OVERVIEW

Figured ash for exotic looks and powerful sound.

There are a lot of guitars to choose from. The Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar is different. Singular in looks and sound because it's made from exotic figured ash. The grain patterns are striking. It's amazing to find an exotic wood guitar in this price range.

For faithful reproduction of acoustic tone, a B-Band UST pickup is paired with the Ibanez AEQ-SP2 preamp with onboard tuner. Tune anytime, anywhere. You'll also be ready for whatever connections are available; the EW20ASE is equipped with balanced 1/4" and XLR outputs.

Paired with the fine wood are high-end cosmetic appointments also found on guitars costing much more: an abalone rosette, Ibanez chrome die-cast tuners and a natural high-gloss finish. If you've been holding back on an acoustic guitar purchase because you haven't found the right features at the right price, your wait is over.

like i have said above, AWESOME GUITAR, AWESOME VALUE, GORGEOUS, SOUNDS GORGEOUS PLUGGED IN. my only hang up was that i had the battery compartment issue when i first bought the guitar. but since then it has been smooth sailing. so i give it a 9.5
great eq system on the guitar...you can turn up bass, mids, and treble, independently. the onboard tuner is awesome. the shape function works well. the cutaway is well designed. a very structurally sound guitar. the only problem i have had has been with the battery compartment for the pickup. the design of the battery compartment could use some improvement. once i made the necesarry adjustments it is no longer an issue, but it was an issue at first. overall though a 9.
wood is great. the pickup sounds awesome!!! i have people tell me all the time how great my guitar sounds at open mics and often get the "oooohhhh, that's a preeety guitar". and it is. it is a real head turner and a joy for the ears. my only issue with the quality stems from the battery compartment pickup issue i had. i love ibanez and i want them to improve in that area, so quality wise i give it a 9 because the battery compartment needs improvement. everything else quality wise is a 10.
you will not find a better value, period. i am rambling to say more than that, but i want to add that taylor exotic woods are well in to the 4,000's. this guitar looks and plays like a million bucks. don't be fooled by deans. they look like a million bucks but don't play like it. ibanez exotic wood is an incredible line of guitars. value wise, it is INCREDIBLE!

I bought this guitar in February '09. It was great for the first 3.5 years. It had an absolutely beautiful sound, and my guitar playing friends were surprised it was not a more expensive instrument. Around a year and a half ago, the body started warping and the neck started pulling away from the body. This may be my fault as I rarely kept it in its case. It was not in a humidity controlled environment but I never left it outside or exposed it to temperature extremes. My first acoustic guitar, a cheap no name that I bought in 2004, has been subject to the same conditions and is doing fine.

Comments about Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Figured Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I reviewed this axe a few years ago when I first bought it, but after three years of playing and public use (I lead the band at church a couple times a month) I'd like to re-review.I've used this guitar with a variety of setups, but currently I run through a Boss TU-2 into a Nova Delay, then direct into the soundboard, then into a Bose tower system (we use 3 towers with subs).Pros:- Sparkling tone, good balance, low Ibanez action- Quality electronics with good EQ- Looks gorgeous on the wall next to my Les Paul- Terrific with the Nova Delay- Still stays in tune well after 3 yearsCons: - Cracks in the finish, by the electronics - there when I bought it.- Developed a rattle after about 2 years. The hex nut around the cable jack had come loose. - Doesn't fit in the case the GC rep sold with it. The case eventually split at the seam, though it ALMOST fit enough that I didn't notice when buying. As with any wood product, make sure you try BEFORE you buy. They all sound and look unique.

Nice Guitar / Poor Electronics

Comments about Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Figured Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for several years now. I currently am not using it for performance. Unfortunate, as I love to play it.Pros: Well built instrumentBeautiful woodBeautiful tone plugged or unpluggedGreat priceCons:The electronics fail after a few years. The cost to replace the electronics can range from $130 - $230.If you pay the cost for replacing the electronics, you haven't saved any money buying the guitar. If you don't replace the electronics, you are stuck with a white elephant.

This is a great guitar. Plays very easy, and neck is fast. Sweet on fingering chords. Play it threw a Peavey classic 30 and easy to control feedback. Sounds good straight or by amp.If your not sure about this guitar dont be. You will be happy.

AWESOME GUITAR!

