Comments about Italia Imola 6 Electric Guitar:
I may have a few complaints about this guitar, but they're all easy fixes for me, and most people like the EZ-LOK tuners so that may not be an issue for you. Overall, If my Italia Imola 6 was the last one in existance, I wouldn't trade it for any other guitar that I'm aware of. Not the nicest Strat, Les Paul, or PRS. This guitar has a sound, look, and feel that I haven't experienced with any other guitar I've played, seen, or even heard of, and it's perfect for me.
The sound this guitar is capable of producing is completely unique to this guitar. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 in this catagory is the EZ-LOK tuners. I wasn't aware what they were when I bought this guitar and while there's nothing wrong with them and many people actually prefer them, I can't say I like them. Not a big deal though, I'm just going to put some classic style Gotoh's on it.
For the price, the quality of this guitar is good. Not great, but good. I'll name a few minor imperfections mine had.
First of all the edges of the pickguard have frayed plastic in some areas where they weren't smoothed (nothing I can't fix myself though). The inside of the F hole has residue from where it was painted that will wipe off and get on your fingers if you feel around in there (also not a big deal I just used a rag and some rubbing alcohol and now it's clean and smooth). The truss rod was very dirty with what looked like thick soot and made adjusting the neck difficult at first (also no big deal, I just cleaned it too). The body has some surface imperfections in the form of lines that run up the body towards the neck where the finish isn't completely smooth (Not very noticable though). There may be a few more but they're even more minor and I'm not here to nitpick.
It's completely understandable that a guitar as unique and amazing sounding as this will have to have some corners cut in order to be affordable as well, and in this case those corners appear to be purely cosmetic, and only noticable up close at that.
While I wasn't completely satisfied with the craftsmanship and attention to detail of this guitar, There's not another one like it on the market. So with a little TLC this guitar is truly a masterpiece in my opinion.
Comments about Italia Imola 6 Electric Guitar:
The split coil concept sounds like a gimmick, but is really quite musical. You can combine the low three strings of the bridge pickup (for definition of the low notes) with the round tones of the neck-pickup's top three strings. This combination in particular has a sweet clarity for both chords and soloing. Chord / melody playing really shines with this set up. Solo Jazz arrangements with walking bass lines also "pop" with the split pickup configuration.Over all, the guitar is built well. Like all imports, it needs a touch of adjustment when you take out of the box. The hardware is good though, so that isn't a problem. At this price it is a unique and musically valuable guitar for player who appreciate such unusual designs. Unless you are totally eccentric, I might not recommend it as your sole ax, but it sure is fun to play and has several unique "voices." The quality is easily as good or better than many Fender guitars, but the imported price gives it a bargain bonus. Songwriters might enjoy the way it brings new life to old chords and riffs.
