My best friend had a few bucks on him and he said one day, "Hey, why don't we go to the store and see what kind of stuff I can get for approx. $***". We went to the store, expecting to get a piece of garbage for that price range. We were surpirsed. If I've heard it once, I've heard it a million times before that somebody went to their local store to buy something cheap, came across an Ibanez, and was blown away. He just went to fool around with his money. We saw this guitar, liked its appearance, tried it out, and were indeed blown away. He bought it in a second. He didnt like the bridge pickup though, so he put a Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon into it. He ended up getting tired of it so he gave it to me and now I own it and love it to death. I use an Ibanez Tone Blaster100H and the sound that comes out of the pickup and guitar is mindblowing. I turned this guitar into my project guitar because I love to play leads high up in the neck but there was one small problem. The cutaway by the upper register of the neck, where you play, was too bulky, so what I did was I filed the wood, sanded it, and I left it bare because I really don't care about what it looks like. The GAX70 actually stays in tune more surprisingly than I thought. This is a great guitar, so try not to pass something like this up just because of the price. Every time I go to look for something cheaply priced, Ibanez just continues to surpass every other brand of any other gear. Great job Ibanez once again!

I've had this guitar for four or so years now, and I've decided to write a review. To start off, I'll list pros. It costs very little, is light, and has decent action and feel, especially for a beginning guitar. Also, if you wish to upgrade its electronics, pickups, tuners, whatever, it's not too difficult, though the electronics have somewhat difficult access in a fairly tight space. If you're really looking for upgradability, though, go with Fender or Squier. Now for the cons. It stays in tune HORRIBLY, has a bit less than decent tone, especially in rhythm and in-between positions, is bad with a strap because the neck sinks, its toggle switch is a little messed up, the potentiometers/knobs are scratchy and skip, and the output jack hardly stays together. For a good beginning guitar, go with a Squier, Fender, or a little bit higher level Ibanez, I would suggest. If you're not a beginner, definitely spend a little more on oh one of all those brands out there...there are so many. I'v been playing for six years and am about to buy a new guitar. Also, this is my 2nd and I've used my brother's excellent 600 Ibanez. That's a nice guitar. But I don't have the money for something like that. Maybe shoot for c.500. Keep looking, I'd say.

It's unfortunate Musiciansfriend doesn't sell this guitar anymore! I'm not sure if Ibanez discontinued it or if it was just Musiciansfriend. This guitar is a gem and sounds great in any style of music! I used it in my highschool jazz band until I upgraded to a Gretsch Synchromatic. I still use the GAX70 in my punk rock band and in my church's band. The only complain i had was the plastic components (Knob covers and toggle switch cover) all fell off after a few months. Other than that I was and still am happy to own this guitar
I bought this guitar about 3 or 4 years ago, and it was my first guitar. I plugged it into the amp my mother bought for me, and I just loved it. After about 3 months, the jack had become loose, and I didn't want to take it apart, because it was my baby, essentially. But other than that little mishap, I've had no other problems with it, and would gladly get this guitar for my child.
Such a shame that Ibanez discontinued this line though.
I've had this guitar for over 10 years now, and I gotta say it still sounds good as the day I got it. This was my 2nd guitar, my first one was a cheap fender squire.
The tune-o-matic bridge is useful if you decide to change strings, and it also makes it waay easy to quickly change strings.
I think the only thing I do not like about this guitar would have to be the loose input jack, it's nothing too serious to worry about... It just bugs me from time to time.
alright so i bought this guitar about 5 monthes ago and have been THOURUGHY impressed with it since i got it home!!! i bought it when it was discontinued and got it for a steal! i love the feel of the neck with how thin it is, and personally being into heavier music, the pick-ups have blown me away! there is so much sustain and i can get a real heavy sound from it. its been durable and quite good to me so far. only negative i have is that its not well balanced, it dives when you let go of neck, but if you just tuck it to your side when not holding it, it sits just fine.
I got this as my starter guitar in the red finish. Playing for 4 years now through a peavey valve king.PROS:-Very nice guitar for the price tag. Two above average stock humbuckers, nice sustain, light weight.-Pretty to look at.-Thin neck for anyone with stubby fingers like me.CONS:-Intonation gets out of whack quickly-Stock tuners suck-Electronics die in and out after a year-Weight of guitar is uneven so the headstock points towards the ground when you just stand there with a strap. All in all, it's a wonderful STARTER guitar. I'd suggest it to anyone new that might plan on getting further into guitar.
I actually bought this guitar as a "hold-me-over", but it is now my first choice. With my (very old) Peavey Studio Pro amp, this little baby churns out some sweet blues or crunching hard rock whenever I need it to, which is quite often.I would highly recommend this guitar to any beginning or intermediate player as a great first axe, and to anybody else who plays as a reliable back-up too anything else they're playing.
no guitar is perfect. and no one guitar is the same as another. however, this guitar is perfect for intermediate players. i have had this guitar for over five years and it has held up to my abuse. the neck joint is solid, the neck is strait as an arrow, and the hardware and pickups have had no problems. this guitar is not very versitile. its a pretty basic design. but its a joy to play. im planning on upgrading to a pristige s series because i have become a more elaborate player. but all you beginers out there thinking about buying a squire or another cheaper guitar, stick with ibanez.
Great Intermediate guitar. My brother has the Ibanez Gax 75.(more of an advanced guitar) I've played his, and my Gax70 is almost the same. His action is better though. I got it with the red finish. It is an amazing looking guitar, which is always good. The intonation is nice and the bridge is stable. The frets have a good size for big and small finders. The neck pick up has a clean crisp sound and are perfect for harmonics. I recommend this guitar to anyone who is above the beginner status. BUY THIS GUITAR P.S I am not one of those people who only says something they bought is good only because they want to make themselves think it was a good buy; It really is a nice guitar and I've had it for than than a week, unlike others.
I bought this guitar from a friend of mine who didnt like it for about half the price. At first I wasnt to fond of it but after playing Jacksons,ESP's, and Deans for awhile I decided to jam on this guitar. After adjusting the bridge and a few tweaks this guitar became BEAST and has become my main stage guitar. I use mine mainly for metal because it has great cleans and sounds awesome with my distortion but with determination you can make it play anything you want. For the price you cant go wrong and even if you do add to it youll still have spent less. The man makes the guitar not the other way around.
After i purchased this guitar from the music store i couldn't wait to get home and plug it into my line six spider 3 15 watt amp, i wanted to die! The guitar was terribly set up and the intination was inhuman. I brought it to the guitar shop to get it set up and then it was great! 3 days later it's intonation was out of whack again. Please don't waste your time with this guitar and get something worth while. I guess what they say is true, you get what you pay for.
