OVERVIEW

A helluva guitar with an affordable price tag.

The 2008 model Jackson JS30KV King V is an electric guitar wi scorching looks that come courtesy of its aggressively shaped alder body. Jumbo frets laid into a rosewood fretboard on a fast maple neck facilitate fleet finger work. Dual Jackson CVR2 humbucker pickups with master volume and tone controls deliver blistering tone that'll heat up the house.

Jackson's compound-radius fingerboard curves more dramatically at the nut for easy chording and flattens out as it approaches the neck joint for low-action bends without fretting out. With a more relaxed hand, you'll play better!

This is a great guitar! When I pulled it out of the box, I discovered it was born in India. My anxiety was quickly put to rest when I examined the axe. The only thing I noticed was the back plastic plate covering the electronics was not quite flush with the body.Next, I played the neck...impressive! Unlike the Gibson "V's", Jackson contoured the edges which makes playing much more comforable. The jumbo frets also makes for a fast neck (I had an SG once upon a time with the same feel).I immediately cleaned the guitar and changed the strings. The action was set a little too low, so I raised it to my satisfaction. The intonation was correct to my surprise and the guitar played extremely well. Before I bought the guitar, I tried to find out about the CVR2 pickups. Unfortunately, there was no information available. They sound like ceramic, although I can't say for sure. The quality of tone is impressive. They contain the right amount of "highs" which Gibson seems to be struggling to find on their 490/496/Burstbucker series.Since there is no vibrato system nor lockdown, the guitar plays easy and stays in tune. Also, there is better tone since most lockdown systems rob the guitar of this quality.Negatives: This is a "V"...don't expect to play this baby sitting down. Furthermore, this guitar is neck heavy. If you want a perfectly balanced axe, buy the body with a heavier wood.Overall rating: This is my sixth guitar I own and my third Jackson. I would rate this as good or better than most of my other guitars including Gibson and Fender.

This guitar was my second one following a b.c rich warlock. The warlock was horrible and this one wasn't a lot better. This was pretty cool because its a v and stuff but never buy a guitar based on looks. Sitting with this thing can really start to annoy you after a while. I was told this but I just thought I would get used to it. Thats not the case. Save up! the little extra time to get a good guitar will be so much better. Personally esp has been my point of no return. Ibanez is also good too. look around and remember to never get a guitar based on looks.

This guitar has an extremely low bridge and with no dead frets or anything, I recommend getting this FOR METAL! Very well tapping also.

Good Metal Axe

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought this guitar some time ago from a retailer. It plays pretty solid, although I prefer thicker necks this one is very thin, quick and easy to play. The only flaws of this guitar are that you will have to stretch your strings a lot for it to stay in tune if you do a lot of bends in your soloing. That and the original humbuckers are a bit too warm sounding for me, almost a muddy sound. Unless you opt for a higher gain humbucker you're going to have to put more energy into your picking (especially Hetfield-style downpicking!) to get a really heavy sound. For the price though, I can't complain. Stay away from the likes of B.C. Rich and Washburn in this price range.

WOW!!!

i got this guitar about 2 weeks ago. and damn, this is one of the best guitars ive played. i slapped on an distortion peddle and a 600 watt crate. this thing sounds like dave mustaine playing in my house. its amazing. the only downside is the body is heavier than the neck. so you have to hold up the neck when you play. but i easily got used to that. a definate buy.

The jackson JS30 King V is awesome.. It plays like a dream and has the all too powerful CVR2 pickupss. Which put out that oh so needed power through your amp.. It is a truely insane guitar.. I recomend this guitar to anybody it plays everything from blues to metal.. but hey you dont by a jackson, much less a jackson king v for blues.. now do you.. no its preped straight out of the box for shred.. so buy it.. shred it.. repeat!

Sweet Guitar

By allacdcrock

The King V is a really great guitar. The one and only downside to it is playing sitting down. I had to adjust to it but that only took about a week. The sound is a little bass heavy but still sounds great when pluged into a Marshall or even a cheap little starter amp.

Not too great, not even for beginners.

By BMar

from Pennsylvania

An old bandmate of mine owned this guitar, and I must say, it sounded DREADFUL. Nothing we did could make this guitar sound better. It has unimaginable amounts of fret buzz, the pickups sounded muffled and didn't offer much for the clean or distorted sound. I think the only upside to this guitar is the look, and even THAT is lacking without sharkfin inlays, etc. I would NOT recommend this guitar to anyone, not even beginners. Save up a little extra and get a better model! You'll thank me.

this is awesome!!

