Ok, here's the tough part.

If I had known what I was doing I would have spent twice as much. I would have gotten something with a Floyd Rose type bridge. However, if you are considerign this guitar, you dn't know what you want. You may not want a tremolom you may want a hollow body, you may want a les paul style, you may want accoustic. You just want to play a guitar.

Now, I have made some changes. I upgraded the tone block which according to my instructor makes it play like a higher priced insturment. and I plan on changing the electronics, though I may keep the pickups, they actually do a good enough job to keep.

I will be buying another guitar with the before mentioned Floyd Rose tremolo, but I will keep this guitar for teaching and general screwing around.
The bridge works, the tremolo bar works, the tuners tune, the humbuckers don't hum, and overall everythign works. This guitar has everythign a beginning guitar player needs and a few extras. One nice feature is the neck is a smaller profile than many other brands. This allows the beginner to learn the basics on a guiatar they don't have to fight.
Excelent build. I could find no flaws in the build or design.
For the price, this guitar is hard to beat. If you want something better, buy something more expensive. A lot more expensive.

First, I realize this is a very budget guitar. I don't expect it to be like a high-quality/expensive guitar, and as a beginner I wouldn't know the difference anyway. However, no matter what the budget-range quality of the guitar, no product should arrive broken when it is brand-new.

The front pickup leans forward about 20 degrees. Adjusting the screw only moves the pickup up and down, and I can't level the pickup. The rear pickup is way worse. It is sunk in forward about 45 degrees!!! The top pickup screw moves the pickup in/out just fine (but again, won't level it). The bottom screw is STRIPPED. If you try unscrewing, the screw will just slowly come out and the pickup won't move at all. But even if it did, the pickup is still STUCK at 45 degrees.

I'm sure anyone who works with or builds guitars (yes, even the factory boys who sweat them out hundreds per day) should be able to EASILY notice that the pickups are not level, and especially this rear one. There's ZERO excuse at such a glaring obviously visible problem.

The only answer can be that there is no quality control. It's like, if the neck was missing, they wouldn't notice that, and ship it anyway. If you wrote a good review about this guitar, my guess is that you were one of the lucky ones who received a properly-built one which just happened to come out right. Because I guarantee nobody checks these during the build process nor when they come off the line before placing it in the box.

I'll take it to a guitar shop and pay them to see if they can fix it, and also the fret buzz while they are at it. I'm afraid to return it to MF for an exchange, since I could likely get a worse one. Some reviewers reported multiple returns with varying problems each time. So I probably have no right to complain and should consider myself "lucky" that I only got the problems I did get with mine. ??

Buy this guitar if you have good outcome with gambling, lottery tickets, etc. I think, for the price, it's an awesome guitar, IF you get a working one.

Great guitar, needs better frets and tremlo

By Jason Murphy

from Southern Middle TN

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

Works best for learning and rock & roll. Fret action is low, not good for metal and other aggressive playing styles. The tremlo is very usable, but limited action and effect. If you bend it too far, it feels like it's going to snap.

All in all, a solid axe, a good place to start, and a great steal.
However, if you have the extra cash to spend, go for the GRG150DX. (the next model up)
Works well for most styles of rock & roll. Works ok for metal, but needs thicker frets and sturdier tremlo. To compensate for the short frets, I have to use heavier strings. The tremlo is decent, but is limited in its versatility; only goes so far and the starts to bend.
Well built all the way around. No structural complaints.
Best deal on the internet for the money. I searched high and low, and this little axe took the cake.

Great cheap guitar!

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I have been playing bass for over 17 years now and I travel a lot being in the US Navy so I began to record out to sea. I needed a guitar to accompnany my recordings so I picked one up and had it delivered to the ship and it was great. Good sound, good enough electronics and better than average durability, I would reccomend it to anybody no matter how talented because of the versitilty of this guitar for such a modest price.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar as one of the beginner packs, came with amp, strap, picks..it was between this and the Strat Squier. The last time I picked up a guitar was twenty years ago so I had no idea what I was actually getting until I got it home and started playing again. I just liked the looks of it better than the Strat and it seemed to be easier to play in the store. Since I got it about a year ago I've played almost every day and it's never given me any issues, stays in tune and I still enjoy playing. I've been to the store several times with thoughts of upgrading to something with better quality but I can't seem to find anything that feels good to play as this guitar without spending a considerable amount of money. After trying Gibsons and Strats, I absolutely dig the Ibanez necks, they are thin and very easy to fret, even in the budget guitars. Can't go wrong with this guitar.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I'm a longtime singer and pianist who used to play guitar (just enough to communicate with my guitarists). I bought the Ibanez GRX20 to see if I'd get back into guitar without making a huge investment first. I was surprised Ibanez had a guitar so cheap. Well, there is a reason it's so cheap. It's a toy. The body is plastic, not wood. It started cutting out within days. 1 month in it cut out too much to even practice alone without getting annoyed. Play the A string, & the B string rattles. The low grade plastic nut is comical. It's ridiculous. The pickups are the noisiest I've ever witnessed. They sound okay with HEAVY distortion, when it's not cutting out of course. You cannot use the whammy at all without the whole rig freaking out. It really is more of a toy than a musical instrument. If you want to spend $150 on a toy, good for you. But I wish I'd used that money towards my REAL guitar I had to buy a month after this little novelty item. It's pretty, I'll give it that.No good. Yuck.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

I like the neck action, it's smooth and fast. But, the major problem is it's a cheap guitar. And, by that I mean the pick-ups are horrible. With experience I've learned that with electric guitars it's all about the electronics in them. The pick-ups, the pods and wiring. And, even though it has a good bass wood body and a great neck, I would not use this guitar for anything other than swapping out the pick-ups for some higher quality ones.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

This was my first electric guitar. Dont buy it. the high E string would get caught under the fret on a bend. the input jack broke in about 3 months because a screw inside broke. just not a great guitar.

Comments about Ibanez GRX20 Electric Guitar:

This little gem has a lot of bang for the $$$! The pickups are decent & have a good range. The vibrato is good as it goes up & down, plus it stays in tune! I've lowered the action to around 1/16" & NO FRET BUZZ! Light body, too! If this is Ibanez's idea of a low end axe, the higher end models must be stellar.
