OVERVIEW

A top-o'-the-line, neck-thru tone machine for the serious shredder.

A serious, neck-thru shredding machine for the discriminating rocker.Massive tone and sonic flexibility from the dual Seymour Duncan humbuckers - a TB4 at the bridge, and SH1N in the neck position, controlled with a 3-way selector. Incredible sustain from the thru-body, quarter-sawn maple neck, alder body and carved maple top. Original Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo system in a recessed bridge cavity for plenty of whammy power. Also features a bound ebony 25-1/2" scale, 24-fret fingerboard, scooped lower bout, and super-smooth heel for limitless fret access. Eye-popping Jackson looks, thanks to the bound headstock, black hardware, and custom paint job - green ghost flames on black. Jackson's compound-radius fretboard features a more dramatic curve at the 1-11/16" nut for easy chording, and flattens out as it nears the neck joint for low-action bends without fretting out. Better living through enhanced shredding!Use the drop-down menu above to choose colors and other options.

Here is MY personal review. Please know, I am not an EXPERT guitarist, but I have been a mechinist by trade for over 4 decades. I mention this because I would like readers to understand that paying close attention to detail in my line of work is essential and therefore would like to pass my opinion on to you.

In general, I believe people use "mint, pristine, perfect and professional" way to loosely. I do not. Nothing on Earth is perfect but, I find this guitar model and manufacture to be pretty close to it. Can this guitar be used on a space mission? I don't know what the answer is for that but I do know, manufacturing anything of supreme quality doesn't come easy.

So I've been on this Jackson for about two weeks now and my impression hasen't changed, but please know, I only needed 1 minute on it to base my full review on itself as well as regarding a comparative review to my American Fender HSS Deluxe Strat, Gibson ES 339 and Insonesian Squier EOS Strat. With that, I will say this Jackson Soloist is the easiest to play. Yes, the others are of a certain high quality but in my mind, this Jackson wins the prize. And yes, it is a different animal as compared to the others. But, whether or not that is the case, the sound is "sick awesome" and it IS EXTREMELY smooth all around like nothing I have found out of the box thus far. So, right out of the box, no neck or string lube, it is highly polished in all senses of the word and feels like teflon, especially during bends. Anything can be tweaked but assembly and setup is right there. This factor alone separates the men from the boys.

I was almost sold on the Soloist. Couldn't break down and buy one without playing it first. So I went down to a not so local guitar shop that had one in stock and jammed on it for a bit. I brought an FX unit and my main guitar (the one I was hoping to replace) with me so I knew how the soloist would sound and feel compared to what I currently used. I probably jammed on the two for about an hour and here's my conclusion...this guitar is nowhere near what the price tag says it is. Almost immediately I didn't like the guitar. Just holding it felt like I was holding a toy. It was WAY too light for my taste. I said to myself, okay, I might not like the way it looks or how light it is, but let's see how it sounds. I plugged in and almost puked (okay it's not that bad). The guitar sounds thin as hell, there's NO meat behind it. I switched to my guitar (a moded Jackson PS4 with EMGs and new neck) and my GOD, that sounded awesome. There's no way it was the rig. The soloist felt no faster than my guitar. Maybe the soloist just doesn't fit me, it's probably perfect for hundreds of guitarists out there. I just thought I'd express my opinion. But one thing I should mention is the quality. The guitar was absolutely flawless. That was pretty impressive. But who cares how a guitar looks when you don't like how it sounds?

Comments about Jackson USA Select SL2H Soloist Electric Guitar:

There are three standards in electric guitar. The Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster and the Jackson Soloist. My only problem is the volume pot is to close to the picking hand. Also, you would think with such a expensive guitar it would come with a guitar strap and some case candy.

This guitar is as good as they say. Pretty much all the reviews are right. Great feel, excellent workmanship. Exceeds expectations in every way. If I had to nit pick the pickups could be swapped out especially the neck pickup, but that's a matter of personal taste in tone. What can't be understated is that this thing is so comfortable and ergonomic to play. It just feels right. Also the neck thru construction really shines in access to the higher frets. You don't realize it until you play it just how easy it is to play on even the highest frets. Since I got this a a month ago I haven't even taken my Les Paul out of it's case.

I have been playing guitar for about 18 years now and have played just about every top end guitar out there. I own a Gibson Les Paul and an american strat deluxe but this guitar is by far the best one I have ever played! From the craftmanship to the playability this guitar puts all others to shame. I will be enjoying this guitar for years to come.

Comments about Jackson USA Select SL2H Soloist Electric Guitar:

This was my third guitar that i owned. My first was a vintage strat from my uncle, and then a higher end Epiphone SG, and then i bought this, and i fell in love with it. I've had it for about 4 years now, and when i needed a good rhythm guitar i went to the Jackson custom Shop. This guitar was the basis of my custom now (main difference being 3 humbuckers). I can't see owning a better stock guitar than this. IT blows any Les Paul out of the water.

Comments about Jackson USA Select SL2H Soloist Electric Guitar:

Ebony fretboard is fantastically smooth and easy to play. Pickups are a 7/10 I replaced them with DiMarzio Liquidfire and Crunch Lab in the bridge. With those pickups the guitar is the best sounding shredder's guitar I've ever played, which is a testiment to the quality of the wood the Jackson people assembled this with. I was a little disapointed that they didn't do anything special with the electronics like some split coil action would of been nice since you fork out so much to buy this guitar, i would have appreciated more sound options than the three pickup seletions. I do like the fact that they've placed a little allen wrench holder behind the headstock for the added convenience when tuning, you don't have to go look for an allen wrench, you've got one right there. I love playing the guitar, it's a great piece of machinery. I'm really satisfied with it.

