Comments about Ibanez RG8004 8-string Electric Guitar:

I ordered mine in gray pewter. Right out of the box, it was astonishingly sleek and beautiful. The matte gray finish is one I totally recommend. I first played it with a clean tone, and the sound is crystal clear and sharp, even with the not-so-great amp I have. The entire range of notes can be utilized and heard clearly. There is a pretty noticeable fret buzz on the lowest string, but that can be fixed by getting a heavier gauged set of strings. On distortion, the notes are still just as clear, and with the right strings, this guitar can be used for both extremely heavy metal and for a smooth, jazzier approach to playing. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone who wants to try out an 8 string without emptying their bank account. Great guitar!!!

Comments about Ibanez RG8004 8-string Electric Guitar:

This is my first 8-string and I gotta say I was a little worried about the fretboard width but it actually feels pretty good! The neck is flat, thin and comfortable.
I own 2 RG prestiges and a Korean SZ and the quality on this is almost as good... The differences would be the pickups (they aren't bad but they aren't Duncan or DiMarzio). The wood is a little lighter so I guess they use cheaper woods but still resonates well so... And the paint job wasn't flawless, I found 2 tiny flaws but barely noticeable.
One thing that I found disappointing is that the neck was a bit separated from the body at the neck pocket so I loosened all the strings to un-screw the neck from the body and one of the screw holes on the neck had lost its thread, I guess it was something to do with the delivery but I fixed it quickly with a toothpick and it's ok now. That's why I don't rate it 5 stars but it's still a great guitar.
The action once the neck was in place was great! Intonation was decent. The bottom string could be a little heavier to get a tight attack and more accurately tuned string.

Comments about Ibanez RG8004 8-string Electric Guitar:

For the most part this is a well built guitar with a solid pickup selector switch and decent OE pickups. The guitar sounds great, I had no issues with it other than the super thin flat neck. I get that that is what most people who buy Ibanez guitars love, but for myself it is an unacceptable neck profile. Again nothing against the quality, it is a very solid guitar. I would recommend this guitar, while letting them know to take the neck profile into account.

Comments about Ibanez RG8004 8-string Electric Guitar:

The RG8004 is an excellent value with a sleeker look than the RG8. Of course, you'll need to tweak the bridge to improve upon the factory settings. I'd also recommend beefing up the F# and B strings. Even with a .074" gauge, the F# is still a bit buzzy, so a .080" may be necessary. Since the guitar has an enlarged ferrule for the F#, a bass string can be used. The pickups are not high output but with a high-gain amp, a boost, and a noise gate, this guitar can produce a good tone for modern metal. Overall, I have no complaints for a guitar in this price class.

Good for getting acquainted with the feel of an 8 string and learning how an 8 string can offer new chord voicings and new ways to write music.

Comments about Ibanez RG8004 8-string Electric Guitar:

I'm glad I did my research and waited on the RG8004. It improves on what's already the best made, best playing, best sounding 8-String on the market by adding a sick matte finish and offset dots for a cleaner, more unique appearance.
