I wouldn't have bought this guitar for myself but it was given to me as a gift so I can't complain. Visually it's a complete knockout: the sleek body shape, the shiny finish, the stellar looking components-this guitar looks more expensive then it is. The neck is superior on this instrument: very fast, very smooth, and comfortable all the way to the last fret-this guitar feels more expensive than it is. The tone, however, is a little disappointing: I was expecting a guitar at this price to outperform my Dimarzio-loaded Epiphone Les Paul. Sadly, the tone of this guitar is less than desirable for an instrument of this price. This guitar DOES stay in tune very well. Maybe it's just luck of the draw but mine holds up even after extreme whammy abuse. Overall this is a very nice mid-level guitar from Ibanez that I can recommend to any Satriani fan. I will keep it because it's such a sweet gift but if it were up to me I would go for a Gibson Les Paul Studio or an Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy GX for about the same price and have more guitar for my money.

Don't buy this guitar thinking that it will stay in tune like so many say because it will NOT. The pups are ok for beginners, but upgrades are needed to sound the way you probably expect it to sound. It looks and feels super and is not terribly over-priced for those who want a guitar with Satch's name on it. I blocked the bridge in mine, so I don't have to fight it to keep it in tune. I still get to enjoy using the fine-tuners on the bridge to keep it in tune while playing, which means I can use my pick-hand to tune rather than having to take my fingering hand off the board, and that's nicer than bending strings to keep them in tune when they go out during a solo. (that also provides a new playing technique-hint, hint) With the bridge blocked, it stays in tune as well as most of my high-end guitars. Even tho I have large hands, I can still play the smaller frets without any real problems. This guitar is not my main axe, but I use it as a speciality guitar for certain songs. The real reason I keep this guitar is because I like the neck so much, and I like Satriani--what can I say? The neck is just so easy to play on. If you're willing to change the pickups to the Paf Joe and Mo Joe, which are the pups that Satch now uses on his axe after trading the Fred in for the higher output and more articulate MoJoe, you can get a good professinal sound with this guitar. I highly suggest that you try the JS1000 and/or the JS1200 before you buy the JS100. Do not order this guitar unless you know how to work on it or unless you have a 'real' tech to take it to that won't take forever to do the required work that one of these kinds of guitars require. These guitars are like boats. They require steady maintainance to enjoy. From the original setup to the daily upkeep, this is not a guitar for the novice or faint of heart, and it is definitly not a guitar for someone who can only afford to have one guitar. Be a wise shopper and try it before you buy it, and keep in mind that it will not stay in tune like so many say it will. Having said all that, I really like it, but I can afford having a guitar just for the fun of it, however, I will probably sell it one day and get one of the other higher-end JS guitars.

    Good for price

    By ParkerFly-RCJce

Comments about Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar:

This is by no means the best guitar for the price, but it is fantastic for an upgrade guitar from a base model. The neck is extremely quick and the tremolo system maintains tune on the instrucment very well. The weakest part of the instrument are the pick-ups. Would not recommend leaving stocks in. Replaced mine with a set of Seymour Screamin Demons and that helped with the tone.Give this guitar consideration over other mid level upgrades, but definitely find a used one. Do not waste money are buying it brand new. Mine was made in the mid-90's.

You get what you pay for

Comments about Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar:

Obviously it's not the greatest guitar in the world, but it's a GOOD guitar. I can definitely tell the difference between the JS100 and other low budget Ibanez guitars. On the other hand, I can also tell a big difference with the way the JS100 sounds compared to the more expensive guitars. Plain and simple, you get what you pay for. I would recommend this guitar to any guitarist that has the money, and is a "middle ranged" guitar player.

Pretty good guitar after it is set up right.

Comments about Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar in October of 2008 and so far, am liking it. When I first bought it, it was absolutely horrible, but once I had it set up it played pretty well. This guitar is certainly a good guitar, but it is not worth $800. I believe the price is with the JS name more than the quality of the guitar. I would highly recommend this, but I would not buy it for this price. Check it out used first.

    It's an older model, but.....

Comments about Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar:

I have this guitar, except the fact that mine is a 1995 model, and the quality is much better than what it is now. It doesn't have the Edge III, but instead a Lo-TRS Trem II, which is amazing, and holds a tune for weeks at a time. So my review might not mean anything to the new model, but I'm putting in my 2 cents about mine.

    P'O'd in J-Ville

Comments about Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar:

After buying no less than 3 of these and spending no less than $200 on 2 of them each upgrading to new pick ups, fretwork, set ups, etc., I FINALLY realized that it was the guitars, NOT my ears. This puts out HALF the volume that my piece o crap Fender Squire Showmaster does. There is not a WORSE sounding axe on the planet than these and the JS1000 is even worse than that for twice the money! I know the top techs here in Jax and NONE of them knew what to do with these pieces of junk. I am so mad at the money I lost thinking these were the bomb. ONLY the neck is worth having and my Jackson Dinky and LP copy are better! DON'T waste your time and money. WON'T stay in tune either and the neck feels like plywood like most Ibanez'. All the hardware rusts in no time and basswood bodies SUCK all your tone.ARRRGGG.

    Owned for 10 years

Comments about Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar:

I've owned a JS100 since 1999 and I love it but you can get better for less expensive. You're just paying for the JS name really and it's kind of a let down he'd put out something this bland. The pickups are generic and don't really cut through so I'd advise buying some quality pickups. It's lightweight and wont wear you out after long sets. I recommend putting up a few hundred dollars more and get the next model up.

    Great Guitar

    By Swannie

    from Augusta, GA

Comments about Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar:

This is an awesome guitar. It has a great neck and a really comfortable body. The bridge is good and i like the coil tapping. My only problem is the pickups. I want Dimarzio's in a Satch model but it's easier to buy a FRED and put it in the JS100 than spend an extra thousand dollars on the JS1000 or JS1200.

Neck it the only thing that is perfect.Floyd is not very good, I had to block it.The guitar is very light, that's why I use it on stage, but the sound for that price could be better. I use optical compressor, pre-amp, EQ, apm simulator and God knows what to make it sound like a guitar. It means - if you want to buy it, be ready to sped a lot of time searching for pickups that would fit for this axe.Don't get me wrong - it is good, but for that price you can get better

    Just Another Ibanez

    By DeaconGtr1

    from Rochester NY

Comments about Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for about 3 years now, and for the first year and a half, it stayed in it's case and I just played it when I recorded. Last year I starting using it as my main axe at gigs, and I started having problems. I had major issues with tuning, my 3 way switch went out, and the springs had to be adjusted on a regular basis. I have a friend who is a tech, and every string change is about an hour long. I love the look of the guitar, and the weight is nice when your on stage for hours. I would look into getting the JS1000 or 1200 instead of the 100.
