The sleek S was a revolt against the traditional mahogany guitars of its time that were usually heavy, bulky and uncomfortable. Obviously it was a successful revolt, as the Ibanez S is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with a wider selection of models than ever. Originally the S was designed as an all-around guitar. Now, however, it finds its largest number of adherents among the practitioners of the more extreme forms of metal who appreciate the S for its unique combination of fat mahogany tone and sustain with light weight and comfort.
Heavy mahogany tone without the heavy mahogany weight. Thin around the edges for comfort. Fat around the pickups and bridge for tone. The S2170FW S Prestige model features U.S.A.-made DiMarzio IBZ pickups. The DiMarzio IBZ neck humbucker is powerful sounding with a quick respnse. The DiMarzio IBZ bridge humbucker provides enhanced harmonics and overtone. The DiMarzio IBZ single-coil with alnico magnets has a well-balanced sound with a clear tone. The 5 piece neck with Prestige finishing provides increased playing comfort. Includes Gotoh precision tuning machines and deluxe Prestige case.

i recently played this beauty at a local music shop, and it blew me away. The neck is extremely fast and the thin body makes shredding so much easier, im gunna keep this simple, if you have the cash buy this gutar, i also envy everyone who owns this masterpeice
This guitar is simply amazing. The bridge pickups has such awesome harmonics, and the neck is crisp. A nice metal feel. The single is great for getting a nice strat feel. The neck feels better than anything I've ever played, even expensive Gibsons. The ZR trem stays in perfect tune no matter what I do to the thing! And I'm a fan of Vai and Satch and Petrucci and Herman Li, so all the crazy whammy bar effects apply here. Definitely worth every penny.. I hope this helps someone.
Well. first of all this is an amazing guitar and I think some people would ask what's the difference between this one and the normal S470 well I would say its the QUALITY!!! First of all the finish is pretty nothing wrong at all the neck is very thin and flat and its very nice for shredding and running also the fret board looks like its ebony its a very dark smooth rosewood plus the back of the neck is full finish it looks like its a handmade nick. The body is light and comfort you can play 4 hours without resting no problem at all.The sound is nice too but it's not ready for a heavy heavy metal songs!! its more to be a normal metal and hard rock style, the bridge PU is very crispy and crunchy but I think it lacks punch the mid PU is good clean sound and its good to play chords and acoustic on it, the neck PU is nice and very good for playing sweeps and solos but I think its a little muddy and fat in tone but a think also that the mid PU produce some noise!! But you can fix it.Now this guitar is all a bout the ZR tremolo. WOW this tremolo RULES amazing I can do all the crazy dimebag stuff on it and believe it or not IT STAY IN TUNE yeah very well trust me I can hold the guitar up with the tremolo arm and after that its in tune.At the end if there was something don't like in this guitar so that would be the Pickups and the sustain yes it's a little weak but if you r a shredder so sustain is not you need what you need is the playability and this guitar got it, be different and get a prestige
I love this guitar. Best guitar Ive ever played for dive-bombing and Pac-man. May be a little heavy in my opinion but balances well on shoulders. I would thoroughly recomend buying this guitar.
I've played them all over the years since I began playing in 1976. I own a gibson les paul I purchased in 1977 and I've played and/ or owned just about everything including fender, Ibanez RG series, BC rich's, a jackson etc.. The look, feel and sound of this guitar is better than most I've mentioned above. The tremolo hardware is awesome to look at let alone play. I cant get it to go out of tune and I'm a dive bomber, satriani, petrucci, EVH fan...The guitar arrived 5 days after ordering just like stated and its in showroom condition as I would expect at this price. The case is also very nice and looks to be very durable and should last many many years.Cant go wrong if you are looking at this guitar! The neck is fast and the action is excellent, and it just looks great!
I've tried many a guitar.... and when I tried this one.. it was the one. I've tried playing other guitars since and cannot find one that has the same feel as this one. I love it. If you're looking for a solid guitar, look no more.
If you put aside the slipping strings, the de tuning locks, and the once a week whammy bar, this guitar is awesome. It's beautiful, the neck is great. Sure whenever you play this at your local music store it seems like a dream but when you take it home its like a newborn child. I just recently got rid of this guitar and bought a godin...I'm much happier now.
I got this guitar about 5 months ago. This guitar is a dream come true for me. It's neck is really invinting, when i play i feel like my hands are floating. If you are interested in a versatile guitar, and if you can afford it, you have to try this guitar at least once :)
