Comments about Ibanez Artstar AF151 Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is a handsome effort. I would much prefer a quality pickup and electrics over the emphasis on gaudy fretboard inlays. Round wounders will not find the jazz tones they desire with this model.

Comments about Ibanez Artstar AF151 Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I had played the AFJ95 in a local store and had been quite impressed, but was a little apprehensive about going for the AF151 without playing it. Well, I needn't have been. This is a gorgeous instrument; looks like a knockoff of a Gibson Citation. The guitar arrived very well packed and protected, and was well set up. The bridge was a bit high for my taste, but it was the work of a few minutes to loosen the strings and lower it. (BTW, Ibanez includes a comprehensive manual that has the necessary spec.) The neck is extremely comfortable; I particularly like the 24.7" scale, which fits my smaller hands well. The sound is gorgeous - rich, warm, and full - even on chords up near the 12th fret.

My only complaint, and this is a small one indeed, is that I haven't been able to find out what strings came on it. I emailed Ibanez before purchasing the guitar, and was told they are 10-52 D'Addario EXL140s; however, those are roundwounds, and what's on the guitar are definitely flatwounds. I've written back for clarification but haven't heard back from them.

So to summarize, we have a very well-built, solid wood archtop with a floating pickup that comes with a hardshell case for less than a grand? (Substantially less if you call and ask for a discount.) Terrific buy. I am well satisfied.

This is my fifth review of this guitar and I see no others so far. Did I get the prize of the litter or are all AF151's equally enjoyable.

Hat's off to Ibenez for a fine guitar in every respect...slight fret buzz not withstanding. I play Jazz and like very low action. I little personal attention to an otherwise fine guitar is OK with me.

Comments about Ibanez Artstar AF151 Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I continue to be disappointed by the need to level the frets in three places. Although I am capable of performing this procedure myself it should have been performed before shipment. Many will say this is a small thing and I will agree to a point. However at the price I should not have to dress the frets. I still think workmanship is fine and the tone is up to my expectations.

Comments about Ibanez Artstar AF151 Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I am very pleased with this pickup. However the tone control is more like an off and on switch. There seems to be no linear response. Fret buzz is still a problem which is disappointing but can be corrected. I am working on it.

The pick guard is unacceptable from an esthetic prospective. It matches the finish on the guitar which makes me think the guitar has a stick on simulated grain finish which it probably does. I am changing out the pick guard.

All in all I am still happy with this ax.

Comments about Ibanez Artstar AF151 Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is a continuation of my review posted yesterday. The fret buzz in a few locations has seemed to disappear with neck adjustment. My playing style requires a very low action but don't forget the neck can be too straight. This guitar may still have some high fret issues which can be corrected if done carefully. Refer to YT on fret leveling.

This guitar feels a lot like an Epi Emperor...nice neck and light in weight. I am getting the jazz tone I want through a Fender Blues Deluxe tube amp.

I am happy with this guitar so far. Beautiful finish although the matching pick guard is not what I would choose.

        Comes with hard shell case.

Comments about Ibanez Artstar AF151 Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Guitar arrived today in fine condition.(case included) Finish and detailing were up to my expectations. Came with D'Addario flat wounds. Feels like 12 gauge which I prefer. The action was set high and for my purposes I like the lowest action I can get. I use the quarter test...a quarter placed under the 6th string at the 12th should be trapped for a jazz player. In adjusting the bridge to achieve this string height I got fret buzz in some positions. This guitar needs a professional fret dressing. I gave the neck a couple of tweeks to correct a slight bow. All in all this axe will work for me.
