My wife bought me this guitar as a gift and I really love it. I wanted a guitar with humbuckers because I am beginning to dabble in metal and other heavy music. I normally play blues with a Stratocaster. This guitar rocks and I LOVE Ibanez necks. They are so thin and fast. I actually gained a 2 fret spread. This guitar is a beast for heavy music. Buckethead music sounds great and the sustain is endless thanks to the basswood body. The neck pickup is warm and clean arrpegio chords sound great and the bridge pickup is hot as a firecracker. Pinch harmonics and Zakk Wylde pings are a breeze. My only gripe is the 1 tone and 1 volume knobs. I am going to change em out with push/pull pots. I really believe you will not be disappointed!!

So this guitar ended up being like that girl at a party you wish you hadn't started a conversation with.
Good looking, but not much else going on, and then after spending some time together, you're looking for a way out. Resale and trade in value is nothing, as I found out.

Now I've loved Ibanez products for years - but those were my younger years in the late 80s.
Stock pickups are okay, nothing special, neck was easy on the hands. This is an acceptable one if you want a guitar that will be your training wheels while learning to shred.
Basswood is near bottom of the list for good tone wood, it is cheap and used for budget guitars - so it's not meant to last. Nice looks at first glance - shark inlays are pretty. The red burst finish is hot.
But that basswood tho. Hard to shape the tone into something likable if you're an experienced player.
If your budget is 200, by all means grab this one up, the action on mine was okay, I lowered it a bit for playability. The hardware is nothing special, especially the tuners.
It's a guitar for a younger person, for sure - it's a matter of taste and after 27 years of playing I just don't draw inspiration from this guitar.
I can't recommend this to anyone who can hold out and save a little while longer for something better - otherwise, by all means pick it up and start playing - don't stop EVER.

Comments about Ibanez GRG120BDX Electric Guitar:

This is my second review that I am writing on this guitar b/c I recently went to a very large music store and I played literally dozens of guitars in various diff. price ranges and I was surprised that my Ibanez grg120bdx is a lot better than what I thought till now, up until this point I thought that I got a really good guitar for a great price but now I realize that I got this guitar for an absolute steal and I mean a steal I tried out guitars that were b/t five hundred and one thousand and the only guitars from that price range that were better than this one was as follows:
    1. Steve Vai gem (Ibanez of course!!!!!!) COST five hundred
    2. PRS se COST five hundred (just a bit better to honest)
    3. Fender COST nine hundred
    Other than those nothing.
It beat out a Shecter and a even a twelve hundred Gibson and a telecaster and what not...
NOW this is all in the feel of the guitar and the ease of playability that I am comp. this Ibanez grg120bdx. BUT obviously the tone of the Gibson and telecaster were better but don't kid yourself this Ibanez has some awesome pickups and a great and I mean a great 3 way switch that gives you a great array of tone options.
This guitar as you can see is a beautiful guitar I was lucky and unlucky that I ended up with the blue metallic burst b/c I had my eye on the green version and when I finally made my decision ( which took weeks) I got a great deal on Black Friday, they only had the blue burst which happens to be stunning a real rock guitar look.
So in conclusion if you are a beginner and you are looking into an electric guitar with a budget then look no further then this guitar trust you will enjoy it a lot ( if you have no budget go out and buy a PRS custom they are one of if not the best and highest quality guitars on the market, they also cost around 4k ). All in all I have this guitar for over a year and a half and I am really happy that I bought this guitar, which was suggested by the MF Customer Service agents. They are the best !

This guitar is the perfect starter guitar and even a good guitar for a more professional player thats on a low budget. It looks great and sounds great I have tried dozens of guitars and this one plays like a Fender the action is simply amazing the neck is so awsome and thin. I love the way this guitar is not to heavy or too light. I already used this guitar at a live performance and it stayed in tune the entire time!

Great guitar for the price, pickups are solid (not great), strings should definitely be replaced. Came set up right out of the box and it looks amazing (sharktooth inlays look great) and the metallic blue is amazing. This is a great starter guitar, especially since Ibanez makes quality products.

I just puchased this guitar used and was really blown away at how good the condition was for a used and inexpensive guitar. This is my first Ibanez and it won't be my last. The neck fits my hands like a glove. The overall feel is like it was made for me. This guitar has really sparked my interest in learning to play guitar again.
