Jasmine by Takamine

An affordable dreadnought acoustic-electric guitar with a great look and sound.

The Takamine Jasmine ES33C is an acoustic-electric guitar with good acoustic sound, and well-balanced lows, mids, and highs. The ES33C is a dreadnought with a cutaway spruce top, lacewood back and sides, tortoise body and neck bindings, and die-cast tuners.

Some of Takamine's finest luthiers oversee every aspect of the design, construction, and quality control of the beautiful looking, beautiful sounding Jasmine guitars.

The Jasmine ES33C comes equipped with a Shadow LC 4 preamplifier/EQ, which provides boost/cut sliders for volume, bass, low-mid, high-mid, and treble. Having control over two bands of mid frequencies is a nice touch, along with a phase switch to aid in suppressing feedback. And, all of the low-profile controls are intelligently recessed below the edges of the preamp enclosure, reducing the possibility of changing settings by inadvertently brushing against them. It even comes with a hardshell case. Inside every Jasmine you'll find the heart and soul of a Takamine.

  • Spruce Top Dreadnought Cutaway
  • Lacewood Back & Sides
  • Tortoise Body & Neck Bindings
  • Die Cast Tuners

Quality Issues

Features:
Quality:

Starting from the top of the neck

1.  Neck required adjustment for intonation and buzz.

2.  Every fret was different in height (Using straight edge and rocker)

3.  Frets were rough up the neck  (Leveling, recrowning, end filing and polishing restored frets, some of these actions should not have been necessary)

4.  When I loosened the strings to do the fret work, the nut fell out.  It was apparent that an attempt had been made to glue it in at the factory.  (Cleaned groove and reglued)

5.  Major Production Error  Taking a look with an inspection mirror through the sound hole revealed:

A.  The bridge plate was splintered because a backing block was not used when drilling holes

Bridge work will almost certainly need to be done in the future.

B.  Framing and bracing glue missing or incorrectly applied.  The top of the guitar is bowed below the bridge

Value:

Based on the workmanship, I put minimal value on this guitar and sell cheaper guitars in my shop that have less problems out of the box

I got this guitar about 4 years ago and it is one of a better decisions I've made. Since I've bought this I've had only a slight problem that the 1st string would buzz a little bit but that went away after some playing. The guitar has a beautiful bright sound to it and sounds just as good plugged it. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great price for a great guitar.

Bought this from a local dealer new a while back cause I needed to do some recording with an acoustic and I "thought" I was gonna plug it in (I ended up micing it)  It performs nicely.  The action is good if not typical for any acoustic...the strongs are decent...fit and finish is decent...  I've never really owned any high end acoustics, but I seem to have a knack for finding the good inexpensive ones. Fret finish is decent, the electronics sound decent...  actually they do get a thumbs up for using a 9 volt that can be installed with the strings on.  My last guitar you had to take the strings loose and install it through the sound hole. Overall I would recommend this guitar to anyone, pro or not, that needs an acoustic for writing songs, campfires, and the occasional recording. It has done all of those things just fine for me.

The Jasmine ES33C is a good sounding guitar.  The price is fairly good and it comes with its own well built hard case.  The one I got may be just a poor sample in the lot.  It came with a crack washer on the #6 tuning key.  Musician's Friend is willing to refund me for getting it fixed locally.  There are a few additional minor quality issues.  The ?inside? of the guitar was very dusty.  I had to blow the saw dust out with my compressor.  The glossy finish is not evenly done (thick in some areas and thin in others). The tuning keys are not properly mounted (I had to tighten some of the nuts.  The strings are put on sloppily.  The G string snapped when I started to tune it.  It did not come with a manual for the electronics, and Jasmine?s web site has no information on the pre-amp, I still do not know what the "phase" switch does.  For the price, it is a pretty good sounding guitar.  I am keeping it.

Great construction of this instrument! The guitar is comparable to US and German and Japanese quality... Every wood working seam, joint and glued part was done to perfection... Great design by Takamine and great quality control as well. A thin neck makes it play like an electric guitar with tones that is equal or surpasses the Martins and Taylors... It stays in tune very well... The tuning knobs are good quality as well as the onboard electronics.... Cosmetic flaws include a paint smudge on the word jasmine on the head stock and a few ruff edges from the frets easily felt while sliding your hands down the neck. Who cares about that when you have a great sounding/playing guitar w/a nice solid case and they even throw in a 9vt battery for the active p/u... Great price.. Can't beat it!!! Good job Takemine! Not bad for Chinese mfg quality...
