I went to the music store looking for a Fender. I tried all the Fenders, Squiers, Mexican Strats, and Tele's... then I picked this thing up. I didn't want to buy it because it is virtually identical to my older Ibanez and seemed like a waste to buy a second of the same. However, it looked great and once I played it, I couldn't leave the store without it. It is easily twice as nice as my older Ibanez. The action is fantastic, sound is awesome and extremely versatile, even lighter and thinner, and the finish is fantastic. I got the Weathered Brown and it is truly a work of art. While some complain about the tremelo, the fact is you must have better, more expensive hardware for a tremelo if you want to stay in tune. Add a roller nut or a locking nut if you want to be Van Halen, otherwise this guitar is fantastic. I actually paid a little less at the store than the price listed here, but again it's a different finish and that could be the reason. All the Strat players I know love playing on my Ibanez. You will not find a better guitar for this price, probably not for twice this price!

I purchased this guitar as a backup for my strat, cuz of the price and the finish, but very quickly began to leave the strat on the stand. I switched out all three PU's for EMG's and replaced the tuners with Sperzel locking tuners. I blocked off the trem cuz I prefer a hardtail. I can't make the guitar go out of tune now. I play thru a MESA DC5 50 watt on top of a Marshall 4x12 with Vintage 30's. The EMG single coils really brought out the clean sound of this guitar and the EMG 81 screams and cuts through our dense bass heavy mix. (Our soundman is bass deaf I think). Goes from Stevie Ray to Sabbath at flip of switch and volume knob tweak. I love the thin body cuz I'm a big guy and it fits my beer gut well and the lite weight makes it easier on the shoulder and back. I recommend it for anyone wanting an inexpensive axe that gets the job done. The EMG 81 has a LOT of high end in this guitar. Others might prefer something warmer. I like the cut though and I use BOSS 7 band EQ to balance things out.

Very good guitar, but a change in the strings would be a benefit.

This is my main axe at the moment

This is my main guitar that I use for my band - it has a great feel. The body is extremely thin and lightweight, which is great for jumping around at our gigs. The neck is really thin, which allows for faster playing, the two control knobs simplify everything, and give you straight up options to work with.

Nice guitar...but doesn't stay in tune

By Shredder-Spe9p

from Maryland

It's definitely an exceptional guitar playability wise, however it lacked in the tone department and tuning. I switched these pickups out right away with a dimarzio tone zone and has noticably improved the sound of the guitar. Tuning wise...it can't intonate very well and goes out of tune pretty quickly. The 6th and 7th fret of the low e string are a little sharp as well. It plays very well though...although I prefer ebony fretboards the rosewood is very smooth and exceptional and due to the all access neck joint reaching the upper register is a breeze. Just replace the tuners and pickups and you'll have a quality instrument.

This guitar rocks!

When I tried this guitar at the music store, I absolutely fell in love with it. The neck and body are very thin, making it easy to play and super comfortable. The pickups are great, and you can get a real hard-rock sound out of it (if desired). I say if you can afford it, buy it.

great deal...

By xxxBitterRomance

from Wantage, NJ

i currently own this guitar and i definitely think it's a great deal. i've had it for a little over the year and the only thing i've had to change with it are the strings. the pickups are good and they can go anywhere from being a hard crunchy sound to a warm and smooth sound. its neck is thin and fast, and the guitar is very very light. it's going to be almost impossible for me to find a new guitar because so far, i haven't played any guitar in the price range that i like better. this is definitely a good value.

I bought this guitar last year. It kicks some *** and looks really good. It's easy to clean and sounds really good. I listen to alot of metal and rock and this guitar is good for that. I don't have an amp yet, but have played on one and it sounds kick***! I most definitely recommend this guitar!

By ZepHalenOU812

Well, to start off...My brother got this guitar for his birthday. He got the one with the orange finish. I played it every day after that, and now i have my own, of course in grey. I love this guitar. The neck is so fast, i can play anything on it. DEFINATELY No complaints. Best way i've spent my money in a while!!

Perfect for a range of styles, all-out excellence.

By Izaak

from Stillwater, OK

Tired of ugly and ungainly sounding guitars? Well hey, this one's not only a looker, but it sounds superb! It's five-pickup settings make it's music maleable so as to suit a jazz-ist, or metal rocker. Unlike the Fender Squiers, the strings don't buzz when you strum with all your might. The tuning system is marvellous. It's effortless to tune, except after being put into a gig bag where it'll knock out of tune with ease. Other than that, it's all good!

I just got it, and it looks cooler than they show on the pictures. It's got sort of a purplish tone that looks awesome. I love the thing.

Excellent

By PalLiDGeetar

I bought this guitar a while ago and it totally rips! I hooked it up to a Vetta head, a 1x12 and a 2x12 and it is really convenient for all the experimenting I can do with this.

I guess it's ok

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought this guitar on almost an impulse. it isn't "bad" but i don't find it great. I have a high expectation level for guitars and this is not what i expected. The build is ok, but the neck warped very quickly and the strap pegs fell out from craftmanship. But the wammy bar is my biggest complaint. I don't want to sound naggy, but if you or someone you want to get this for is a beginner, then get it for them but this is definitely not a professional guitar.

Nice step up for intermediate player, or cheap, ye

By shredrocks

Excellent feel, it really contours to your body, and very beautiful, especially in amber. But it has more than just great looks, its tone has a good amount of crunch on the lead pickup, but also a nice smooth, almost bluesy tone on some of the other pickups. It also works excellently with effects, unlike some of the other guitars I have tried, which have sounded warped and raspy with certain effects. Like I said, an excellent guitar, at a great price that, although not as easy on the wallets as some are, its quality, and tone more than make up for it. Definitely a good buy.

Great intermediate guitar.

I've owned this guitar for about two years now and I finally thought I should right a review. This thing is better than all of the other guitars in this price range. The neck is amazing, and the satellite tremolo is decent, too, although I play so aggressively that it goes out of tune quickly. But other than that, the pickups are a nice suprise, and the neck is amazing (I had to mention that again.) Very good beginner/intermediate guitar.

Great metal sound... small budget

I love the playability. I prefer larger frets for bending, though. Crunchy sound, very nice quality - I use this unplugged over my strats and others when learning new licks.

This guitar rules!

This guitar rules! When you switch it to the humbucker and the tone all the way down you can get super heavy riffs for rythem playing, yet amazing leads for solos. I only play Ibanez guitars and this guitar is the reason why.

The in-between for the buck.

By JonGeorgeXz-ZDa5U

from Lexington, KY

When looking for a guitar that can play a wide range of music such as metal and mellow, finding one at a price that's even remotley resonable is rare. That's where this one comes in. The SA 160 has beautiful tonal quality, frets that my small hands can manage, and the choice of pickups lets me have a strat and a rocker in one guitar! Anything like this costs MUCH MUCH MORE! The Ibanez SA 160 is the true value when looking for playing a wide rangeof music with a single guitar.
