The X factor = fantastic tone, ultra-fast playability and unbelievable value.

The Jackson X Series Soloist SLX is loaded with purebred Jackson DNA, like neck-through-body construction, hot humbucking pickups, bound compound-radius fingerboards and Jackson’s distinctive shark-fin inlays. Classic Jackson models imbued with the X factor, with fantastic tone, ultra-fast playability and unbelievable value for 21st century guitarists.

The Jackson Soloist SLX has a basswood body with a through-body maple neck. It has a Duncan Designed alnico HB102N pickup and a high-output ceramic HB102B humbucking pickup. Its bound compound-radius rosewood fingerboard curves more dramatically at the nut for easy chording and flattens out as it approaches the neck joint for low-action bends without fretting out. Other features include a Floyd Rose Special double-locking two-point tremolo, 24 jumbo frets and three-way pickup switching.

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

I have now owned this guitar for about six months and I am not impressed with it. I have had it in the shop three times for warranty repairs, and it's going back for it's fourth. Every repair has been hardware related.
The Floyd Rose Special and the locking nut are junk. I saw that the reviews on the Floyd Rose Special were pretty good, but I have had nothing but trouble out of mine. I own several original Floyd Rose equipped guitars and this thing is nowhere near the quality. I will probably install a German made Floyd Rose.
The EMGHZ pickups that where in it sounded bad. I replaced them with the EMG 81/85 combo. I have read that the HZ pickups that came in this guitar are the passive versions of the 81/85 combo. They don't sound the same at all. If the HZ pickups sounded as good as the active ones, I would have left them in.
In my other review on this guitar, I said: "To me, it is a bargain to spend a little more on this and have something that plays and sounds as good as my USA Soloist". What I intended to say was: "To me, it is a bargain to spend a little more (upgrade the pickups), and have something that plays and sounds as good as my USA Soloist".
In summery, the only thing good about this guitar is the wood. By the time you spend the money to upgrade this thing, you could have bought a lot better guitar. You have been warned.

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

So i had been looking at this guitar for months and months and was absolutely certain was the one I wanted next. Unfortunately I'm in a pretty rural area so besides the guitar center 45 minutes away, theres no guitar stores near me. So I went ahead, ordered it online, and was wicked excited for it to come in. When it did it was out of tune and when i went to tune it, not the screw but the casing holding the bridge in placed popped right out. Both of them. It won't stay in tune for more than a minute and a couple pegs were loose. I'd say send it in to get repaired or do something with it but it's brand new it shouldn't have to be repaired right away. I ordered the white one and I don't know maybe its just the lighting or something but it looks more like a cream color than the bright white I was under the impression of. There were a few blue marks on it when it came in and I'm pretty sure it's just a defective one or a factory reject so I'm sending it back and looking at a different one. Unfortunately.

Comments about Jackson SLX Soloist X Series Electric Guitar:

Ok, let me start by saying that I wanted to like this guitar more than I do. I am a big fan of Jackson guitars and this is the third one I own. I bought it as a "beater", so I could keep scratches and scars off of my 1991 USA soloist.
The burnt Cherry quilted top looks nowhere near as good as the pictures in the sales ads. This is true even with the photos on Jackson's web site. The finish has more of a yellow and brown tint. I'm not saying that it don't look good; it just doesn't look like the pictures. The quilt in the wood grain looks nowhere near as good as the photos either.
I have already had to replace one of the allen head screws in the lock nut. It was way too short and it looked like it had been cut off with a pair of side cutter pliers. The screw was only catching one thread of my lock nut.
The volume and tone controls feel cheap. Anyone who owns an expensive electric guitar, and has played a cheap import knows what I mean.
The pickups are terrible. I know there are a lot of people who like EMG pickups, and I don't want to offend anyone, but these are bad. The EMGHZ pickup tone is non-existent. They just don't cut through.
The Floyd Rose Special has a good feel to it and works well. I have heard that the sustain block and saddles can be upgraded to make this tremolo awesome. I may do this later, but I have had no problems with the original equipment.
The construction of the wood in this guitar is very good. This is good because the wood is the only part of the guitar to carry the lifetime warranty. Electronics and hardware only have a one year warranty.
The neck feels as good and as fast as my USA Soloist. That alone was reason enough for me to keep this guitar. The body feels slightly lighter in weight.
In summary, I like this guitar. To me, it is a bargain to spend a little more on this and have something that plays and sounds as good as my USA Soloist. I just think that if someone is on a budget, they could do better for the money.