I really love this guitar! I first played it in a local music store and knew I had to had one. I looked around and found this site and found that this is a great deal. It is so awesome. I pulled it right out of the package and starting playing and it was absolutley amazing. The sound is great, although don't expect too much out of a clean channel. But the neck is smooth and thin, which makes for quick, smooth playing. I love the sound of this and would never get rid of it. You will love it too!!

Killer Metal AX!

OK. I just got this guitar today as my big Christmas gift. I maybe only 13 but, I have played a lot of guitars and by far this one was the best. I played a $1200 dollar RR3 and this one beats it. The Jackson CVR humbuckers give it a killer metal tone, but a warm clean tone. People have said the pickups should be replaced but no! The pickups are great i recomend it for all metal players!!!

I bought my Jackson in June, great for the value! I would highly recommend it, the pickups are not half bad, and it gives a great sound through whatever you put it through!

Okay... but instead try:

It's an overall good guitar, but if you're in the price range I would instead recommend the Dean Dave Mustaine signature V with bolton fretboard. Why? Better looks, better sound, nicer feel and exact same price.

The Original and Still the Best

I've been playing bass for coming up on 8 years now, and in my latest band exploit I was asked to play some rhythm, so I got a guitar and started learning. Now that's been 3 years ago, and I've played a lot of guitars in that time, from vintage Gibson's to brand new out of the box ESP's but by far this guitar is great for my two major genre's of music. It's got ballzy crunch for metal (of all kinds), and enough high end for the backing work I do during solos. Overall, great guitar for the price. Plus it just looks badass!

I got this back in June and it can KILL with the right sound and some time to adjust. This is my only guitar with a raised bridge and at first I was too keen on the way it played, things felt stiff and a little awkward. I started to sound a little more White Zombie than what I was going for. But after awhile, it just started feeling right. I beefed up the distortion and all of a sudden it crushes. This now my main guitars, only draw back is no whammy, but I don't care cause I don't play very many leads. Best guitar for the price you pay, a total work horse.

Awesome.

After being inspired by Bullet for My Valentine, I decided to follow their footsteps and get a V. When it first came in the mail, I hadn't even thought about sitting down. It was super uncomfortable at first, but you get the hang of it. Its the same standing up, you have to kinda pick the fretboard up. But its super awesome, I've had it for a month, and have no regrets.

Jackson

By shpock

from Vatican City

Overall I would say this guitar is a very nice guitar for the 'metal' lovers out there. However it's not very versatile at all. The playability is no doubt beyond impressive, and the 24 frets adds on to that. If you want a guitar for soloing and what not, I reccommend this guitar. If you're more into chords or psychadelic ambient stuff I would suggest getting a different guitar.

Great Feel, Not So Great Sound

By HateCrew6417

from Escanaba, MI

First disapointment that I noticed was Jackson forgot to put on the strap knob thing and playing a V without a strap is almost impossible. I put on some heavy strings and gave it a few strums after I fixed the problem. The neck has awesome playability. It's pretty easy to move fingers on the fretboard. The V took a while to get the feel of palm mute picking. After a month now, I still don't have a comlete feel for it. The design makes fast picking extreamy difficult. As for the sound goes, the pick ups have a very poor thrash metal sound, but they may be acceptable for other genres. In detail, there is an unnecessary amount of bass. Treble only exists on the high strings. Pinch harmonics are very uneasy to accomplish without a ton of gain and treble on the amp. I will eventually purchase a new bridge pickup to transform this guitar into a metal machine. An advantage of this guitar is the body. It is a very sharp lookin' guitar and the looks will impress you and also, this guitar is very light weight and comfortable to play while standing. I recomend this guitar is you plan to throw a better bridge pickup in it.

Metalhead's dream, at a low price

I've had this guitar for months, and its never been better. It's sound is much better than my old Fender Stratocaster and the features are better too (not to mention it just looks killer itself). It is a big change from the Strat, since it is kinda neck heavy, but I got over that. It also came with the neck not adjusted properly (however was an easier fix than I thought). This is a definate guitar for upcoming metal/hard rocker, and it doesnt wipe out your bank account either.

Exceptional Quality

I picked one up in a music shop, and the first thing I noticed was the playability. This thing has unsurpased playability. NO BUZZES. And its tone is otherworldly. The pickups may be knockoffs of EMGs, but they still have very high output.
