fender front-man amp, So much so he prefers this jewel to his Strats. His only complaint is that it does not have a higher registry. It is a great all around guitar, that will fit most all genres and play styles. Ibanez Art core made a great instrument when they made the AF-95and I plan on my son giving it to his son 'cause I will never get rid of this one.

Got mine used during yearly trek back home to states. Looked like far more than the modest price. Yes, Thai climate eats guitars, and gold plating no exception to that, but I don't care. The stock pickups were okay, but pair of golden age humbuckers in and WOW. Friend is pro musician, and he says likes as much as his ES-335. I love full hollowbodies. Tail piece and pickguard very classy. Upgrade pickups and you will sound about as good as anything out there.

    Now I like hollowbody Archtops!

    By zontar

    from Canada

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

Not that long ago I didn't "get" hollowbody archtops. I didn't have any use for them. But that's changed. Last year I was looking for something different than what I have to add to my arsenal. I spent nine months checking out music stores, and tried a lot of guitars--most of them pretty good, but none felt like "the one."Along the way I tried a few hollowbodies and I started to "get" them, and when I picked up an AF95, it was the one.Not only does it look great with the flamed wood, and the abalone inlays, and I love the price. But most importantly there's the way it feels & sounds. I like to try a guitar unplugged before plugging it in, and the AF95 passed that test.Plugged in it sounded great and I found it easy to play.I mostly play blues on it, but also strum chords, and throw in a bit of other styles as well. You can get a great raw sound from it, and also play smooth stuff.I now love archtops and the AF95 is a great way to get into them when you're looking at that price range.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

This guitar will light up a room. Doesn't have the playability of a solid-body system, but its versatility is second to none. Amped up or unplugged, it never disappoints. (careful though, the bridge is seprate and in 2 parts. It scared me too!) My only warning is to turn down the volume on the independant control while the distortion is on to avoid the feedback vibrating your strings. All around a great, versatile guitar, and if your a blues player, worth it to sound like BB King.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

The Artcores are the greatest value in sub 1k hollow bodies. You get great quality, playability, construction, and sound for your bucks. I am fairly new to guitars, but can see quality and value well enough. My two minor complaints are the piece of styrofoam that is used under the bridge to minimize scuffing during shipping. The buyer will have to remove it and readjust the action prior to playing. Can you say "hassle"? My guitar had a 4X4X2 pice of soft foam jammed in the body cavity. I was able to carefully pull it out through the f hole. Makes you wonder about their QA. But I am very pleased with the guitar all in all. Since this is a bit of a non traditional color, I would suggest looking at one in person if possible. The color is called transparent black, but depending on the ambient lighting color is a bit closer to brown in my opinion. Still beautiful to look at, just be ready if you order one sight unseen. Ducats well spent here. Thanks Ibanez!

    By pickinONme

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

The AF95 is a beautiful instrument. With transparent black, golden appointments, and bound edges, one may assume this guitar costs much more. The AF95 is not found wanting of TONE either. Although it does feel large at first, I can say the ax begins to become a part of you after a short time. Independant volume and tone controls (that actually work) round out the package for an all out bluesy jazz assault. The floating bridge is a mennace, but adds to the unique charater of this guitar! Plugged in or accoustic, you will not be let down by this Ibanez!

Comments about Ibanez Artcore AF95 Electric Guitar:

I was at my local music store killing time waiting to pay off a layaway bass - when I saw this gem. Fell in love with the look, examined the fit and finish and found it to be fantastic. I played the neck and was blown away. I rushed to the nearest tube amp and plugged it in, and the quality and variety of tone blew my mind. I wasn't even looking for a hollowbody guitar. But the combination of gorgeous looks (the abalone inlays are beautiful!) fast and comfy action and lush tone are unbeatable at any price, let alone the reasonable price of this guitar. I'm getting wonderful Jazz, Clean and Dirty Blues, and even Hard Rock tones out of this thing. WOW! And the arched top AND back and flamed maple and transparent black finish with gold hardware are sexy as hell, and the binding-even the F-holes are bound for cryin' out loud! This is my new favorite guitar! I would very highly recommend this instrument.