Comments about Jackson USA Select SL2H Soloist Electric Guitar:

I have 12 guitars, from hand-made boutique to Gibson and Fender, the Jackson is my hands down favorite, the neck is the best of any guitar I've ever played in the 45 years I've been playing. The only thing I would change is the volume knob is too close to the strings and I sometimes hit it when I'm doing a fast passage and I end up losing volume, I would rather see it placed lower on the body away from the strings.I play everything from country rock to fusion jazz, to death metal and this is the perfect axe for it all.

Comments about Jackson USA Select SL2H Soloist Electric Guitar:

Let me just start by saying that I have owned this guitar for about a year so I feel I have had ample time to make an accurate review. Also I would like to point out that I am a versatile player. The Jackson custom shop kills every other custom shop out there, the craftsmanship is incredible but the sound what makes this guitar. Out of all the other custom shops that I've bought from in my life, even the tone connoisseurs at Gibson, none have rivaled the Jackson's sound. Also Jackson has incredibly fair prices based on the quality of these amazing instruments, no other custom shop sell's at these prices and no other custom shop can rival the quality, sound, and playability either. Extremely comfortable neck, contours your hand like it was made specifically for you. The Ebony board is smooth as can be and the fretwork is obviously flawless. The Duncans provide a rich and articulate tone but are a bit on the lower gain side for my tastes. The original Floyd is the best around. I run this guitar through a Peavey 6505+ Head and a celestion equipped Marshall Cab and the tone is unparalleled to anything I have heard in the past based on my tastes of course. I would recommend this model to any musician making the jump to their first handcrafted guitar, no matter what your style this guitar delivers!

Perfect tone. Perfect playablity. It's to bad Jackson is only marketed to metal players. Its looks can be very conservative depending on which color you choose and any humbucker tone can be dialed in. I will love this guitar for many years to come.

I've wanted a Soloist for years but couldn't justify to myself the price or need for one due to owning everything from a Gibson '95 Page Signature model, Guild B.May Red Special, Fender Strat, Ibanez RG470, & a variety of other axes past and present, I finally bought one this past Xmas and was blown out by how amazing this thing is built and how it sounds through my Marshall JCM900. It's built tough, the neck rules, & it couldn't be more black. It gets a 9 for lack of a 5 way selector switch as well as being a bit more pricey than I'd have liked.

This is the best guitar I've ever played. Every time I pick it up it amazes me. When I took it out of the case it was set up perfectly and suprisingly still in tune. It has a great sound for pretty much anything you would ever want to play. It is definetely a guitar for someone wanting to push their playing to a new level or a shredder that needs an axe that won't hold them back. I love Jackson but anyone can appreciate the playabity, the overall comfort and the great sound that this guitar provides. If you can afford it, get it.

I bought my current SL2 in 2005. It is an incredible instrument. I have owned several jacksons over the years starting as early as 1987 (custom ordered). I have only one problem with this one since that time. The 3 way selector switch has gone bad. I called Femder music corp because, not only mine, but also a couple friend's jacksons have experienced the same issue. I was basically told that it was my problem. What happened to the good old days when Jackson music corps would take care of their customers. It is really sad that an instrument that costs this much does not come with better customer care than that. I would still buy another one and will buy more before everything is said and done, but wish that Fender would take a look at how they care for customers.

I ordered mine Monday, and it arrived Friday. Mine is a SL2HF. Once the case was opened, I saw the overall beauty of the trans black finish. Once plugged in, the instrument was perfectly tuned, and the setup was excellent, extremely low action. Other high end brands could learn from Jackson's commitment to excellence, as far as final inspection is concerned. The guitar practically plays itself, and I was surprised how nice, and even the Seymour's tone was plugged into my Marshall AVT150. This is one fine instrument that I will enjoy playing for many years!

Have a few axes. Charvels, (real SD ones), a jap Charvel, and of course....Jackie! Jackson did everything right with the Soloist, it is the guitar most guys are looking for when they want the true Metal crunch and sounds hard to find with other brands. Other guitar brands pretty-up their axes to catch the eyes at first, but, a few weeks later, the troubles begin with quality. Hey, not everyone can afford top line instruments, however, if you are just starting or are intermediate, do yourself a favor, get a well made guitar from a reputable maker. I highly recommend Jacksons, either the korean ones or the better ones. You will thank yourself later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pick one of these instruments up and you will fall in love. If you play heavy music, you can't do any better for the money than a top-end Jackson. I definitely recommend spending the extra bucks for an SL2H as opposed to an SL3 or SL4 - the bound ebony neck is worth it! I could go on an on about this beautiful instrument, but I can sum it up in three words: THE REAL THING.

I wasn't able to play this guitar beforehand - no shops in town had one, so I was buying blind. I was able to play a similar guitar (Japan version), and decided the SL2 was better for my picking style than the SL1.
After ordering, the guitar arrived quickly. The case is nice - inside, the guitar was beautiful. The craftsmanship and attention to detail on this guitar are second to none. The finish is beautiful (transparent green). The hardware is likewise top-notch. As far as playing, I've never played a Floyd, so that took me a few minutes to get tuned up properly, and get used to palm muting on that type of bridge. The guitar is fast. I like the weight of the guitar - it's actually about the same weight as the current Les Paul Standards. I like the clean and dirty sounds I can get from this guitar. I have zero complaints - the guitar is everything I wanted and more. Highly recommend!

This guitar rules. I know a lot about guitars, construction methods, and general history about guitars and this is one of the finest I have ever played. Thinking about getting a gibson or fender? Think again. Everything on the Soloist is better than Gibson or Fender, short of a 20k custom model. It has neck through for sustain, and the duncans rule. I gave features a 9 because I think it should have coil taps built in, but that is seriously the only bad thing about this guitar.

Great variety of tones, build quality is amazing, upper fret access is incredible.
