Comments about Ibanez Neo-Classic Series FR1620 Electric Guitar:

The bridge, tuning machines, switches and controls are all pro quality.

The pickups are a perfect balance of bright high-end for definition with full balanced body throughout the lows and mids. These pickups will drive the preamp section of any real tube amp nicely, and with pedals will scream into metal mania without losing clarity.

The neck is superbly crafted, super accurate and rigid. That allows low-action with minimal fret buzz.

Twenty four frets is a nice option and the crucial pickup position was not overlooked by Ibanez designers.

The neck PU gets that spooky "Oooo" vowel sound just like my favorite Strats, and it makes a sweet Jazz tone too. Unlike Strats ( which place the neck pickup at an inconvenient node) this will produce harmonics with ease. This neck PU just WAILS for blues solos!

The bridge PU is articulate and strong but not shrill or "spiky" It has the pleasant parts of twang without the nasal honk. I usually test the brightness of bridge pickups with a Marshal amp and some classic Zep riffs from Zep 1 & 2. Try that and you will immediately hear & feel the low E mojo that rips heads and drops panties.

If you like some twangin' try your pet billy-licks with the brdige PU on 7. It's authentic... BETTER than Tele twang. Add some compression and you're in hillbilly heaven.

The switching system is great! It gets those "spanky" intermediate sounds very nicely ( positions 2 & 4) but does not have the empty hollow sound usually associated with those positions.

They put the volume knob in the right place!

Beautiful black finish reminds me of the best custom show cars. The body style is sleek; like a Strat and Tele combined. It really turns heads and I get a lot of compliments on its appearance. People ask me about the guitar whenever I play. I'd like to think it is my playing that they like, but of course they can't buy my decades of experience. Buying a guitar this nice will definitely inspire practice!

That's the REAL reason to choose a guitar. Any instrument that allows you to play as well as you can while getting the best possible tones will help you improve as musician. THAT is the "secret" of pro players; they practice a lot and use gear that delivers what they practiced.

The bridge is a MONSTER... solid as the rock of Gibraltar, comfortable & easy to adjust if you need to, but I did not need to. This thing came out of the box perfect! Changing strings is fast and easy.

The combination of superb hardware, good wood, smart design and great craftsmanship delivers consistent tone throughout the entire range on every string. This has the most consistent response from any electric guitar I've ever played.

I've been around guitars for most of my life. The FR1620 Ibanez has no equal in this price range. Unless you know a custom maker who works cheap, you cannot get a better electric guitar.

The single criticism I could make is only that I prefer lighter weight guitars. This is not grossly heavy like Les Pauls, but I feel it could be a pound or two lighter. Still, with the tapered top it is comfortable to play for three sets standing or sitting, even for an old fart like me.

For those of us who like the simplicity of Telecasters, the tonal versatility of Strats but want better hardware, pickups and quality, this is the best choice in any brand or model.
