Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
All in all this a nice solid body resonator guitar. While the sounds from it are unique, it does not carry over a traditional acoustic resonator sound, which is not a bad thing. After jamming on it for a while, I really did start liking the sound and the ease on the bends. I have recorded a couple if songs using it and it adds to some depth of my collection. Not bad, not bad at all.

Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
I purchased this guitar as repair needed, from musician's freind.. The repair wasn't hard. There was a ground wire touching a hot wire, easy fix... There was some real set up problems, but nothing someone who has some experience couldn't fix.. Once all that was corrected, it's now a GEM.. I don't know if every one of these has problems, so you are taking chances, NO QUALITY CONTROL AT THE MANUFACTURING point! If you can find a good price on one used, and your a bit handy, this guitar has great potential. Once set up properly sounds excellant..
Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
Lousy materials, put together poorly. The ONLY thing this has going for it is its looks. I had this hunk of junk for six months - it's the onlt one of my 54 guitars that I have sold and I couldn't wait to get rid of it. I sold it to a kid for $50 and felt guilty about it.
Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
The set up and sound is awful. The cone was SCREWED into the body. The lip the cone sits on was very, very rough. The under saddle pickup makes adjusting bridge tension impossible. The neck pickup is just junk packed into a chrome cover. The pots and hardware are adequate.I scraped and sanded the inside for better cone contact, replaced the cone and spider, put a K&K reso pick up in it and an old Ibanez humbucker in the neck. I am still experimenting with saddles. I am still fighting to get a good tone and have come seriously close to pitching this hunk of crap into the back yard. JT knows nothing about building a resonator guitar. I will not give up. For the amount of work necessary to make this a usable instrument and the replacement parts necessary the price is way out of line. If you can find a used one for $50 to $100 and you have rudimentary woodworking skills, go for it.
Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
The red model is a stunning looking instrument. The finish, binding, fretboard and headstock are as good as any other guitar. I own 2 other resophonic style guitars and the buzzing of the small strings is not normal. So I took off the strings and looked at the spider bridge to find the problem. Most of the wood screw were loose or the wood was stripped out. The chrome plating on the cover disk was very poor quality. The cone was screwed down to the body of the guitar which is supposed to be free floating and contacting only on the outer edge of the opening and the spider. When I removed the cone I found the problem. The cavity of the guitar was too shallow for the cone. The wire's insulation was mashed between the cone and the plywood body. The rim of the cavity where the come rests was rough cut plywood and not smooth in the least. The cone is the heart of any resophonic instrument, it can't make contact on the underside or it can't ring. So I went to work sanding and priming the rim and gouging out the bottom of the cavity plywood till the cone cleared on the underside. The cone had some burrs where the screws went through so I grounded them smooth, and reset the cone in place with a few drops of super glue. put the cover and strings back on and the buzz was gone. This guitar plays very good now although the pots are cheap and they cut out when the knobs are turned too far from the middle. Normally I don't fool with a new guitar like this but I waited 8 months to get it off a slow boat from China. Now it plays and sounds as good as it looks.
Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
I bought this guitar almost on impulse after reading some reviews. It seemed like a decent bang for the buck and a great guitar for the price. I received it and was truly disappointed. The high 'E' buzzes and is useless, the action is colossal (this is to be expected on this sort of guitar though) the sound output isn't that great, the neck feel is muggy. The guitar itself plugged in sounds very bland and lacks brightness, and the twang simply isn't that prevelant. I'm taking it to my tech this weekend to get it reset up and to see my options for changing the pickup out. There is a serious blemish in the side of the guitar as well near the neck like it got whacked really hard, compressing the wood after it got painted.Overall after setup I may use this for recording some down the line, but don't expect a perfect guitar. This is on par with the price if not a little expensive for what I got.
Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
This is a nice guitar that does what it was made to do. I can get some wonderful resonator sounds from it and it is a lot of fun to play. Intonation is very good all up the neck, which was one of my concerns. The pickups go through a blend knob. Some say you should separate them and add a switch to select, buy I find the stock arrangement just fine. The neck mini-bucker is OK. You can get some fine sounds from it, but it is just average. It does blend well with the reso pickup and sounds good for blues or some clean to mild OD. Neck pickup feeds back pretty early in a loud setting. If I gig'd with it I would replace the neck pup and that's it.Running the reso through an acoustic or super clean amp makes it really shine. Cheap solid state amps work pretty well too as they usually have pretty clean options in them.Great buy if you are looking for this kind of sound. Neck is good, tuners acceptable [stays in tune well] and bridge does its job. Have fun.
Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
The Jay Turser JT Res sounds great using a slide but I don't use a slide very much at all. The tones you get are amazing. The humbucker gets awesome jazz and blues tones. The piezo pickup at the bridge gives you a really nice acoustic guitar tone. I consider this to be a hybrid guitar. The neck of this guitar feels like a strat while the body has a hollow body feel. This guitar is also lightweight sounds more like a resonator when it is unplugged. But through an amp the tone range is across the board. The neck pickup sounds real nice with some light overdrive. The tone knob is a good feature and the blend knob mixes both pickups for some cool tones. If you need to go from acoustic to electric without changing guitars, get this thing.
Comments about Jay Turser JT-Res Electric Resonator Guitar:
I have owned one of these for about 5 years. I play mostly Gibson Firebirds so the pickup was perfect. The piezo is ok but the ablitly to blend the two rocks. For the money it's a good buy. It is meant to be played electrically. Acoustically it's not that loud. I give it 2 thumbs up!!!
