first off i'd say that i'm glad i bought the guitar when it was on sale. although it was worth the money to me when i bought it a few months ago i thought it was an awsome deal. it still is. i love the guitar. plays awsome. ibanez makes the best necks. the wood is smooth and velvety. my only issue with it is that i got the transparent black one, and the finish is very delicate, as is the wood on the guitar. it sounds amazing, has alot of resonance and sustain. harmonics are good (like all ibanezes) locking tuners help too. THe pick ups sound good through my valve king 212, but sometimes i wish they were a little more hot. i don't gig my guitar but it's already beat up. if you're looking for a GREAT guitar to gig with and have the money, get it, but treat it like an egg lol. if not just get a lower model RG and change out the pick ups. you can get close to the same tone with a seymour duncan sh-2 in the neck wired in and out of phase (5 way selector) and then get like an sh-6 or something a little less hot and you can get the same sound.

First off I have to say I love the feel of the neck. I also love the overall look of the guitar. What I don't love is the string buzzing. This should not be a problem on an guitar of this price. I had mine plecked and I still can't have the strings very low. Infact, they buzz even when really high. I have tried heavier gauge strings and it has not helped. The pickups aren't the greatest either. I ended up changing out the neck pickup to a sd. Before it lacked any kind of warmth, and sounded sharp and lifeless. At this point I am in over $1000 and of the four guitars I own it gets played the least. Maybe I just got a lemon.

    Nice Guitar

    By Swannie

    from Augusta, GA

This was a pretty good guitar. It played very smoothly and had great action. It had a good sound and I loved the crushed ruby finish. My only problem was the lack of a tremolo. I want an Edge Pro or an Edge III on an Ibanez. This is the only thing I didn't like about this guitar. If you don't have to have a whammy bar this is the guitar for you.

    No competition

    By C-Lo

There's no better guitar I could have gotten for this price. I needed something I could easily change strings and tunnings on, so a floyed rose was out. The guitar has plenty of sustain, the body is thin, light, and super confortable. The stock pick ups are not bad at all, you can get very decent djent tones with the right EQ settings. Sounds very nice and clean without distortion. I am still swapping out the bridge pickup for a bareknucle instead. If you're looking for reliability and flexibility, it doesn't get much better than this. Don't pass it up.

    Not bad

    By Swannie

This is a pretty good guitar. I played it through a Peavey Classic 30 and it sounded great, awesome tone and sustain. My only problem with it is the lack of a whammy bar. This would be a great guitar with an Edge Pro and maybe a single-coil in between the humbuckers.

    My new

As a guitar instructor for a store in California, I have the luxury of testing several guitars. I have been a Les Paul player for almost as long as I have been playing (20 years) A few years ago I bought an Ibanez RG42dx because I wanted something diffrent, it played great and the price was right. Now I realize what I have been looking for. The Prestige Series is amazing. The quality control is very good, better than most especially in the $1000 range. Usually you find three that play like a dream and hate the next three. I was given an offer I could'nt refuse on the RGA121 and have not put it down for a week. Everything about the guitar for me is just right. I still play the Gibsons, but this guitar is about to make all others in my collection very jealous..Try it for everything from pop, to metal-it kills!

    DON'T PASS THIS GUITAR UP!!!

    By rga121hguy

    from Denver

I have about 17 years of playing experience and I don't know if I have ever played anything as comfortable. The 5pc Wizard neck is so thin, fast, and comfortable, it makes playing dream. The V7 neck pickup took some getting used to, but I enjoy it now. The V8 is a little crunchy for my tastes, but comes in handy for certain aspects of playing. I was going to change the pickups, but after hours of playing logged in, I changed my mind. Most of the tone comes from the wood and your fingers, and the mahogany on this sounds phenomenal. This guitar was made by the wizards at Ibanez in Japan, and should be sold for thousands. At under a thousand bucks, you can't afford to pass this gem up.

Ibanez knocked this one out of the park

    By thesomberlain

    from Los Angeles

Ive owned this guitar for about 2 years and i've enjoyed every second of it.I literally played 400 different guitars before I decided on this one. The neck is just perfect. Paper thin and so so easy to play, and its fast as hell. the frets are tall enough so you can just touch the string and the notes just ring out. The body is hefty like an american guitar but its shaped so perfectly that you forget you've been playing for four hours standing up. Brilliant access to the upper frets. Like I said, its so so easy to play. The five way switch gives you any tone you could ask for. From single coil smoothness to humbucker heat, and treble like you could only get from hollow body electrics. I would have paid thousands for this guitar and still been just as satisfied with it as I am now. Comes with a great hardshell case that caresses the guitar with love and red fuzzy protection. The only thing I could complain about is the sides of the neck. They should have smoothed out the fret edges a little more. Its a little uncomfortable.

    Great buy

    By thesomberlain

    from Los Angeles

I bought this guitar about. I play guitar for a few metal bands and I have zero complaints. I've owned jacksons, shecters, ltds, you name it I've played it. Ibanez does it right for the least amount of money and this is no exception. The wizard prestige neck is so easy to get around on. It makes both sweeping and chords extremely easy. Be careful though, once you play this, you may not want to play anything else.

    Stop looking, you found it!

    By sheamc

This is a great guitar... for anything! I play alot of fast heavy riffs, and alot of soft acoustic stuff, and both sounds great. I play through a peavy XXL with no pedals and I can get pitch harmonics even better than I can on my jackson, which has the emg 81/85 set up. It rocks extremly hard. I play in dropped B and never have to tune! If your a rocker that is looking for something fast and hot, I assure you that you will love this. not alot of stage presence like the new xiphos, but rocks just as hard.also, very light. in these pics it looks really round and fat, it's not, don't expect a s model, but very thin and light.

    Good Deal

    By MassaMan

    from Sunnyvale

I got this from my local shop so I have it in all natural wood, no color. i love it. you can get any tone out of it that you want. i got it for 900. the case is great too, nice and sturdy. the 5 way switch lets you get (in order) warm neck pickups tone, parallel connected neck pickup (great pinch harmonics), both hums, actual single coil tone because it takes half of each hum bucker, and heavy bridge tone. what more do you want out of a guitar? if you are thinking about buying it, then take my words...and words from other reviews into account, but shop around. this might not be the guitar for you. the neck is paper thin...not too comfy to play on for too, too long. i play gauge 10 strings on it and the bends are insane... i love to solo on this guitar. my volume knob broke, so I'm switching out the pickups at the same time...
