Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AFJ957 7-String Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I own several 7 string jazz guitars and a couple 6 stringers including a fully carved Raines with a Benedetto pickup, Raines 335 style, Schector Jazz-7, Gibson ES-175 Charlie Christian, and a very old ES-125 T. I wanted a guitar that would be in the same "ball park" as my fully carved one, which is incredible. I thought a full hollow with a spruce top (even pressed) might get close enough for gigging. Unfortunately this guitar has a very anemic acoustic volume and tone. I suspect the top is too thick, and/or bracing too rigid. Usually a good acoustic volume and tone translate to equally good tone amplified. The huge 17" but thin Schector semi-hollow actually has a warmer and louder acoustic tone. With that being said, this guitar is very well built with good appointments. Wish the fret board were ebony is my only complaint but for the money good. Amplified tone is bright (roll tone all the way back) but decent and gets you more into the 335 realm than any Super 400 or L5 vibe. Action nice out of box...sound will probably benefit from heavier strings...guess these start with .011" maybe .012". Will move up to .012" or .013" and hope sound improves. Bottom line this is not a viable acoustic guitar.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AFJ957 7-String Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have always wanted a 7 String Jazz guitar, this one presented its self I grabbed it! Plays great, just like most of the mid to higher range Artcores. After an initial set up with D'Addario flat wounds it played great acoustically. Frets good, finish good, and I really liked the look of the volume & tone knobs as well. It took me a bit to adjust to the 7th string, fret hand wise, eye/hand coordination takes a bit to adjust, but after a few songs I really loved the ability to stretch out and grab different chord inversions and experiment. For the price this is a steal, you will want a case and the Ibanez AF100C Fits it.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AFJ957 7-String Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Don't let the inexpensive price fool you. This is a quality guitar on par overall with my Hofner Chancellor and Epiphone Elitist Byrdland. The only better guitar in my collection is my Gretsch Country Club. I have a Gibson ES-175 also, but the craftsmanship of the Ibanez is much better.

I play jazz, and the pick-ups have a bit too much treble with a flat EQ. It's of course possible to dial in a fatter tone, but that involves putting the bass higher than usual. I also physically lower the pick-up on the bass side so it isn't so boomy. The key to a good jazz tone is to get all the strings at the same volume. A particularly impressive thing, though, is that with the tone rolled all the way down, it doesn't get muddy. Maybe this was the reason for all the treble, so that really isn't a complaint.

(Strings are D'Addario Chromes.) Further, the seven strings offer a lot of possibilities. I use either an all Major 3rd tuning or an all minor 3rd tuning. (You have to customize your string set for this, so the tensions balance correctly.) This allows me to have Major 3rds for four strings and minor 3rds for another four (the middle string is part of both sets of thirds). I wish Ibanez would make more 7-string options. I'd buy them all!

All in all, this is a must buy. It helps that it's beautiful to look at, too!

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AFJ957 7-String Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I've owned a Artcore AFj957 7-string for several months now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. It plays really nicely and has a wonderful dark, warm tone. It's also a beautifully constructed guitar and very solid. I play it professionally at club gigs and I constantly receive comments on how nice it sounds. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a nice jazz guitar.

Comments about Ibanez Artcore Expressionist AFJ957 7-String Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

After quite a bit of comparison shopping I settled on the Expressionist. It was great out of the box but the strings had been installed incorrectly. It came with 12's and had relief in the neck and after a 4 hour solo jazz guitar gig, my hands were toast! So I dropped down to 11's and set the truss rod and it became a dream to play!
        here it is in action.

The box has a great acoustic sound and combined with the pick ups gives a great and complex tone.
