OVERVIEW

Designed and inspired by the legendary jazz guitarist for those with a versatile tone palette.

One of the most reconizeable names in jazz since the '70s, Pat Metheny has worked with a plethora "who's who" of jazz greats, in the process becoming one himself. It features a PM mahogany set-in neck with maple top, back, and sides, plus a bound ebony fretboard to give you smooth, sweet tones. Aesthetically, the gold hardware, pearl and abalone inlays, f-holes and stylish KT30 tailpiece pair beautifully with the antique amber woodgrain and curves of the top for a truly classy instument. Comments about Ibanez PM2 Pat Metheny Signature Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Antique Amber:

This is a very well made guitar but for the money you would think it would have much better tuning machines. I'll soon replace them and the bridge as well. The electronics seem fine. The pickup sounds full and articulate through my DV Mark little jazz or Roland cube 30. Yep, it's made in China. But so is your cell phone, television, refrigerator, the computer you're reading this on, microwave, and just about everything you own. If it really bothers you then save up $3000 to purchase the american equivalent. It'll still need a set up. Cheers!

Comments about Ibanez PM2 Pat Metheny Signature Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Antique Amber:

I've played guitar for 30 years now, but I've never owned a jazz box. In fact, this is my first guitar ordered on-line, and I really like it. First off - the simplicity of it: one pickup, one tone knob, one volume. That's all I need. No extra switches. For me, the less hardware and more wood, the better,

The neck on this guitar feels like my Les Paul neck. Not a baseball bat neck, which I also like, and not a smaller C neck, like a Fender. The inlay is beautiful and I prefer the adjustment ability of the strings, as opposed to the traditional wood bridge, the gold connecting hardware that attaches at the bow is not my favorite thing, but my long term goal will include replacing that with a polished wood piece, like Pat has on his 2000 model.

Most importantly, above all this, is the sound. SUPER Sustain...more than any guitar I've ever owned. This one sings. Like Nigel from Spinal Tap says: "go have a bite and ahhhhhhhhhhh" it's still singing!

When I changed the strings for the first time, just the brush of air across the fretboard rang out like a harp! As goofy as it sounds..I knew then I had a winner.

I also appreciate the "grip" knobs that Ibanez uses in lots of their guitars, Feels sturdy to my right palm and doesn't slip. I don't see a manufacturer type with the gold tuners, but they respond like Gotoh tuners I've had in the past...solid and capable of doing their job.

Additionally....I must say : the case is nice too. Not an afterthought. It fits guitar well and was included with my order. A rare thing these days, in my experience.

My guitar will need. setup, as its a bit high out of the box, but that's to be expected. It was shipped with flat wound strings (10's maybe?). I put 11's on immediately, and it looks like a neck or bridge adjustment would probably help. Also - I LOVE the color. Complaints about it being "neon" or whatever, is not true with me, It looks like the yellow in Satana's PRS, to me...so I got no problem with that.

This is an oustnding guitar...for right under the biscuit mark. If you've got the love of jazz, not the cash for L-5.....I think this is a fine choice. I am very happy with it.

Comments about Ibanez PM2 Pat Metheny Signature Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Antique Amber:

Guitar is an extremely high quality build, a perfect instrument in every way direct from China! Got to say I love everything about this guitar! To begin with...it sounds beautiful, you get a nice fat Jazz tone. I've always preferred a wooden Bridge on my archtops and to tell you the truth I was prepared to change out the metal bridge it comes with for an ebony bridge. But, somehow and much to my amazement, it's metal bridge seems to add resonance and a certain mellowness to the tone so I'm gonna leave it right there! The size and scale, the materials, the beautiful finish and upscale aesthetics. The outstanding fret work, ebony fingerboard, 3-piece neck and Ibanez electronics all come together to make for a really G R E A T guitar. The instrument is very articulate and responds to the touch in a most emotional and sensitive manner. It is because of this that it becomes obvious that Mr. Metheny has put a lot of thought into it's design. Of course as usual, Ibanez has put a lot of effort into it's beautiful construction.

Comments about Ibanez PM2 Pat Metheny Signature Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Antique Amber:

took this guitar to a jazz jam session. let the house player who used a heritage 535(like a gibson 335) play it. Noticable difference in tone. Everyone heard that as well. A good notch up from the Heritage. I changed the tailpiece to suit me, and got thomsik-infeld 14's. what a darn nice jazzbox. do youself a favor if you are a jazz standards guy. get this. Outstanding service, as there was a problem during shipping, and they came through asap, with max support.

Had I known that this instrument was made in China I would have had second thoughts about this purchase! That being said, however, After a trip to a local luthier where he adjusted the truss rod, recut the nut, lowered the action, and adjusted the bridge for intonation, I am totally satisfied with this guitar. It now plays perfectly and sounds fantastic! A good , inexpensive jazz guitar!

Comments about Ibanez PM2 Pat Metheny Signature Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Antique Amber:

I have played for many years as a professional musician and now as a hobbyist. I own many great guitars and have built many great guitars and am no stranger to neck, fret and bridge adjustment. Regarding the Ibanez PM2, I had read many reviews and watched many fantastic youtube videos. I was hooked. Here is my experience.

The Good: This model is beautiful, lightweight, resonant and plugged in it has an amazingly beautiful voice. Clear tones a la ES-175 due to perfect neck pickup placement.

The Bad: This potentially amazing guitar suffers from several quality issues. The neck is not straight--it has a different angle from where it joins the body. This makes string height and neck relief adjustment nearly impossible. Further, and possibly as a side effect of the poorly crafted neck, fret 11 is high causing serious buzzing on strings 1 and 2 from frets 8 through 10. Lastly, the tailpiece is not robust and wasn't mounted straight making it difficult to get proper string spacing from the edge of the fretboard (treble side strings are very close to the edge).

The Ugly: Regardless of its angelic voice, it was unplayable in the higher registers so I sent it back. Musicians Friend was amazingly responsive and quickly sent a replacement PM2. I was so excited to receive it. But, it was nothing like the first one--dull, lifeless tone, no sustain, heavy, and exactly the same poor craftsmanship on the neck. Only this time around, most of the strings were unplayable above the 8th fret. So, back it went. It's a shame. The first PM2 sounded better than my beloved ES-175. It's a shame both guitars had serious quality issues. I stand by the statement that this guitar is potentially great. Just make sure you get a good one.

Comments about Ibanez PM2 Pat Metheny Signature Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Antique Amber:

If I had known that this instrument was made in China I would have had second thoughts on purchasing it, however, that being said (after a short tip to my local luthier where the neck was straightened, the nut was recut and fret buzz above the 12th fret was fixed,) it plays really well and has a great jazz sound. I purchased this "gently used" but couldn't find any defects or signs of use! For the price, it really can't be beat!
