Ibanez

A hawt guitar built for a hawt rawk guitarist.

Paul Gilbert thrashes and rolls only with the best of instruments, namely his own. His signature models deliver with a rough and tumble combination of shred playability and warm tone just where he wants it. The design of the FRM100TR was inspired by many hours of playing and performance by Paul Gilbert with the original Ibanez Fireman model. The most eye-catching part of the FRM100TR is its unique body shape, featuring a distinctive reverse Iceman body outline. The Fireman's mahogany body balances remarkably well.

FEATURES
Similar to his other signature models, the FRM100TR features a specific layout to keep the volume knob location in Paul's favorite spot. In addition, the guitar features a pickup selector switch and an added tone control for maximum tone shaping.

The neck of Fireman is different than the previous RG shapes in the Paul Gilbert signature series. It's thicker and fatter - 22mm@1st fret and 24mm@12th fret - for a classic feel. The 3 pc mahogany/maple/mahogany neck offers the player a fat and tight sound with a solid grip for comfortable playability which Paul demanded.

The FRM100TR features DiMarzio® pickups favored by Paul. The bridge and neck positions feature DiMarzio® Injectors™, while the middle features a DiMarzio® Area '67™. They are designed with hum-cancelling construction to eliminate the noise but retain single-coil tone. These pickups have a warm, modern tone compared to vintage single coil pickups, and provide a clear, tight sound. The sound stays true even under high gain settings, so solos can be clearly heard when performing with a group. The classic bright and clean sound is easy to achieve.

The original Ibanez Tight-Tune bridge and tailpiece promote superior transfer of string vibration without unwanted movement.

Comments about Ibanez FRM100TR Fireman Paul Gilbert Signature Electric Guitar:

The guitar sounded great although it did take me a day or so to get used to the single coils. The pickups do not sound as thin as a strat. The guitar was built pretty well but there is a design flaw in that the pick guard doesn't have a screw hole on the top and that left a size able gap. I was about ready to overlook it tho because it looks way cooler in person and have it as my main guitar over my Am Stand Strat and Ibanez RG until I started getting soreness in my thumb joint. I realized it was from the massive neck on this thing. The width from bottom string to top isn't that bad, but it is definitely the thickest guitar neck I have played and have had issues w my thumb before with large necks. . If u don't mind the gap space at the top or a massive neck I would recommend it. I would say play it before you buy it online.

Very Nice Instrument

Comments about Ibanez FRM100TR Fireman Paul Gilbert Signature Electric Guitar:

I easily see this becoming my go to instrument (over my trust PRS SE Singlecut & Ibanez S7320).
There's so much fun to had playing this guitar...
...and isn't that the point of playing in the first place?
I was drawn to this guitar because of the room and freedom my picking hand has to move around the pickups and bridge - I've always had discomfort playing any Strat-like instrument with the volume knob close to the strings... My hand is always hitting them! This guitar is so liberating for me in that regard.

The guitar looks heavy, but I was really surprised at how light it is compared to how my PRS SE Single cut feels.

However, as with all of my guitars, with the first string change, I will be replacing the stock machine tuners with Planet Waves Auto-Trim Locking Tuners.
The bridge and tail piece are great! I love the versitility and adjustability that they offer.

The potentiameters feel really smooth and solid. I was impressed with how much difference could be made to the output of the pickups with just a little roll-off here and a little roll-off there!

Speaking of the pickups... This is probably the 1st guitar I've ever had that I won't be upgrading the pickups to something better... They sound that good to me.

I love the high, narrow fret wire too! It keeps my fingers from rubbing the fret board too much higher up the neck where space gets tight. That upper fret area is surprizingly accessable too.

Then neck - much fatter than any of my other guitars. It diffinately holds more of my hand, yet it feels rather comfortable. I think it's just a matter of of my getting used to the bulk of the extra wood. The neck feels more durable because of it, which is very good because the Ibanez case made for this instrument doesn't fit very well - In my instance the case is too small. with the instrument in the case and the case closed there is a very discernable buldge in the lid of the case from where it is pressing against the guitar neck! (I'm not happy about this). I'm trying to conform the interior of the case to accept the guitar better to keep from damaginf the neck!!

My only real squabble with this instrument is that the pickguard looks like the tortoise shell looks like it is PRINTED on the plastic! (Whaaaaa?!) I guess I'll have to get a blank from Stew-Mac and see if I can correct this obvious cost-cutting oversight. (sigh)
For the price... You just can't beat this instrument.
It looks nice, it's not very heavy, it sounds GREAT, and it plays really well.
The only upgrades I plan to make to it are to replace the tuners [which I do for all my guitars] and pickguard [a 1st for me].

Well balanced and feels way more expensive than it is.

Comments about Ibanez FRM100TR Fireman Paul Gilbert Signature Electric Guitar:

Amazing neck, look, sound, and feel. Why not buy it?
Besides the RED classy look and the Iceman cutaway, the first thing I noticed was the thick neck. I have smaller hands but this neck is rounded and big to suit fast comfortable playing. The sound was amazing. I didn't get to play it that loud but I played it through a 40 watt Mustang amp and it sounds great. Especially the clean. These pick-ups are clean and quiet and I would consider putting them in my strat at home. Right out of the box this guitar feels super quality and very well balanced. I played this guitar for hours and would definitely purchase this guitar if I had money
I cant play import guitars and this guitar blew me away. If you consider yourself a guitar snob, and you're somewhat interested, I challenge you to buy this guitar and be impressed with the quality and feel of this guitar. Perfectly fretted and amazing ring/sustain with the bridge. Pick-ups are great.
Could easily be more..feels and sounds like it.
