Jackson

A top-o'-the-line, neck-thru tone machine for the serious shredder.

Titanic tone and fantastic flexibility come from the humbucking Seymour Duncan TB4 bridge and SH1N neck pickups with 3-way selector. Resounding resonance is achieved with a thru-body, quarter-sawn maple neck and alder body. Original Floyd Rose double-locking trem in a recessed bridge cavity combines with a bound ebony 24-fret fingerboard, scooped lower bout, and reduced heel for limitless playing freedom. Scorching Jackson looks are enhanced by the carved maple top, bound headstock, black hardware, and custom green ghost flames paint job on black. 25-1/2" scale, 1-11/16" nut.

Jackson's compound-radius fingerboard curves more dramatically at the nut for easy chording and flattens out as it approaches the neck joint for low-action bends without fretting out. With a more relaxed hand, you'll play better! Includes case.

Here is MY personal review. Please know, I am not an EXPERT guitarist, but I have been a mechinist by trade for over 4 decades. I mention this because I would like readers to understand that paying close attention to detail in my line of work is essential and therefore would like to pass my opinion on to you.

In general, I believe people use "mint, pristine, perfect and professional" way to loosely. I do not. Nothing on Earth is perfect but, I find this guitar model and manufacture to be pretty close to it. Can this guitar be used on a space mission? I don't know what the answer is for that but I do know, manufacturing anything of supreme quality doesn't come easy.

So I've been on this Jackson for about two weeks now and my impression hasen't changed, but please know, I only needed 1 minute on it to base my full review on itself as well as regarding a comparative review to my American Fender HSS Deluxe Strat, Gibson ES 339 and Insonesian Squier EOS Strat. With that, I will say this Jackson Soloist is the easiest to play. Yes, the others are of a certain high quality but in my mind, this Jackson wins the prize. And yes, it is a different animal as compared to the others. But, whether or not that is the case, the sound is "sick awesome" and it IS EXTREMELY smooth all around like nothing I have found out of the box thus far. So, right out of the box, no neck or string lube, it is highly polished in all senses of the word and feels like teflon, especially during bends. Anything can be tweaked but assembly and setup is right there. This factor alone separates the men from the boys.

I was almost sold on the Soloist. Couldn't break down and buy one without playing it first. So I went down to a not so local guitar shop that had one in stock and jammed on it for a bit. I brought an FX unit and my main guitar (the one I was hoping to replace) with me so I knew how the soloist would sound and feel compared to what I currently used. I probably jammed on the two for about an hour and here's my conclusion...this guitar is nowhere near what the price tag says it is. Almost immediately I didn't like the guitar. Just holding it felt like I was holding a toy. It was WAY too light for my taste. I said to myself, okay, I might not like the way it looks or how light it is, but let's see how it sounds. I plugged in and almost puked (okay it's not that bad). The guitar sounds thin as hell, there's NO meat behind it. I switched to my guitar (a moded Jackson PS4 with EMGs and new neck) and my GOD, that sounded awesome. There's no way it was the rig. The soloist felt no faster than my guitar. Maybe the soloist just doesn't fit me, it's probably perfect for hundreds of guitarists out there. I just thought I'd express my opinion. But one thing I should mention is the quality. The guitar was absolutely flawless. That was pretty impressive. But who cares how a guitar looks when you don't like how it sounds?

This guitar is as good as they say. Pretty much all the reviews are right. Great feel, excellent workmanship. Exceeds expectations in every way. If I had to nit pick the pickups could be swapped out especially the neck pickup, but that's a matter of personal taste in tone. What can't be understated is that this thing is so comfortable and ergonomic to play. It just feels right. Also the neck thru construction really shines in access to the higher frets. You don't realize it until you play it just how easy it is to play on even the highest frets. Since I got this a a month ago I haven't even taken my Les Paul out of it's case.

          Jackson SL2h Soloist

          By Chicken,Beef, or Pork

          from Rancho Cucamonga, California

Comments about Jackson SL2H Custom USA Guitar:

Ebony fretboard is fantastically smooth and easy to play. Pickups are a 7/10 I replaced them with DiMarzio Liquidfire and Crunch Lab in the bridge. With those pickups the guitar is the best sounding shredder's guitar I've ever played, which is a testiment to the quality of the wood the Jackson people assembled this with. I was a little disapointed that they didn't do anything special with the electronics like some split coil action would of been nice since you fork out so much to buy this guitar, i would have appreciated more sound options than the three pickup seletions. I do like the fact that they've placed a little allen wrench holder behind the headstock for the added convenience when tuning, you don't have to go look for an allen wrench, you've got one right there. I love playing the guitar, it's a great piece of machinery. I'm really satisfied with it.

