Comments about Jackson KVXT King V X Series Electric Guitar:

My brother surprised me with this guitar for Christmas. It's one of the most comfortable guitars Iv'e ever played! The one thing that I had a problem with was the wiring. I guess I got one with bad wiring. It had this horrible feedback and scratchy noise when I wasn't playing it. I bought new pickups for it and it fixed the problem since the pickups had new wiring. Overall, the guitar is fantastic!

Comments about Jackson KVXT King V X Series Electric Guitar:

PROS: Plays nightmarishly fast, fully adjustable bridge, neck-thru stability, solid tuners and EMG's (although these passive versions aren't to everyone's liking).

CONS: Massive fret buzz from the manufacturer (some of my frets remain this way without more intensive fretwork :/), pickups not grounded in the best way and leads to undesirable squealing at times.

PLEASE NOTE: NOT neck-heavy, NOT thin-sounding, NOT lacking sustain. ;)

        Good, not great

        By William Newnum

        from Bryan, TX

Comments about Jackson KVXT King V X Series Electric Guitar:

Note: Rather than configuring my 30W Vox hybrid amp for this guitar, I played it in my "standard" configuration. This is my first review, but I plan to do more, and will use the same setup for each guitar (electric). I want to be reviewing the guitar, not the combo of the amp and guitar. I originally set this up as my perfect hard rock settings for a Custom HH Tele with two Seymour Duncans. It's on the "molton" setting with lots of gain and treble, a little less midrange, and moderate bass. I have just enough reverb to be noticed and am not using any other effects.

I've had this guitar for a few weeks now. I recently turned 40, and I hadn't played a V since I was about 16 or 17. I've always wanted one, and I guess this was a midlife crisis purchase.

At this point, I am *slightly* disappointed in the guitar. First, the EMG pickups...
I bought this guitar to have the perfect axe for my first loves: Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Ozzy, AC/DC, Kiss, Van Halen (pre Hagar), etc. The pickups are PERFECT for power chords. This is the absolute perfect rhythmn guitar for this kind of music.

However, I bought this to "shred," as my nephews would say. Playing lead, this guitar does well with the highest notes, say above the 10th or 12th fret on the B or high E strings. As you go down in tone, however, the sound becomes disappointingly weak. As hot as my amp settings are, I expected better. This could very well be from the amp settings (so much treble) and the lack of a compressor. However, my Epiohone Les Paul and HH Tele both outperform this guitar for playing leads on the same settings without pedals.

The sustain is also disappointing on this guitar. I guess you get spoiled playing a Les Paul, but the Telecaster has better sustain too. I will see what I can do with the amp to improve this.

One last thought, which doesn't affect my rating. Obviously, you need a strap to play this guitar, but the guitar is top heavy. As you switch from the higher frets to the lowest ones, the head has a tendency to "fall." It's not a big thing because you learn to anticipate it after a short while, but I felt that it was worth mentioning.
Standard features of high quality. It's got two EMG humbuckers, a three way selector switch, which is very smooth to use, two nice metal knobs: one volume and the other tone, and a hard tail bridge, which was one of the selling points of the guitar to me.
It all seems very well put together. I love having metal knobs over plastic. I have an Epiphone Les Paul and the bridge volume knob came loose within two weeks of ownership. This isn't going to happen on my King V. The pickup selection switch is much nicer too. The guitar is made of basswood, feels fairly light but solid, and has a very nice silver paint job.
All in all a good value. Very nice hardware assembled in India. Two complaints. 1. At this price level, I bought the silver, I think that a gig bag should come standard. I paid for one. 2. The setup was *terrible*. It took several full turns on the screw on both sides of the bridge to raise the strings enough to get rid of fret buzz. The worst I have ever heard.