By Luigi

from Singapore, Singapore

Comments about Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Figured Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First off, you can probably tell by looking at that picture up there that this guitar is simply a work of art. There is honestly no other guitar that comes even close to what this guitar looks like. Whenever anyone sees me playing this thing, they always are so interested about the wood, and they assume that this guitar costs thousands of dollars. When I tell them the price I paid for this guitar, their jaws drop! Next, that amazing sound. For some reason, the Ash wood creates a very unique bright and jangly sound that blows away the tone of some of the martins and taylors that I have played in the past. Yet, even when you plug it in, the built in pickup allows you to fine tune your sound to whatever you need. As well, that built in tuner is really convenient. Don't be fooled by other people saying that it's not accurate enough, its fine for anything shorter than a world tour for 100000's of fans. :D Last but not least, a mic cable jack! Amazing! I can plug my guitar straight into a mixer at a gig without using an external amp! How handy. Don't miss out. Buy this guitar before its gone. It's simply FLAWLESS. Thanks Ibanez for a sweet guitar.

A great guitar at a great price

Comments about Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Figured Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Ibanez EW20ASE- I've had this guitar for the last 8 months and really love to play it. I use it regularly at open mic nights and it hasn't failed me. It stays in tune, the action is set at a nice level for me. The multiple options for plugging it in help as well. I've received many compliments about the wood. I think the guitar produces a nice bright tone with good sustain. I sort of thought that it should be able to produce better deep tones since it has a jumbo body, but for the price, you really can't be too choosy. Bottom line: Pro's- it plays like a dream, it looks great, the preamp works great, the tuner is dead on and easy to use,it sounds great plugged in or not.Con's- I wish it had some deeper bass tone, I wish it had markings on the fret board other than at the 12th fret. Soloing on stage with dim lights, can be a challenge without them.

Great acoustic for amazing price

Comments about Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Figured Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The Ibanez Acoustic-Electric figured ash cutaway is a must. Besides its beautiful appearance, its tone is even better. It works wonderfully with acoustic amps, which shows its full potential. Every guitar player needs at least 1 good acoustic, and this is what you are looking for. If you hate the bad economy as much as I do, good guitars seem impossible to afford. But Ibanez has taken that to thought, and given us amazing guitars for amazing prices. My friend who helped me pick out this guitar said that this one sounded better than the $4000 C.F. Martin he was playing a few days before. I have Elixr strings on it, which deliver a clean and crisp acoustic sound. This guitar is great for any kind of music you play. I love this guitar for playing Jack Johnson, The Avett Brothers, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Noah and the Whale, even Interpol! This guitar will not dissapoint you and has pleased me very much. What are you waiting for..

Comments about Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Figured Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this on my birthday and it's perfect. Looks alone don't make a guitar and this has that and a whole lot more. I really like the on-board tuner. I've noticed that this guitar is somewhat hard to play compared to other ones I've had but I'm sure I will get used to it and be able to play it like all my others.

A Fine Guitar Art

Comments about Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Figured Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Hwody folks, when i seen this fine art hang'in on the wall of the music store,I had to check it out.The wood and feel of the neck is as smooth as a babies butt. And I cant find the words for the sound, butjust know when you stroke the strings, the warmth of this fine art, the sound is out of this world unplug'd.Now when plugs to an full stack, she has a great feel to the ears, a bit too loud, but over all its sweet, the only negative of this guitar, is the pop button. i guess when you play too loud or something it shuts down, i use a peavey windsor full stack on her and its not even near level 5 on sound and but the time i hit hard a note, it shuts off and i have to push the button again to get her to come back to life, it does this a lot to me. i dont like that feature of the guitar but even though i hate that part of the guitar i still would buy it, i am still new to guitars but i do know a good sound when i hear it, it seems now they are make'in amps with this protection crap which i hate, if i want to jam and blow out my speakers then let me do it, i dont like being told i cant go that high, oh well this may be the modern times but i do miss the old 80's and 90's. thanks folks and ibanez for kickin up a nice peace of work...spooker

It was great

By Blake B.

Comments about Ibanez EW20ASE Exotic Wood Figured Ash Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Well i first purchased it at a little shop in Texas and not long after getting it home to Alabama the preamp went out.. The warranty covered it and was taken back to texas on a later trip.. I got it back and played it twice in church and the preamp again went out.. I sent it to bailey brothers and it has now been fixed and has been working great and i love it.. great look (i get comments all the time) one bad thing is that it requires a jumbo gator case so it's bulky to carry around but other than all that it's been amazing..