          Can't get better than this

          By Jacksons_for_life_8750

Comments about Jackson SL2H Custom USA Guitar:

This was my third guitar that i owned. My first was a vintage strat from my uncle, and then a higher end Epiphone SG, and then i bought this, and i fell in love with it. I've had it for about 4 years now, and when i needed a good rhythm guitar i went to the Jackson custom Shop. This guitar was the basis of my custom now (main difference being 3 humbuckers). I can't see owning a better stock guitar than this. IT blows any Les Paul out of the water.

Comments about Jackson SL2H Custom USA Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for about 18 years now and have played just about every top end guitar out there. I own a Gibson Les Paul and an american strat deluxe but this guitar is by far the best one I have ever played! From the craftmanship to the playability this guitar puts all others to shame. I will be enjoying this guitar for years to come.

          Hard to put down

          By Ampbox

          from USA

Comments about Jackson SL2H Custom USA Guitar:

The resonance of the neck-thru design is amazing. And the combination of ebony and maple makes every note plucked highly audible. Even under high gain does the acoustic sound easily come through. The stock D'Addario strings are the perfect compliment to the Soloist; as they allow your treble notes to cut clearly and your lower strings never sound muddy, but remain clear. These also last awhile, too. The JB bridge pickup gives a perfectly distorted crunch. The treble strings shine clearly here, and the low notes stay thick and defined. It may not be the 'heaviest' humbucker for Metal, but it's THE best in-betweener. The artificial harmonics are truly great and this pickup sings. The '59 is really nice for soloing; it stays clear, and it's good combined with the JB for cleans.

          TheMost Perfect Instrument Ever?

          By Matt-SzxBc

          from Houston Texas

Comments about Jackson SL2H Custom USA Guitar:

I ordered mine Monday, and it arrived Friday. Mine is a SL2HF. Once the case was opened, I saw the overall beauty of the trans black finish. Once plugged in, the instrument was perfectly tuned, and the setup was excellent, extremely low action. Other high end brands could learn from Jackson's commitment to excellence, as far as final inspection is concerned. The guitar practically plays itself, and I was surprised how nice, and even the Seymour's tone was plugged into my Marshall AVT150. This is one fine instrument that I will enjoy playing for many years!

Own 12 guitars, Jackson is best

          By JT

          Ask me a question

Comments about Jackson SL2H Custom USA Guitar:

I have 12 guitars, from hand-made boutique to Gibson and Fender, the Jackson is my hands down favorite, the neck is the best of any guitar I've ever played in the 45 years I've been playing. The only thing I would change is the volume knob is too close to the strings and I sometimes hit it when I'm doing a fast passage and I end up losing volume, I would rather see it placed lower on the body away from the strings.I play everything from country rock to fusion jazz, to death metal and this is the perfect axe for it all.

          Killer Guitar

          By TheMetalHobbit

          from WPB, FL

Comments about Jackson SL2H Custom USA Guitar:

Let me just start by saying that I have owned this guitar for about a year so I feel I have had ample time to make an accurate review. Also I would like to point out that I am a versatile player. The Jackson custom shop kills every other custom shop out there, the craftsmanship is incredible but the sound what makes this guitar. Out of all the other custom shops that I've bought from in my life, even the tone connoisseurs at Gibson, none have rivaled the Jackson's sound. Also Jackson has incredibly fair prices based on the quality of these amazing instruments, no other custom shop sell's at these prices and no other custom shop can rival the quality, sound, and playability either. Extremely comfortable neck, contours your hand like it was made specifically for you. The Ebony board is smooth as can be and the fretwork is obviously flawless. The Duncans provide a rich and articulate tone but are a bit on the lower gain side for my tastes. The original Floyd is the best around. I run this guitar through a Peavey 6505+ Head and a celestion equipped Marshall Cab and the tone is unparalleled to anything I have heard in the past based on my tastes of course. I would recommend this model to any musician making the jump to their first handcrafted guitar, no matter what your style this guitar delivers!

Perfect tone. Perfect playablity. It's to bad Jackson is only marketed to metal players. Its looks can be very conservative depending on which color you choose and any humbucker tone can be dialed in. I will love this guitar for many years to come.
