Good Tone and Feel

By Makle

from Santa Cruz, CA

Comments about Kremona Sofia Classical Acoustic Guitar:

I've owned the Sophia model for many years upgrading a Yamaha classical I bought in 1981 for my 30th Birthday. When I bought this guitar I did what I also did 29 years ago. I chose ten nylon stringed guitars from the store, played them all several times, then rejected all but my favorite three. Then I looked at the prices. Two of the guitars were between $400 to $1200 more. Then I asked myself "Do the other two guitars sound like they are worth the price increase?" The answer was no. I am truly happy with the sweet romantic tone, with full bass resonation and clear high string sounds that aren't overly brittle. It is light and may be desirable for smaller men or for women. This is not a beginner guitar. Remember classical guitar necks are a bit wider than steel stringed acoustics and electrics. This guitar is recommended for mid-level players and traveling professionals who would rather leave their high end recording classicals at home. Having said that, my Sophia is a staple in the line of guitars I use to record with and offer to my recording clients. I hope this helps you decide.

great classical for the money

By Brian Retz

from Indiana

Comments about Kremona Sofia Classical Acoustic Guitar:

Unless you're spending a lot more money, I think you need to take a hard look at this guitar. It combines good tone and easy playability.
The features are standard, no electronics or anything really fancy. The caramel tuning keys & wooden binding are nice touches. It has that deep but mellow bass you hear in the high-end classicals, which is always lacking in even some of the nicer Yamahas, Cordobas, etc.
It seems really well-made overall. I was hesitant to buy a guitar online, but I figured I would return it if it had any flaws. I looked really hard, played it a lot, & kept waiting for something bad to appear, but nothing ever did. It's definitely a keeper.
For this price, I doubt you can beat it.

Best Mahogany Classic Period

Comments about Kremona Sofia Classical Acoustic Guitar:

This company and its guitars are far and away the best possible instruments you can purchase regardless of price point. I love cedar top guitars and think mahogany is far under rated as a tone wood. This is my ideal guitar, the mahogany is right in the middle between rosewood and cypress, coupled with red cedar this guitar gives me that dry, warm, and clear sound that I love, it even gets a little dirty sometimes !! The best classical guitar for the money

Comments about Kremona Sofia Classical Acoustic Guitar:

I bought one of these a year ago before anyone had even heard of Kremona. The tone, volume and projection are incredible. These Kremonas are THE best values in all solid woods guitars, and rival those costing many times more. They're built solidly and look and feel as good as they sound. You cannot go wrong with a Kremona. Buy one before they're "discovered" and they start selling for what they're actually worth. They've been making fine musical instruments in the Kremona Valley of Bulgaria for more than a century.

what a beautiful guitar

By The Croodler

Comments about Kremona Sofia Classical Acoustic Guitar:

I'm a singer/songwriter, not a classical guitarist. I bought this, instead of a steel string, though, because of the projection and the great tone across the full range, from highs to lows. I don't use a pick; I tend to strum with the backs of my fingers and pull up on the return, using my left hand to add sevenths and diminished chords and occasionally hammer. I get the exact sound I want from this responsive all wood guitar. The truth is, it makes me sound like a better guitarist than I am. I haven't had the Sofia long, though. So my feelings about it might change; if so, I'll update this review. She feels so good though (and the cedar top smells beautiful), I don't anticipate my opinion changing. An all wood guitar, including the maple binding for $600!I'm extremely satisfied.

Great All Wood Guitar

By multitrac

from New Orleans

Comments about Kremona Sofia Classical Acoustic Guitar:

I was looking for an instrument to accompany my wife who plays the flute. I wanted an all wood acoustic guitar, one that was versatile enough to accommodate our range of classical to rock. This guitar more than fits the bill, with its deep warm sounding cedar top with a great bass and treble response. This is a very solid instrument, and I tried several brands costing much, much more, but this one is an incredible value for the price. If you're in the market for this type of guitar, you owe it to yourself to give this one a very serious look.

Sounded great, but it had some issues

Comments about Kremona Sofia Classical Acoustic Guitar:

I really loved the way that the guitar sounded and, despite a large number of mistakes on the part of MF as far as shipping went, the guitar arrived (finally) in one piece and sounding beautiful. However, after a few days, the soundboard appeared to be about as smooth as the ocean during a storm. It was horribly rippled directly below the bridge, which I considered to be inexcusable for a guitar that was less than a week old. Thankfully, MF fully refunded the guitar. I opted not to get another Kremona because of my experience with this guitar for, despite loving almost every aspect of it, I was unsure whether the blemishes were a result of my guitar in particular or the batch which it was part of. Overall, I would recommend buying this guitar, but only if you are both certain of your own good luck and willing to possibly exchange the guitar a few times in order to get a perfect example.
